Pashtun Activists Slam Pakistan Army For Killing Mother, Her Kids In Waziristan Drone Strike

Activists from Pashtun groups said areas where Pashtuns live are being used as a weapons testing laboratory by Pakistan Army.
Fazal ur Rehman Afridi, an activist from the Pashtun rights group, Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), said Pakistan Army conducted 32 drone strikes in North and South Waziristan and Tank districts over the past few years and sharply criticised them for the recent murder of four children and their mother.
The children and the mother were killed in the drone strike conducted by the Pakistan Army in Hurmuz, North Waziristan. Afridi told news agency ANI that Pashtun inhabited areas are 'weapons testing laboratories" for the Pakistan Army.
'This is not the first instance where the Pakistani army has assaulted innocent Pashtun civilians, particularly women and children," Afridi said.
He stated that the latest victims were children aged from five to eight.
The activist has accused the Pakistan Army of targeting civilians under the pretext of counter-terror operations, calling the recent strike in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa part of a wider campaign to displace local populations and seize resource-rich land.

In a stark shift, Pakistan has turned its drone arsenal inward, launching strikes in the Waziristan region—an area that once supported the state during major counterterrorism operations like Zarb-e-Azb and Radd-ul-Fasaad, intelligence sources told News18. Over the past few months, North and South Waziristan have seen a sharp escalation in drone attacks carried out by Pakistan's own military, raising alarm over civilian casualties and the absence of oversight.
Rejecting the military's claim that the strike targeted militants, the activist alleged that over 55,000 Taliban leaders and their families had been relocated into Pashtun areas through a formal arrangement with the Pakistani state. 'Now they call them terrorists and use that to justify drone attacks. This is a proxy war. The Taliban are just pawns of the Pakistan Army," he said.
Sources point out that the strikes are happening without any parliamentary debate or judicial review, highlighting how Pakistan's powerful military continues to operate with near-total autonomy. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif's recent dismissive remarks have further raised concerns.
They added that communities once considered partners in counterterrorism are now being labelled as extremists or foreign agents.
Afridi also linked the attacks to India's recent anti-terror operation. 'Immediately after India's Operation Sindoor, the Pakistan Army resumed bombing Pashtun civilians. Innocent children and the elderly were killed," the activist said.
Expressing full support for India's operation targeting terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, he said many Pashtuns welcomed the move. 'We were relieved our regions were not affected. The terror hubs are in Punjab. We only wish India had continued longer to dismantle the rogue Pakistani military," he said.
At least four children from the same family were killed and five others injured in the suspected drone strike in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Washington, DC [US], June 4 (ANI): An all-party parliamentary delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor arrived in Washington, DC, on Tuesday (local time). 'In Washington, we'll have the interesting phenomenon of the Pakistani delegation in America, and almost exactly the same days... Tomorrow almost they will be in Washington, while we are in Washington on the same date. So there's going to be perhaps an increase in interest because there are two duelling delegations in the same city,' Tharoor told ANI, as the delegation he is leading will be in the US for its last leg of the visit. Tharoor said that though India's case might not be at the top of the agenda for the US media, India can get its message across easily. 'It's a challenging environment. America is a very crowded media space, the world's news generator. Therefore, our story may not be at the top of their minds. But if we can get the attention of those who care about South Asia, those who care about India, those who care about terrorism, we can get our message across very, very easily,' he said. Tharoor said that the delegation has meetings set up with influential government officials and committees which formulate public opinion. He said, 'In Washington we have meetings set up with the entire range of public opinion in Washington, government officials, legislators, there are senators and congressmen, various committees in the House and the Senate, think tanks who are very influential in Washington, particularly those focusing on foreign policy, media and some public addresses, like, for example, the National Press Club... I've been asked to give six or seven interviews, seven or eight interviews to individual American channels and broadcasters, podcasters, and so on,' he said. Tharoor said that the US is important to India in terms of defence, intelligence sharing, QUAD, etc. 'The US is important to us at all levels because frankly the Security Council in a sense is a small part of our relationship with the US which is huge, whether it comes to trade, whether it comes to defence, whether it comes intelligence sharing, whether it comes to our participation in the QUAD in the G-20, there are just so many avenues in which we cooperate with the US,' he said. Tharoor added that it's no coincidence that Pakistan sent its own delegation, but they are not covering as many countries as India is. He said the Pakistani delegation is covering countries that they deem important. He added that India never wanted war. 