Yahoo24-04-2025

Pantomime favourites Josh Benson and Jamie Jones are set to return to the Darlington Hippodrome for a third pantomime season - joining the circus as Joey the Clown and Dame Betty Barnum in a production of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
The pair will be joined on stage by Brendan Cole.
The former Strictly Come Dancing professional, who appeared on every season of that show from 2004 through to 2017, will be taking on the role of the evil ringmaster, Baron Von Bolshoi.
Mr Benson has performed at venues including Leeds City Varieties Music Hall, London's Charing Cross Theatre, and the Phoenix Arts Club.
He is also a regular at the Brick Lane Music Hall and previously appeared as the pantomime comic at Chesterfield's Pomegranate Theatre, York Theatre Royal, and Halifax's Victoria Theatre.
He said: "I can't wait to be back with my 'panto gang' at the Hippodrome for a hat-trick season.
"Darlington audiences are so much fun to perform for… and I'm so excited to be bringing them some more daft antics this Christmas."
Mr Jones graduated from Staffordshire University with a first-class honours degree in musical theatre, and is also a writer and director for various production companies across the UK.
He said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be returning to the beautiful Darlington Hippodrome this Christmas as Dame Betty Barnum in Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
"Expect fabulous costumes, sumptuous scenery, and laugh out loud comedy.
"This year's show promises to be one of Darlington's biggest yet, so come and join us in the Big Top for some festive panto magic."

Candace Cameron Bure says horror films can lead to ‘portal' that's ‘demonic': Not in my home!

Candace Cameron Bure isn't a fan of horror. The 'Full House' alum, 49, who is outspoken about her Christian faith, opened up about why she won't allow her family to watch scary movies at home. 'In our house as a mom, I feel like you guys make fun of me when I talk about — they make fun of me all the time — but particularly when I'm serious about a spiritual thing happening, and then they're rolling their eyes at me. Like the portal,' Bure said on an episode of 'The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast' published on Tuesday, June 10, with her son, Lev, and pastor Jonathan Pokluda as guests. 10 Candace Cameron Bure shared her thoughts on horror films during a recent podcast episode. The Great American Family chief creative officer shares children Natasha, Lev and Maksim with her husband, Valeri Bure, and said that her loved ones 'laugh at me because of the portal. I'm like, 'You're opening up a portal.'' 'Like if you're watching this, or you're playing this video game, or whatever, that's a portal that could let stuff inside our home,' she explained. 'I don't even want someone watching a scary movie in our house on the TV, because to me, that's just a portal.' Bure laughed off her criticism, noting the irony since she's an actress and understands how movies are made. Still, she believes even making horror films is a slippery slope. 'Listen, I'm in the film industry,' she said. 'I understand how it all works. I know that movie has a crew of 200 people, and they're lighting it, and they're adding the sound effects, and it's makeup, and the camera, people and actors; however, there's still something that can be incredibly demonic while they've made it.' Scary movies aren't the only things that Bure is cautious of. 10 The 'Full House' alum said there's something 'demonic' about scary flicks. 10 Her pastor and son Lev, 25, appeared on the podcast episode with her. 10 The 'Scream' franchise is a big no in Candace Cameron Bure's home. Paramount/Courtesy Everett The 'Fuller House' star also dragged the water brand Liquid Death into the conversation. 'That just reminded me like you posted something a while back about Liquid Death,' she recalled to Pokluda. 'You're like, 'Do you want to buy a product that is literally being cursed as it's going out into distribution?'' Despite Bure's views on horror, she's made a career out of starring in several murder mysteries like her TV movie franchises 'Ainsley McGregor Mysteries' and 'Aurora Teagarden Mysteries,' which follow her characters investigating killings. 10 She addressed the irony, adding she's an actress and understands how movies are made. Everett Collection 10 Still, Candace Cameron Bure believes you are 'opening up a portal' by turning on horror flicks. 10 She admitted that her three children and husband 'laugh at me' for her view on scary movies. Candace Cameron Bure/Instagram Last year, Bure shared that she won't let her husband, whom she married in 1996, watch any of her kissing scenes. 'I don't think it's as comfortable for anybody – maybe if you're an actor married to another actor – it's just never comfortable to watch your spouse in the arms of someone, even though it's a peck or a kiss or anything,' she said in a December 2024 interview with Danica McKellar, with both actresses confirming they 'fast-forward' or go to a commercial when the intimate scenes come on. Bure insisted that her significant other is 'supportive' despite being uncomfortable. 10 Candace Cameron Bure/Instagram 10 She also mentioned the water brand Liquid Death, recalling her pastor asking, 'Do you want to buy a product that is literally being cursed as it's going out into distribution?' Candace Cameron Bure/Instagram 10 Candace Cameron Bure also doesn't want her husband watching any of her kissing scenes. candacecbure/Instagram 'We have those honest conversations. He's like, 'I don't really want to watch that part' and 'I don't want to put you through that.' But … we kind of worked through those feelings to a place where we both feel good and supported through it,' she shared. Bure has never been one to shy away from sharing her views. In April, she made headlines for applauding those in Hollywood who are outspoken about their faith, adding they are no longer worried about cancel culture. 'I feel like people are just a little less afraid of being canceled now that they can share their faith openly or whatever their opinions are [even] if they're not congruent with some other people's opinions,' she told Fox News Digital at the Movieguide Awards. 'And, so, I love seeing this in our country, and I'm hopeful. I'm very hopeful.'

