After what can only be described as a scorching UK summer, many gardens are looking worse for wear. While basking in endless sunshine and heatwaves might feel like a dream, our lawns often pay the price - turning dry, patchy, and lifeless.
If your grass has gone from lush green to brittle brown, you're not alone. Luckily, there's an easy fix: reseeding. Garden lovers hoping to revive their tired turf can turn to grass seed as a reliable, cost-effective solution. While local garden centres stock plenty of options, you don't even need to leave the house as many top-rated products are available on Amazon for speedy doorstep delivery.
One brand that's been gaining serious attention is GroundMaster. Their most popular product is the Premium Lawn Grass Seed, which is available in a variety of bag sizes, ranging from as small as 500grams to as large as 25kg sacks. Prices vary from £10 for the smallest bag to £124.99 for the largest option.
The grass seeds provide coverage up to 60 square metres per kg. They're also pet-friendly and can breathe new life into lawns in any season. So far, the product has garnered more than 5,000 customer reviews and ratings on Amazon, reports the Mirror.
One customer reported seeing results in '10 days', after adhering to the instructions on the pack. They added: "I also sprinkled a thin layer of fine soil over the top to hide the seed from the birds that would have eaten it all.
"I kept the seed watered - never letting it dry out, then about 10 days later the seed just burst into life. I've now got a nice green lawn. This is the second 5kg bag of this I've bought, and I'd buy it if I needed any more."
Meanwhile, B&Q stocks Verve Universal Grass seeds for £10 per 1.5kg box. The product boasts excellent reviews, with one customer commenting: "Bought before and renewed lawn resulting in thick, lush grass even in shady areas."
Specialist shade-resistant grass seed is also on offer, such as the Gro-Sure Shady Lawn Seed, priced at £9 from Wickes. Its blue coating deters birds whilst providing nourishment to the seed.
Another Amazon customer who tried GroundMaster's Premium Lawn Grass Seed reported 'fast-growing' results and a 'lovely, strong-looking grass'. They added: "Approximately three weeks after planting and watering the seeds well, the grass started to come through, and it's looking really good.
"It still needs to thicken up a bit, but I am pleased with its progress so far and would recommend this seed." Love dreamy Welsh homes? Sign up to our newsletter here
A third buyer experienced more modest results: "Had grown well in most areas, however, (there were) patches in other areas where it has struggled to grow. Not quite living up to expectations."
An additional purchaser commented: "Great value for money! I'm forever buying boxes of seed, especially in the spring, to bring the grass back to life after winter. I decided to go for a 5kg bag to help me, as the lawn was so patchy.

With the restaurant sector flourishing along Wind Street, many locals have expressed a desire for more diverse shopping destinations. ‌ The closure of big-name stores like Zara and The Body Shop, has further highlighted the need for new retail choices. Never miss a Swansea story by signing up to our newsletter here . ‌ The new store, located in Swansea Quadrant, will feature an immersive space showcasing Rituals' signature range of luxurious bath, body, and home products, all designed to encourage moments of mindfulness and self-care in daily life. It is believed that it will be located in the unit that previously housed The Body Shop. This opening also forms part of Rituals' wider UK expansion strategy. With existing stores in Cardiff and Bridgend, the new location will strengthen the brand's presence in Wales and extend access to its popular wellbeing-focused collections. News of the September opening of the store has already been met with a positive reactions from locals. One person commented, "Can't wait, love Rituals." Another added, "Can't wait, love their stuff." Article continues below A third said, "Never heard of this shop but by their online site it looks fairly decent - and a couple of notches up from what we usually get in Swansea!" Founded in Amsterdam in 2000, Rituals now operates in over 33 countries, with more than 1,300 stores worldwide. As a Certified B Corporation, the brand is committed to improving its social and environmental impact, with a focus on using natural origin ingredients and recyclable or refillable packaging. ‌ As well as the new Rituals store, it was confirmed earlier this year that two retailers and a leisure operator will open at Swansea's former Debenhams store, also located in Quadrant, next year. Council leader Rob Stewart said: "We know how important the former Debenhams building is for local people and city centre businesses. "That's why we've been working tirelessly to attract retail and leisure tenants and reach a stage where refurbishment work can take place to prepare the building for occupation once again." Article continues below The former Debenhams anchor store closed in 2021 when the company went into administration. The council bought it, backed by £2.85 million of Welsh Government funding. The purchase price was £3.15 million, with a further sum of just over £100,000 spent on professional fees and roof repairs. It is hoped that Rituals, and the new businesses setting up at the former Debenhams building, will breathe new life into the Swansea shopping centre.