'We have enormous respect for the American presidency, and we will speak with that respect in mind. But broadly speaking, our understanding is a bit different... No one needed to persuade us to stop. We had already said to stop. If there was any persuasion by the American president or his senior officials, it would have been persuasion of the Pakistanis. They would have had to be persuaded. We don't need to be persuaded because we don't want war. We want to focus on development. That's the basic message,' he said. 'We had consistently said from the very beginning on May 7th that we are not interested in prolonging the conflict. This is not the opening salvo in some sort of war. All it is is retribution against the terrorists, period. If Pakistan had not reacted, we would not have reacted,' he added. Medigadda a major ‘financial conspiracy': V&E report
1 2 Hyderabad: A detailed report by the vigilance and enforcement (V&E) department has uncovered what it termed a "major financial conspiracy" in the construction of the Medigadda barrage, which is part of the state's ambitious Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. The report covers construction activities from April 2015 to Oct 2023 and alleges a series of 'intentional' violations, procedural lapses, and unauthorised financial decisions. Senior officials in the irrigation and command area development (I&CAD), and finance departments are accused of colluding to push through flawed approvals and irregular payments, resulting in serious structural failures and significant losses to the public exchequer. The V&E report listed 18 major lapses, highlighting how assurances made during chief minister-level review meetings were misused to justify estimate revisions, design changes, and unapproved payments. A key example is a CM-level meeting held on Dec 9, 2017. Though its instructions were recorded and circulated by the principal secretary of I&CAD, the department failed to verify or adhere to these directions while processing revised estimates (RE), the report alleged. According to the report, these deviations were deliberate and not accidental. Project officials used govt approvals to push contractor-favourable proposals, benefiting the contractor, L&T-PES (Private Limited and Engineering) JV, the report alleged and said these were fast-tracked without evaluation, opening the door for misappropriation of public funds. Engineering violations At the project execution level, the report alleged serious breaches of standard engineering protocols. Initial investigations and surveys failed to meet standards set by the Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP). Foundational designs were reportedly compromised due to the use of incomplete geo-technical data, which field engineers and the chief design officer alleged to have accepted without question. A major concern was the construction of secant piles, critical for the barrage's stability. According to L&T's own construction protocol, secondary piles should be placed within 1-2 days of primary ones. However, this was delayed by up to 45 days, and the quality control team had failed to intervene. The superintending engineer allowed the work to continue without verifying the agency's qualifications, the report alleged. Another serious lapse was the removal of cofferdams and sheet piles—a task contractually assigned to the contractor. Instead of ensuring this was completed, officials included a post-facto ₹61.2 crore provision for cofferdam works in RE-II, after the barrage had already been inaugurated. This move enabled illegal payments, the report said. Cofferdams were also not dismantled to pre-construction levels, disturbing the natural flow of the Godavari river and putting the barrage at further risk. The report categorised this as criminal negligence requiring legal action. Further negligence was noted in the failure to remove overburden upstream of the barrage, despite warnings from 2D and 3D model studies by the Telangana State Engineering Research Laboratories (TSERL). This oversight changed the river's flow dynamics and contributed to structural damage downstream, the report highlighted. Undue financial advantage Some of these violations not only reflect administrative failure but also suggest deliberate attempts to extend undue financial advantages to the contractor at the state's expense, the report alleged. The V&E department concluded that the missteps taken from the start of the redesign in April 2015 to the barrage's structural failure on Oct 21, 2023, reflected a pattern of deliberate negligence, policy breaches, and financial misconduct. The report also called for strong disciplinary and legal action against the principal secretaries of the I&CAD and finance departments, chief engineer, and all subordinate officials involved throughout the project's planning, approval, and execution phases. Some of the points raised by the department include: Retention bank guarantees were released prematurely to the contractor, before project completion. This deprived the state of a financial safeguard and caused a direct loss of ₹22.9 crore in interest. The chief engineer violated a GO (dated Feb 20, 2016) by unilaterally approving deviations of up to 15% without informing the govt. A completion certificate was issued for ₹3,348 crore, even though ₹238 crore worth of work remained incomplete. An additional ₹367 crore was paid for new or excess items beyond RE-I, without any formal govt approval. A total of ₹259 crore was approved above RE-I's sanctioned ₹2,933 crore, also without proper permission. These payments were processed even before RE-II had been formally sanctioned. A ₹39 crore claim was made under the pretext of excess dewatering.