Emmerdale star reveals character was almost 'written out' of ITV soap

An Emmerdale star has opened up on the death of her mother and her 'best friend' saying she 'learned a lot about grief' in the process. Lisa Riley, known for playing Mandy Dingle on the ITV soap, lost her mother in July 2012. The tragedy was just months before she joined BBC dancing show Strictly Come Dancing, where she was paired up with Robin Windsor. Riley credits Windsor for helping her get through the grief and has now opened up on her mother and Windsor's deaths. Really excited to be going on @GMB this coming Thursday 12th June. Launching something very dear to my heart with @Sue_Ryder and discussing what's coming up for Mandy & Paddy in @emmerdale 💛💛💛 #gmb #goodmorning #goodmorningbritain #sueryder #charity #emmerdale #london 💙💙💙 — LISA RILEY (BLUE TICK) (@Reallisariley) June 10, 2025 Robin Windsor died in February last year at the age of 44. The Latin and ballroom dancer was best known for appearing on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing. His cause of death was not given. Riley has now opened up on coping with the deaths of Windsor and her mother on ITV's Good Morning Britain. She said: 'I've learned a lot about grief and how to deal with it, and how to be open and to literally ask for help, because it's okay. 'Sometimes people go really within, my brother's that person, we all deal with things differently, and I was pressing the bravado button going, 'I've got to go out and play Mandy Dingle every day, I've got to dress up as Mandy and be funny'. 'There were some days I didn't want to be funny, I'm lucky with the brilliant girls in my dressing room, where we lean on each other, and my work with Sue Ryder, I've realised that there is a helpline out there. 'The internet is brilliant, there are so many places you can go to, Sue Ryder being one of them for help.' She also praised the Emmerdale team for their support, calling them 'phenomenal' after they offered to write out her character to give her time off. Riley added that she wanted to continue working, saying she 'knows it's what Robin would have wanted'. The actress said: 'Me, being me, I didn't want to be at home in my bedroom, or at home thinking about it too much, I had to carry on with my day job. 'But the make-up girls, what people at home won't know when they're watching Emmerdale is I was having my make-up done three times because I couldn't get it together, I couldn't, day in, day out, and work were brilliant, like we know, we'll write you out, we'll give you time off should you need it. Fans have taken to social media to send support to Riley after opening up about her grief. She posted an Instagram reel in support of the Sue Ryder Charity, saying: "You are never ever ever alone with @surerydercharity. Please go to the webpage if you are struggling - there will be someone to listen." One fan replied: "Sending hugs Lisa, how brave you are for sharing your story, your Mum sounds like a wonderful woman." A second added: "This made me cry, bless ur heart, Lisa, your mum would be so proud of the lovely woman you are. Lots of love." A number of characters have left the popular ITV soap this year. Emmerdale legend Lesley Dunlop, who plays Brenda Walker, has left after 16 years. BBC Slams David Walliams' 'Unacceptable' Nazi Salute During Comedy Recording

David Walliams has been condemned by the BBC after he allegedly performed a Nazi salute during the recording of hit comedy panel show Would I Lie To You?. The BBC said the gesture was 'completely unacceptable' and apologized to audience members if they were offended by the incident during the filming of a Christmas special. Walliams' rep has been contacted for comment. More from Deadline 'Doctor Who' Animated Series Heading To BBC 'Strictly Come Dancing' Contestant Suspended By BBC After Using Offensive "Disability-Related" Language On Set 'Bake Off' Champion Presenter Nadiya Hussain Announces On Social Media The BBC Have Axed Cookery Series The Times of London, which first reported the story, said Walliams raised his arm to perform the salute as Call The Midwife actress Helen George attempted to convince panelists that she sustained a wrist sprain 'from waving too much' during a Strictly Come Dancing tour. Sebastian Topan, a Times Radio producer who was in the audience, said Little Britain star Walliams twice made the gesture during the recording at Pinewood. 'Some other panellist was talking when David Walliams started doing the Nazi salute,' Topan told BBC News. 'I was shocked at what I had seen.' He added that host Rob Brydon 'wanted to get past it as quickly as he could,' and Walliams' gesture did not amuse other Would I Lie To You? players. 'It was like an elephant in the room after that as the incident was early on in the recording and so the remainder of the show felt weird,' Topan added. A spokesperson for Banijay UK, which owns Would I Lie To You? producer Zeppotron, said the footage would be cut from the final show. 'Any attempt at humour regarding this deeply offensive gesture, whether broadcast or not, is completely unacceptable in any context,' the spokesperson said. 'It was immediately acknowledged during the recording that this segment would not be broadcast under any circumstances and we apologise to those who were at the recording for any offence caused.' The BBC said: 'The use of such an offensive gesture is completely unacceptable and we apologise to all at the recording for the offence caused.' Walliams was a Britain's Got Talent judge for a decade, but a 2022 Guardian newspaper investigation revealed that he made disrespectful comments about two contestants. He later sued and settled with producer Fremantle over the transcript leak to the Guardian. Best of Deadline 'Stick' Release Guide: When Do New Episodes Come Out?
