TMC-BJP war of words after 2 found dead in Khejuri
2
Khejuri: The deaths of two persons under mysterious circumstances on the sidelines of a local function at Khejuri in East Midnapore on Friday night have sparked a tussle among rival political parties.
The bodies of Sujit Das, 23, of Purba Bhangonmari, and Sudhir Chandra Paik, 65, of Jhantihari, were found at the venue of a 'jalsa' at Bhangonmari village. While BJP claimed they were murdered, Trinamool said a police investigation would uncover the truth. Locals said the duo might have been electrocuted after a halogen light fell on them.
In a statement on X, Bengal leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari said the victims had gone to attend a Muharram festival at the Janaka area of Khejuri last night when they were murdered. He named seven people allegedly responsible for the deaths, including a local TMC neta. "The presence of injury marks and blood stains on the deceased suggest suspicious circumstances behind these deaths," he said.
Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said: "This constant attempt to lace everything with religious poison to incite people is disgraceful politics."

Andhra Pradesh government issues new orders on Amaravati land allocation
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh govt issued fresh orders on Sunday regarding the allocation and reallocation of lands in the capital region of Amaravati, marking a strategic move to streamline institutional land use. Acting on the recommendations of the Group of Ministers (GoM), the govt sanctioned land to several new organisations and revised the allotments for others. As part of the latest orders, 32.40 acres of land were allocated to seven new institutions in Amaravati. Notably, the BJP was allotted 2 acres of land for establishing its state office. The income tax department and AP Grameena Bank were allotted 2 acres of land. KIMS was allocated 25 acres of land for the construction of a medical college. These allocations are being made on a 60-year lease basis. Simultaneously, the govt cancelled earlier land allocations to some organisations. These include 0.40 acres allotted to GAIL and 1 acre to Ambica, with the CRDA Commissioner directed to take appropriate follow-up action. Additionally, amendments were made to land allocations for six previously approved institutions. These decisions are part of the implementation of proposals submitted during the 18th Cabinet Sub-Committee on Land Allocation, held on June 23. Subsequent proposals were reviewed and placed before the 50th CRDA Authority meeting on July 5, following which the govt gave its administrative nod. The new orders were issued through GO MS No. 122 by S Suresh Kumar, principal secretary of MA&UD department. These changes reflect the govt's intent to ensure optimal and purposeful use of prime capital region lands. With new institutions gaining ground and non-utilised lands being reclaimed, Amaravati's development is expected to align more closely with the state's administrative and infrastructural goals.

Contradictory statements on forming of govt. will cost AIADMK, BJP dearly in polls: Udhayanidhi
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Sunday said that contradictory statements by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on the formation of the next government in Tamil Nadu will not even fetch votes for NDA alliance in 2026 Assembly elections. Addressing at Booth Level Agents (BLAs) for North zone of DMK here, Mr. Udhayanidhi said that Mr. Shah has been repeatedly saying that only coalition government by the NDA will be formed after 2026 elections whereas Mr. Palaniswami keeps insisting that the AIADMK will form government on its own by securing a majority of seats in the Assembly. 'Tamil Nadu voters are watching such contradictory statements of leaders in these two parties. Such statements clearly show that there is no unity among NDA alliance partners,' he said. The DMK's youth wing secretary criticised Mr. Palaniswami for allying the AIADMK, a political party formed in the name of former Chief Minister and Dravidian stalwart C.N. Annadurai, with the national saffron party, the BJP, that strongly opposes rationalistic principles, for 2026 polls. 'People are laughing at the AIADMK after the party joined hands with the BJP to which it earlier said that will never get aligned with BJP for electoral gains. The AIADMK supremo has pledged his party for his vested interests,' he said. On Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai (women's basic income) scheme, Mr. Udhayanidhi gave hope to those who were left-out in the initial phase of the enrolment under the scheme. He said that a census is being conducted to identify beneficiaries who were left to get enrolled under the scheme. All left-out eligible beneficiaries, who will be enrolled from this month (July), will get the financial assistance from September onwards, he said. Earlier, Mr. Udhayanidhi flagged two new bus services for women commuters under Magalir Vidiyal Payanam (free bus travel scheme for women) in Tiruvannamalai town. Mr. Stalin also flagged four more air-conditioned buses - two each for Chennai and Coimbatore. As a gesture of assuming office after Tiruvannamalai became a Municipal Corporation, he handed over the sceptre (sengol) to new Mayor Nirmala Velmaran in the presence of Minister for Public Works and Highways E.V. Velu, Collector K. Tharpagaraj and Corporation Commissioner, S. Selva Balaji.
