M's put Jorge Polanco on paternity list, recall Leo Rivas
April 2 - The Seattle Mariners recalled infielder Leo Rivas from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday to take the roster spot of veteran infielder Jorge Polanco, who was placed on the paternity list.
Rivas, 27, made his major league debut last year with Seattle and amassed a .233 batting average with eight RBIs and three stolen bases in 43 games. He opened this season with two home runs and four RBIs in three games for Tacoma.
Polanco, 31, has enjoyed a quick start to the 2025 season as he carries four-game hitting streak into his paternity-list stay.
The switch hitter cracked a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth inning on Opening Day, and he owns a .400/.400/.600 slash line through 16 plate appearances as the Mariners' primary third baseman.
Miles Mastrobuoni started at third base and batted eighth for Seattle on Tuesday night against the visiting Detroit Tigers. Mastrobuoni entered the game 1-for-1 on the season, as he had a pinch single against the Athletics on Friday.

June 5 - Heston Kjerstad's two-run triple in the seventh inning proved decisive as the Baltimore Orioles rallied to defeat the host Seattle Mariners 3-2 Wednesday night. Star F Hilary Knight signs with expansion Seattle franchise
June 5 - The expansion Seattle franchise of the Professional Women's Hockey League signed legendary forward Hilary Knight to a one-year contract on Wednesday. Knight was left exposed in the expansion draft by the Boston Fleet. Seattle and fellow expansion franchise Vancouver were given a five-day window from June 4-8 to sign a maximum of five players prior to the June 9 zxdraft. Knight, a four-time U.S. Olympian who recently announced her intention to play in the 2026 Games in Milan, tied for the PWHL lead of 29 points (15 goals, 14 assists) in the recently concluded season. It was her second season with the Fleet. "Signing Hilary Knight was an absolute no-brainer -- she's the heartbeat of any team she joins," Seattle general manager Meghan Turner said in a news release. "Her proven leadership and drive, the way she elevates everyone around her, those are qualities you can't teach. WNBA team's coaching staff under investigation AGAIN amid star's shock trade demand three weeks into season
The WNBA has launched its second investigation into the Seattle Storm's coaching staff in the space of six months, according to reports. Back in November of last year, the Storm underwent a league investigation into accusations of harassment and bullying by their coaching staff, only for the results of that inquest to find that no violations were made. Shortly after Seattle was hit by a shock trade request from six-time All-Star point guard Jewell Loyd, who later revealed she had urged her agent to 'get me out' of the team by whatever means necessary. Loyd was subsequently offloaded to the Las Vegas Aces as part of a three-team trade in January. Now, according to women's basketball reporter Khristina Williams, the Storm's coaching staff is the subject of another investigation by the WNBA and league security just six months later. The full extent of what is being investigated is currently unclear. has reached out to the WNBA for more information, while the Seattle Storm declined to comment. Just before news of the investigation emerged, Williams also reported that Storm star Li Yueru has requested a trade from the team a mere three weeks into the 2025 season. 'Their expectations were unrealistic as to what her role with the Storm would be.'
