'Andhra Pradesh to be a Green Hydrogen Valley' – Declared Honourable CM Sri Chandrababu Naidu at the Green Hydrogen Summit 2025, SRM AP
In his inaugural address, the Honourable CM Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu termed the Green Hydrogen Summit, a historical forum that brought together global experts and industries in Andhra Pradesh to work towards affordable, cost-effective clean energy. He stated that with the Andhra Pradesh Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia Policy, with a Rs 10,00,000 crore investment, offering 7.5 lakh jobs in green hydrogen and its derivatives, and ideological balance, no other state has stronger prospects in working towards green hydrogen development and storage. He also declared Amaravati as Green Hydrogen Valley, which will focus on affordable, cost-effective clean energy. He said, 'This landmark summit marks a significant step towards protecting nature, a circular economy, and sustainability.' Guest of Honour, Dr V K Saraswat, Honourable Member, NITI Aayog commented on the significance of opting for cleaner fuels and energy resources. He said, 'Green Hydrogen, which is at the heart of the National Hydrogen Mission, is a step towards achieving a sustainable, carbon-neutral future.' Prof. D Narayana Rao, Executive Director-Research, SRM Group of Institutions, in his brief about the Summit stated, 'Today the world looks at India with admiration as we contribute to solving global issues plaguing humankind, such as clean energy, water remediation, clean environment, and sustainable growth.' He outlined the various initiatives by the ministries of the state - Road Transport and Highways, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Steel – have already taken up green hydrogen projects that align with their sector. He also said SRM University-AP will establish an Innovation centre for Green Hydrogen Technologies.
With a vision to develop Andhra Pradesh as a hydrogen hub, Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Govt. of India, remarked that right investments and government policies can drive green hydrogen plants to produce clean energy that is scalable and profitable. The Chief Secretary of the State, Sri K Vijayanand IAS, also remarked that the development and utilisation of hydrogen technologies necessitate specific expertise and skill development. The top universities of the nation, such as SRM AP, with advanced research infrastructure and intellect, can innovate and solve the pressing demands for cleaner energy fuel.
Mr Pranav Tanti, CEO and President of Synergen Green Energy also said that Andhra Pradesh is a highly favourable state to establish an industry for Green Hydrogen.
Aiming to nurture innovation and skill development in the clean energy space, Dr P Sathyanarayanan, Pro-Chancellor of SRM AP, announced the Department of Energy Engineering launch at the SRM Institute of Emerging Technology. 'If our generation is the last to use fossil fuels, the next generation must lead the clean energy revolution. With their ideas, innovation, and courage, the youth will carry this transformation forward,' Commented Dr P Sathyanarayanan.
The Green Hydrogen Summit 2025, jointly organised by SRM University-AP, Government of Andhra Pradesh, IIT Tirupati, IISER Tirupati, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India, New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd. and the SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Tamil Nadu, explores the research and development, innovation, commercialisation of green hydrogen. Keynote addresses, plenary sessions and conclaves with industry stalwarts, research organisations, and policymakers aim to open new frontiers in the green hydrogen sector.

NEW DELHI: India and Russia doubled down on their time-tested relationship on Friday against the backdrop of a US punitive tariff on New Delhi for buying Russian oil, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin pledging to deepen their strategic partnership. 'Had a very good and detailed conversation with my friend President Putin. I thanked him for sharing the latest developments on Ukraine,' Modi said in a post on X after the conversation. 'We also reviewed the progress in our bilateral agenda, and reaffirmed our commitment to further deepen the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership,' he said. Modi said he looked forward to hosting Putin in India later this year. The phone conversation took place a day after National Security Adviser Ajit Doval met with Putin and other senior Russian officials in Moscow, with both sides reiterating their commitment to the bilateral strategic partnership. Doval said the strategic and privileged partnership has a 'very special role' amid an environment of unpredictability and uncertainties. Doval's Russian counterpart, Sergey Shoigu, said Russia wants to cooperate with India to ensure a 'more just' world order and 'jointly combat modern challenges and threats'. On Wednesday, Trump signed an executive order imposing a 25% tariff on India for the continuing purchases of Russian oil. The penalty came on top of another 25% tariff that took effect on Thursday. Trump has railed against India and Russia over the past few days for the trade and energy relations between the two countries and pressured New Delhi to cut its Russian oil purchases. Russia accounts for nearly 60% of India's armed forces' inventory and has become one of the largest suppliers of energy to India, providing 35% of its needs in the first half of 2025. India has defended its energy purchases from Russia and criticised the US and the European Union for singling out New Delhi at a time when other countries buying Russian energy haven't faced penalties from the Trump administration. An Indian readout on the phone conversation said Putin briefed Modi on the latest developments concerning Ukraine. Modi thanked Putin for the detailed assessment and reiterated India's consistent position for the peaceful resolution of the conflict. Modi invited Putin to India later this year for the 23rd India-Russia Summit. Doval had said on Thursday that dates for the visit 'are almost finalised'. Modi said on Thursday that India would not compromise with the interests of farmers and was ready to pay any price in this context, remarks perceived as a response to Trump's decision to impose an effective tariff rate of 50% on Indian exports. 'The interests of our farmers are our topmost priority. India will never compromise the interests of its farmers, its cattle rearers and fisherfolk,' Modi said. 'I know I'll have to pay a big price for this personally, but I'm prepared. India today is prepared to protect its farming community at any cost.' The government has also responded to Trump's move by calling it 'unfair, unjustified and unreasonable' and vowed to protect national interests amid the widening fallout with the US. At the same time, people familiar with developments in New Delhi and Washington said that both sides were also focused on retaining the gains made through cooperation in strategic sectors over the past two decades. One of the people sought to draw a distinction between the overall India-US relations and the fallout of Trump's policies, and said: 'Both India and the US have invested a lot in this relationship and wouldn't want to see the gains evaporating.'

