Ed Gale has died aged 61.
The actor – best known for portraying murderous doll Chucky in the 'Child's Play' horror franchise, passed away suddenly while under investigation for alleged attempts to solicit sex from minors, it emerged on Wednesday. (28.05.25.)
His family said in a statement: 'It is with a heavy heart and a surprisingly light coffin (see what I did there?) that we announce the sudden passing of our uncle.
'Ed Gale has taken his final bow and is now headlining in the afterlife.'
Authorities in Los Angeles had launched an inquiry into scandalous claims against the actor, with the Los Angeles Times reporting Ed had admitted to engaging in sexually explicit conversations with someone he believed to be a teenage boy and had attempted to arrange a meeting.
Born in Michigan, Ed suffered from dwarfism, standing at just 3ft 4in.
He left his hometown at the age of 20, travelling to California with $41 and the goal of becoming an actor.
His family added in their tribute: 'Ed hitched a ride to California when he was twenty years old, with $41 and a dream, and he never looked back.
'He lit up the silver screens in cult classic films like 'Howard the Duck' and 'Chopper Chicks in Zombietown', earning himself some serious street cred at every con he attended. Which he never stopped bragging about. Ever.'
Ed's breakout role came in 1986 when he played the titular character in the cult film 'Howard the Duck'.
Two years later, he was cast as the physical performer for Chucky in the 1988 film 'Child's Play', a role he reprised in sequels over the next decade.
He became known for his work across more than 130 film, television and commercial credits, often appearing in science fiction and horror genres.
In addition to 'Child's Play', Ed gained a loyal following for his performances in films such as 'Chopper Chicks in Zombietown', and his presence at fan conventions became a regular part of his public life.
Before his death, the Los Angeles Times reported police had launched an investigation following allegations the actor had communicated sexually with people he believed to be underage.
The report stated Ed had admitted to the accusations during questioning.
No further details have been released regarding the circumstances of his death.

'You want to stop at the peak': Michael Chaves understands why The Conjuring franchise is ending

Michael Chaves feels it is the right decision to end The Conjuring franchise. The 40-year-old director returns to helm the concluding movie The Conjuring: Last Rites and explained that there was a "shared sense" from film chiefs that it is the correct time to bow out. Michael told SFX magazine: "I love working with everyone involved but there was a shares sense that it was time to end on a high. You want to stop at the peak. You don't want to be the one who runs a franchise into the ground. This was a rare opportunity to choose when and how to tell that final chapter." The director admits that he felt pressure to give a perfect ending for ghost hunters Ed and Lorraine Warren, who are played in the film by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga respectively. The Curse of La Llorona helmer said: "I speak as someone who really loves the series and is fortunate enough to be a part of it, but especially as someone who completely fell in love with the first film. "I really wanted to bring back that big Conjuring experience: that back-to-basics haunted house movie. To go out in that style." The Conjuring: Last Rites was filmed in England, even though it is based on a haunting in Pennsylvania, and Chaves enjoyed working in the country for the first time. He said: "England's got the best people. They're the hardest-working people. "But in all seriousness, it was my first time working in England, and I had an incredible time. The crew was absolutely amazing – we lucked into some of the most amazing people. And the actors. This is one of the best casts I've had." Chaves has suggested that the movie will be darker than previous films in The Conjuring Universe. He said: "This one is really scary. "You need those high stakes, those really dark moments to give you that sense of conclusion. You need to know that what they're going up against is... "We're going to be brutal. This is no-holds-barred. Going into it knowing that this is the last chapter allows us to be that ruthless. Even the first scene – it's going to take people off-guard. It really is a terrifying sequence and a real gut punch." Chaves added: "We have a great conclusion to Ed and Lorraine's story. I'm so excited for people to see it." The filmmaker is convinced that both Wilson and Farmiga have a sense of nostalgia for the franchise and has become used to the pair's idiosyncrasies in their portrayals of Ed and Lorraine. He said of the pair: "They love it. They feel so comfortable in it. It's kind of like coming back to your childhood house. "They've made so many specific dialect decisions for Ed and Lorraine – little things in the way that they talk, the way that they phrase certain words. It's a holistic approach in how they tackle it."

