Yahoo24-04-2025
Pantomime favourites Josh Benson and Jamie Jones are set to return to the Darlington Hippodrome for a third pantomime season - joining the circus as Joey the Clown and Dame Betty Barnum in a production of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
The pair will be joined on stage by Brendan Cole.
The former Strictly Come Dancing professional, who appeared on every season of that show from 2004 through to 2017, will be taking on the role of the evil ringmaster, Baron Von Bolshoi.
Mr Benson has performed at venues including Leeds City Varieties Music Hall, London's Charing Cross Theatre, and the Phoenix Arts Club.
He is also a regular at the Brick Lane Music Hall and previously appeared as the pantomime comic at Chesterfield's Pomegranate Theatre, York Theatre Royal, and Halifax's Victoria Theatre.
He said: "I can't wait to be back with my 'panto gang' at the Hippodrome for a hat-trick season.
"Darlington audiences are so much fun to perform for… and I'm so excited to be bringing them some more daft antics this Christmas."
Mr Jones graduated from Staffordshire University with a first-class honours degree in musical theatre, and is also a writer and director for various production companies across the UK.
He said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be returning to the beautiful Darlington Hippodrome this Christmas as Dame Betty Barnum in Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
"Expect fabulous costumes, sumptuous scenery, and laugh out loud comedy.
"This year's show promises to be one of Darlington's biggest yet, so come and join us in the Big Top for some festive panto magic."

‘Scream 7' star Jasmin Savoy Brown reacts to Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera exits: ‘Stressful'

One of the Core Four in the 'Scream' franchise has addressed Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera's shocking exits. In the book 'Your Favorite Scary Movie: How the Scream Films Rewrote the Rules of Horror,' released Tuesday, August 19, author Ashley Collins of the Ankler unpacks how the 'Scream 7' cast picked up the pieces after its two leading ladies departed the slasher. In 2022's 'Scream' and 2023's 'Scream VI,' the Core Four consisted of Ghostface surviving sisters Tara (Ortega) and Sam Carpenter (Barrera) and twins Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding). Advertisement Barrera, 35, was fired from the thriller in November 2023 after sharing what the movie's production company, Spyglass, deemed as antisemitic posts about the Israel-Hamas War. The actress maintains she is not antisemitic. It was soon revealed that Ortega had dropped out of the film, reportedly due to scheduling issues with Season 2 of 'Wednesday.' 13 The Core Four Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding in 'Scream VI.' ©Paramount/Courtesy Everett Collection 13 Jenna Ortega in a scene from 2022's 'Scream.' If Scream 7 wasn't going to be with that team of directors and those people I fell in love with, then it didn't seem like the right move for me in my career at the time,' Ortega stated. Brown reflected on moving forward without half of the Core Four for 'Scream 7.' Philippe Bossé 'It's been really sad and stressful,' she said in the book. The 'Yellowjackets' star, 31, also seemingly criticized the reason behind Barrera's departure. 'Often, actors are expected to know as much about politics as politicians. And, in today's day and age, when everything is online, everyone thinks they're an expert in everything, which isn't the case,' Brown shared. 'I also think there is a clear difference between talking politics and standing up for people who don't have a voice. It's not politics, it's human life.' 13 Melissa Barrera (Sam Carpenter), left, and Jenna Ortega (Tara Carpenter) in 'Scream VI.' Advertisement 'I can't imagine making this movie without Melissa and Jenna,' she continued. 'It won't be the same. On the flip side, I do care about this character so much, and I care so much about the people that care about her. I hope that someday — even if it's 20 years from now — the Core Four gets back together on screen.' Several directors, including Tyler Gillett, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Christopher Landon, pulled out of the horror flick. '1923' actress Isabel May stars as Sidney's daughter, and Joel McHale plays Sidney's husband, Mark Evans. The thriller also features Mckenna Grace, Celeste O'Connor, Asa Germann, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp and Mark Consuelos. 13 2022's 'Scream' movie poster, top, from left: Courteney Cox, David Arquette, bottom, from left: Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jasmin Savoy Brown (top), Marley Shelton, Jack Quaid, Neve Campbell, Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, Sonia Ammar. Courteney Cox will reprise her role as news reporter Gale Weathers and vets whose characters were killed by Ghostface are also making appearances, including David Arquette, Scott Foley, and Matthew Lillard. According to Williamson, the latest installment is 'a standalone,' with the director telling the book author, 'but it'll probably feel more like the original Screams than any of them, which is what I love about it.' 'Scream 7' is scheduled to be released on February 27, 2026.

Which Strictly couples are still together? Inside the BBC show's greatest love stories