Google's antitrust suit: SC admits cross appeals
The Supreme Court on Friday admitted a batch of cross-appeals by Google Inc., its related companies, the Competition Commission of India (CCI), and the Alliance Digital India Foundation against a National Company Law Appellate Tribunal's (NCLAT) March order that partially upheld the antitrust regulator's findings that Google abused its dominant position in its Play Store policy.A bench comprising Justice PS Narasimha and Justice Atul S Chandurkar said it will hear the case in Inc and its related companies—Alphabet Inc, Google Ireland, Google India, Google India Digital Services—and others have challenged the March 28 judgment by the NCLAT, which largely affirmed the CCI's core findings that Google abused its dominant position in multiple markets in the Android mobile device ecosystem through its Play Store policies and engaged in unfair promotion of Google Pay, thereby violating Section 4(2)(e) of the Competition tech companies have also challenged the NCLAT's May 1 order that corrected its "inadvertent error" in its original judgment, reinstating CCI's two key data-related directives, which require the tech giant to disclose its data policies and refrain from leveraging billing data for competitive CCI's October 2020 order had penalised Google for allegedly exploiting its dominant position in markets such as online search and the Android app store. The competition watchdog had imposed a penalty of Rs 936 crore against the tech giant and its companies for engaging in anti-competitive behaviour by mandating the use of its Google Play Billing System for app purchases, while exempting its own applications like YouTube from similar commission structures. The antitrust body had also directed Google to cease these practices, including allowing third-party billing and ensuring data the appellate tribunal affirmed the CCI's s order that Google imposed unfair and discriminatory conditions on app developers through mandatory use of Google Play billing system for paid apps and in-app purchases, it set aside the competition watchdog's findings regarding denial of market access and restriction of innovation on the grounds that Google's billing services constituted less than 1% of total UPI transactions and that there was insufficient evidence of market foreclosure or hindrance to technical original penalty of Rs 936.44 crore was also reduced by the NCLAT to Rs 216.69 crore by limiting it to Play Store-specific revenues rather than Google's global turnover. The appellate tribunal also rejected some findings of the antitrust body's order, which the CCI has challenged now in the startups, including People Interactive India (operator of Shaadi. com), Mebigo Labs (owner of Kuku FM), the Indian Broadcasting and Digital Foundation, and the Indian Digital Media Industry Foundation, had moved the CCI seeking a probe into Google's functioning.

Telangana mulls dedicated green energy equipment manufacturing zones
Telangana government is setting up dedicated Green Energy Equipment Zones and inviting global majors such as Toshiba to invest in such facilities on sectors like batteries, power components and smart grids, Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu said on Friday. The Minister was speaking after inaugurating a ₹65 crore CRGO Core Processing Centre and a ₹105 crore Surge Arrester Line at the Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) (TTDI) facility in Rudraram, near Hyderabad. He also laid the foundation for a ₹177 crore expansion of TTDI's power transformers manufacturing line, Mr. Sridhar Babu's office said, sharing breakup of the ₹347 crore investment by the company on the projects. Citing the Economic Survey (2024–25) estimates that India's domestic electricity demand will double by 2040, the Minister said, 'We are proactively working to attract new industries to meet this demand. The State government has also introduced the Clean and Green Energy Policy – 2025. 'So far, we have attracted investments worth ₹29,000 crore in the clean energy sector. Special plans are being formulated and implemented to scale up new renewable energy capacity to 20,000 MW by 2030,' he said Toshiba and the Telangana government are also launching a research and development hub for smart energy solutions. There are immense opportunities in Telangana for investments in clean tech, semi-conductors, robotics, and advanced manufacturing, he said, urging Japanese firms to invest in the State. Separately, the company said the new manufacturing lines are part of the ₹562 crore (Japanese Yen 10 billion) investment commitment TTDI made and signed an MoU with the State government during Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's visit to Japan earlier this year. The proposed investment is expected to generate over 250 direct jobs over the three years from FY 2024, further contributing to the socio-economic development of the region. The strategic initiative reinforces Toshiba's long-term commitment to establish India as its manufacturing base and export hub for transmission and distribution (T&D) business, it said. The CRGO Core Processing Centre has a capacity to process 12,000 tonnes of Cold Rolled Grain-Oriented steel annually, while the Surge Arrester Production Line is designed to manufacture 80,000 units per year. The EHV Power Transformer expansion project will increase TTDI's overall power transformer production capacity from 30,000 MVA per annum to 42,000 MVA per annum. These additions will enhance TTDI's domestic and global supply capabilities to support growing demand in India and international markets. 'Our planned investment will bolster Toshiba's manufacturing footprint in India and contribute to local employment and skills development. We are poised to accelerate our manufacturing capabilities, improve operational efficiency, increase speed-to-market...' TTDI CMD Hiroshi Furuta said. Labour Minister G. Vivek Venkat Swamy and others participated in the programme.