Ed Sheeran enlists Rupert Grint for another music video

Ed Sheeran has reunited with Rupert Grint for an "utterly bonkers" new music video. The 34-year-old singer previously enlisted the Harry Potter star to appear in the promo for his 2011 single Lego House and he's revealed they have made a sequel to accompany his new single A Little More. In the Lego House video, Rupert played Ed's lookalike and stalker, who is arrested after breaking into the singer's tour bus and attempting to impersonate him on stage. A teaser for A Little More seemingly sees him reprise the role, though it picks up from the stalker being released from prison. Ed shared a clip for the video - which will be released in full on Thursday (07.08.25) - on Instagram and wrote: '14 years later me and @rupertgrint are reunited. I had this wild idea after writing the song, and thankfully rupert was up for it. It's an utterly bonkers video for a very upbeat, fun, but angry song. Think this one is gonna be a lot of people's fav song from Play. Out Thursday, watch out for more stuff coming x.(sic)" Rupert has previously claimed he often gets mistaken for his fellow redhead. Speaking in 2017, he said: "It's kind of 50/50 now. It's like if someone stops me, it could go either way. I could be Ed or I could be me." The same year, the 36-year-old actor released a spoof video in which he claimed the Galway Girl hitmaker is really his alter ego. In the clip, Rupert readied himself to sing before breaking off to admit: "The truth is, Ed isn't real!" Rupert then ripped open his blue plaid shirt - which has become synonymous with the real-life Ed - to reveal a Gryffindor top from the Harry Potter series. The flame-haired star explained: "My name is Rupert Grint. After Potter all I wanted to do was stretch myself ... create some real magic. "So I created a character. He had the voice of an angel ... and possible wispy facial hair, a guitar, a bunch of flannel. I call him Ed. Ed Sheeran. Such a weird name, right?" Rupert's on-stage antics are met with screams of denial from the watching audience. But the actor continued: "I didn't expect everyone to think he was real. He became my best achievement and bane of my existence." Then, the show's host asks Rupert: "Was anything real? The adorable klutziness, cat photos?" And the British actor responds: "I hate cats! I can't balance it anymore. Ed is no more!"

Travis and Jason Kelce's dad Ed's girlfriend, Maureen Maguire, dead at 74

Ed Kelce's girlfriend, Maureen Maguire, has died. She was 74. According to an obituary the father of NFL stars Travis and Jason Kelce shared on his Facebook page Saturday, Maguire 'passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.' 'Maureen found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved the beach—especially the shore—and had a deep affection for dogs,' the obituary read. Maguire also 'grew an unexpected love for football later in life, sharing many laughs and adventures with her beloved friend Ed Kelce and her loyal dog Butch.' 'Together, they traveled often and attended football games and concerts, and embraced every opportunity to enjoy life to the fullest,' the obit added. 'She had a rare gift for making friends with strangers and making everyone around her feel special, seen, and welcomed. Her presence had a way of turning ordinary moments into something memorable. Her kindness, wit, and gentle strength left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.' Maguire is survived by her three children, six grandchildren and her sister and brother. Her cause of death was not disclosed. Maguire's private burial will take place at St. John Vianney Church in Gladwyne, Penn., on Aug. 7. Page Six has reached out to reps for both Jason and Travis for comment but did not immediately hear back. By clicking above you agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. Though not much is known about Ed's relationship with Maguire, in February 2024, the dad of two shared a funny interaction she had with Travis' girlfriend, Taylor Swift. While the 'Bad Blood' singer, 35, was posing for a picture with Ed, Maguire joked, 'Hey, that's my boyfriend,' to which Swift laughed. Ed, also 74, and his ex-wife, Donna Kelce, tied the knot in the late '70s. They welcomed sons Jason, 37, and Travis, also 35, in 1987 and 1989, respectively. They were married for nearly 25 years before deciding to end things after both of their sons graduated from college. Last October, Donna, 72, said she and Ed maintained a 'friendly relationship' until their split for the sake of their boys. 'We could do that and make sure that their life was normal as possible,' the retired banker explained in Glamour's 2024 Women of the Year: The Moms issue. 'But in that one respect, I did stand still for several years until I could move on on my own.' Originally published as Travis and Jason Kelce's dad Ed's girlfriend, Maureen Maguire, dead at 74