Strictly couples who have gone the distance, with some couples even getting married and having babies Molly Rainford and Tyler West got engaged three years after meeting on the BBC show but who are Strictly's other success stories? There is always talk of the Strictly curse, where some celebrity contestants and their professional dance partners fall in love while their relationships in the outside world fall apart. But what about Strictly's greatest love stories? While professional dancer Aljaz Škorjanec and former pro Janette Manrara didn't meet on the show, much of their love story has played out while they have shared the Strictly dancefloor together. Manrara now hosts the spin-off show and juggles looking after their daughter while Škorjanec returned to his job as a professional dancer on the BBC show. Among the Strictly couples still together, Ex-EastEnders actor Jimi Mistry and professional dancer Flavia Cacace have the longest love story. Molly Rainford and Tyler West Everyone is talking about Rainford and West after they got engaged. They first met for the first time in 2022 when they were competing against each other on Strictly. It seems to be a big year for the couple as they are reported to have signed up to Celebrity Race Across the World together. Before getting engaged, they had settled into life together as they moved in with each other last year. Jimi Mistry and Flavia Cacace More than 15 years have flown by since Cacace and Mistry first fell in love after being partnered on Strictly in 2010. A lot has happened in the years that have followed Strictly, including Cacace leaving Strictly in 2012, the couple getting married in 2013 and then quitting the showbiz world for good in 2020. After the Covid pandemic, they moved to the country where they now have a seven-acre smallholding in Devon. They host holiday cottages and have a micro-bakery. "We haven't looked back once," Mistry told HELLO! in 2021 of their new adventure. "The ambience, the feeling, the energy that has been created here has made us feel so much calmer and better about life." "We feel calm and stress-free and our old life feels alien," Cacace added. "We did it for years, but it's amazing when you come out of it and realise you can finally breathe." Rachel Riley and Pasha Kovalev Rachel Riley and dancer Pasha Kovalev have gone the distance after they first met on the set of Strictly in 2013. Their romance blossomed out of the Strictly curse. Weeks after the former Countdown host was eliminated from the BBC show, she ended her 16-month marriage to her university sweetheart James Gilbert. Riley and Kovalev got together later and went public with their love story in 2014. They got married in secret in Las Vegas in 2019, the same year that Kovalev left Strictly. The couple raise their two daughters, Maven and Noa, together. Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez Strictly's Gorka Marquez and Gemma Atkinson weren't partnered together on Strictly in 2017 but that didn't stop sparks from flying. Atkinson was partnered on the show with Aljaž Škorjanec while Marquez was teaching Alexandra Burke how to dance. Away from the dancefloor, their love story flourished. The couple — who raise their children Mia and Thiago — got engaged on Valentine's Day in 2021 but they have since delayed their wedding. It has been reported their family reality series Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind The Lens has been axed. This year Marquez won't have a dance partner on Strictly because an of a scheduling clash with his job as a judge on the Spanish version of the show. Joe Sugg and Dianne Buswell Strictly's 2024 winner Dianne Buswell and YouTuber Joe Sugg waltzed their way into love in the 2018 series. The pair had made the final of the BBC show but found they won something more important than the Glitter Ball — each other's affections. Sugg is Buswell's biggest supporter when she is dancing on Strictly. Away from the TV cameras, the couple live together in Brighton and they have plans to start a family one day. She told Prima magazine in 2025: "When Joe and I met, it wasn't until the show ended that we realised we missed each other's company a lot — our relationship went from there. "We've always wanted kids, it's just finding the right time. I don't feel worried about taking time out from dancing, I just don't see the point in worrying. When everything aligns, it will happen. I have a vision." Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton Kevin Clifton and Stacey Dooley also danced in the same series. Not only did Clifton and Dooley lift the Glitter Ball trophy but they found long-lasting love with each other. Their romance didn't blossom until after the show had wrapped. Documentary maker Dooley was dating personal trainer Sam Tucknott until three months after Strictly. In 2019, Clifton and Dooley went public with their romance. They became parents for the first time in 2023 when Dooley welcomed their daughter Minnie into the world. Max George and Maisie Smith Ex-Eastenders actor Maisie Smith and The Wanted star Max George were competing on Strictly in 2020 but they immediately hit it off. They didn't start dating until two years later in 2022. The lovebirds have a 13-year age gap but they have marked huge milestones as a couple including working and living together in Manchester. While they have no plans for marriage yet, Smith has been a huge support to George after he had a heart operation before Christmas in 2024.

What we know about Strictly 'cocaine' scandal as police investigate

The Met Police and the BBC are investigating after two of the show's stars were accused of taking the class-A drug The Met Police is investigating allegations of drug use on Strictly Come Dancing. It was "widely known" that two stars of the BBC show allegedly took the class A substance, The Sun on Sunday reported. The Met has now said it had "received an allegation about drug-related offences". In a statement, it added: "Police are assessing the information and further enquiries are taking place to establish whether there is evidence of a criminal offence being committed." The drug-taking allegations first emerged in a legal submission to the BBC from law firm Russells on behalf of former celebrity contestant Wynne Evans, according to the newspaper. Evans's own time with Strictly wasn't without controversy; he was forced to quit the tour after he made an "inappropriate and unacceptable" comment during its launch, and consequently, BBC Radio Wales didn't renew his contract. Who are the Strictly stars accused of drug taking? The Sun on Sunday reported that there were two Strictly stars accused of drug taking. Those two stars in question have not been named by the newspaper. It was reported that the two stars will be offered professional support behind the scenes. BBC offered no comment on this. What has the BBC said? BBC News reported that the broadcaster is understood to have enlisted the help of a law firm to support the investigation into the allegations of drug taking. External law firms report back to internal teams in cases like this, Yahoo UK understands. The investigation is being led by the BBC, not the law firm. A BBC spokesperson said: "We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us. We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns. It would not be appropriate for us to comment further." The Sun reported the possibility of random drug tests being implemented into the Strictly tour. However, Yahoo UK understands that there are no plans to introduce further measures at this time. Changes to Strictly Come Dancing BBC made a number of changes to Strictly Come Dancing's welfare last July, behind the scenes. Chaperones now attend every rehearsal room, and there were two new welfare producers appointed as part of the new measures. Additional training is now provided for the dancers, production team and crew. New measures were put in place after allegations were made about some of the professional dancers. Strictly's pro dancers Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima left the show in the wake of allegations about their behaviour toward their dance partners Amanda Abbington and Zara McDermott. Former dance partner Abbington made allegations of bullying and harassment claims against Pernice, who had denied the claims; some of the complaints were upheld, but not all of them. Strictly Come Dancing will return in the autumn with two new professional dancers and celebrities taking part in the show. Yahoo UK has reached out to the BBC and Wynne Evans' representatives for further comment. Solve the daily Crossword
