Steelers' Aaron Rodgers opens up about Will Howard's injury at training camp
On Wednesday, reporters asked Rodgers to speak on Howard's injury setback — and the four-time MVP didn't mince words in explaining why 2025 is still a pivotal growth year for the rookie quarterback.
'I mean, it sucks,' Rodgers said. 'Sucks for him, for sure, 'cause he's had such a nice camp as a young player. And then watching him at minicamp and seeing his command of the offense. But this year is a growth year for him. It's a year to watch and learn — and obviously better himself. This will just be a minor setback for him. … This is a year for him to grow and learn — and get his body ready the way he wants to get it, and get ready to be the guy for a long time.'
No one was writing off Howard's Steel City career after the broken finger, but Steelers fans were certainly disappointed after realizing they might not get to see him show off in preseason — and HC Mike Tomlin's injury update did little to change that.
The new injury hasn't changed Rodgers' overall commitment to preparing Howard to take his place once he retires — in fact, it's just another opportunity to smile in the face of adversity.

Notre Dame CB Leonard Moore, LB Drayk Bowen named to 2025 Bednarik Award Watch List
1️⃣5️⃣3️⃣4️⃣Difference makers on defense 🔥☘️Leonard Moore and Drayk Bowen have been named to the Bednarik Award Watch List #GoIrish☘️ It's been a notable offseason for Notre Dame football when it comes to preseason accolades, and that continued when two more players were named to a notable watch list. Cornerback Leonard Moore and linebacker Drayk Bowen have been named to the 2025 Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List. The award honors the most outstanding defensive player in college football. The only former Fighting Irish player to win this award was linebacker Manti Te'o in 2012. Moore had a standout 2024 season, becoming the FWAA freshman defensive player of the year after replacing an injured Christian Gray and eventually an injured Ben Morrison in the starting lineup. In 10 starts, he recorded 48 tackles, 11 pass breakups and two forced fumbles. Meanwhile, Bowen started all 16 games last season and finished third on the team with 78 tackles, and he also led the team with three forced fumbles. He's a team leader as well as the most experienced linebacker on the roster. Oklahoma star pass rusher named to Bednarik Award watch list
The Oklahoma Sooners expect to have one of the best defenses in the nation in 2025 after a breakout year in 2024. A big reason for the lofty expectations is that Oklahoma will deploy one of college football's best pass rushers in the country, R Mason Thomas. Thomas is coming off of a season where he had nine sacks and led the Sooners in pressures. He landed on the preseason All-SEC team as voted on by the media and became one of the most disruptive players in the SEC last season. Ahead of year four with the Sooners, Thomas was included on the Bednarik Watch list for 2025. The Bednarik Award is given to the Defensive Player of the Year in college football. Colorado's Travis Hunter won the award in 2024. Former linebacker great Teddy Lehman is the only Oklahoma Sooners defender to win the award since its inception in 1995.
