Romario Shepherd returns, Alzarri rested as West Indies name squad for Pakistan ODIs
West Indies have named a 15-member squad for their upcoming three-match ODI series against Pakistan, with all-rounder Romario Shepherd returning to the side in place of fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who has been rested as part of workload missed the tour of England in May-June due to his involvement in the rescheduled IPL playoffs but now makes a timely return as the Caribbean side continues its push for automatic qualification to the 2027 ODI World Cup. The series will be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad on August 8, 10 and from Shepherd's return, the squad remains unchanged from the one that toured England earlier this year. Alzarri Joseph, who featured in the recent Test series against Australia, has been given a break to manage his workload ahead of a busy season. The squad once again features two young prospects — 23-year-old left-arm spinner Jediah Blades, who made his ODI debut against Bangladesh in December last year, and 18-year-old keeper-batter Jewel Andrew, who recently earned his maiden T20I cap in the just-concluded series against Hetmyer, despite impressive performances for Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket after the England tour, has not been included in the squad. Speaking on the upcoming series, head coach Daren Sammy highlighted the dual importance of immediate results and long-term development."Pakistan presents a different test and challenge as we continue our push for automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup," Sammy said. "While qualifying is our immediate goal, maintaining a winning mentality and team cohesion is essential for long-term success. "The upcoming matches against teams like Pakistan, who are ranked higher, provide crucial opportunities to earn valuable ranking points to improve our standing ahead of the World Cup."West Indies squad for Pakistan ODIs: Shai Hope (captain), Jewel Andrew, Jediah Blades, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Justin Greaves, Amir Jangoo, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford, Jayden Seales, Romario Shepherd.- Ends

ECB to abandon Hundred-branded balls
London [UK], August 6 (ANI): The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will not use the white Kookaburra balls that came with a Hundred-branding as it was criticised by several players for low scores in the tournament last year, according to ESPNcricinfo. Despite the shorter format theoretically favouring more aggressive hitting, the men's Hundred's scoring rate fell to 1.37 runs per ball last season, which is much lower than other shorter formats like the IPL, Major League Cricket, and the attributed the batch of balls used, and specialised new-ball bowlers like Tim Southee and Daniel Worrall excelled.'The seam seems to be massive. In every game, it seems the ball is nipping. Most teams are 30 for 5 in most games," Moeen Ali said as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. The ECB commissioned a comprehensive study over the winter that revealed little proof that the balls performed differently from those used in other white-ball cricket throughout England and Wales, despite Kookaburra's assertion that they were manufactured to the same specifications beyond the ECB has chosen to abandon the Hundred-branded balls, switching back to the same set that was used in the T20 Blast for the 2025 campaign. They hope that the change, which follows repeated unfavourable comments, will please players and that the impression of less support for bowlers will result in quicker scoring the change made no apparent difference in Tuesday night's curtain-raiser, with London Spirit's men bowled out for 80 by Oval Invincibles on a slow, low surface.'It was a tough wicket to bat on," Rashid Khan said, after taking 3 for 11 on debut for the two-time defending champions. Who Will Captain Afghanistan In Asia Cup Clash Against India-Pak? Know As ACB Announces 22 member preliminary squad
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced its 22-member preliminary squad for the upcoming ACC T20 Asia Cup 2025 on August 5. Rashid Khan will continue to lead the national side in T20 internationals, despite some concerns about his recent form after missing the 2025 edition of Major League Cricket (MLC). "Rashid Khan is Afghanistan's superstar player. He has always done it for the team. Being in form or out of form, that's a part of game but he knows very well how to come back stronger and perform in major events for the team and the country," said Mir Mubariz, a member of ACB's selection committee, in a conversation with Cricbuzz. According to Mubariz, a two-week preparation camp will take place before the squad heads to the UAE for a tri-nation series involving Pakistan and the host nation. This series will serve as preparation for the Asia Cup. He outlined the squad's strengths, particularly their spin department, and spoke about the new faces included in the camp. "The whole world knows Afghanistan has got the best spin unit, with the likes of Rashid Khan, Mujeeb, Mohammad Nabi, and Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar. We have also added Nangyal Kharoti and Sharafuddin Ashraf, particularly Sharafuddin Ashraf, who has been doing great in domestic cricket for the last few years and was the Player of the Tournament in the Shpageeza 2025," he said. Mubariz also highlighted some of the new additions to the squad. 'We have added a number of new guys such as top-order batter Wafiullah Tarakhil who was great in domestic events and was part of our A team too. Two pacers Abdullah Ahmadzai who is part of the preparation camp for the first time and Bashir Ahmad who have played with our A team. They are the future of Afghanistan. After the tri-nation series and the camps, the coach, captain, and the selection committee will all decide together whom to go with for the Asia Cup,' he explained. Afghanistan is scheduled to play the tournament's opening match on September 9 against Hong Kong at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. They are placed in Group B alongside Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The team was phenomenal in T20 World Cup 2024 reaching semi-finals where they were thrashed by South Africa. Afghanistan's 22-member preliminary squad: Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Sediqullah Atal, Wafiullah Tarakhil, Ibrahim Zadran, Darwish Rasooli, Mohammad Ishaq, Rashid Khan (c), Mohammad Nabi, Nangyal Kharoti, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Karim Janat, Azmatullah Omarzai, Gulbadin Naib, Mujeeb Zadran, AM Ghazanfar, Noor Ahmad, Fazal Haq Farooqi, Naveen ul Haq, Farid Malik, Saleem Safi, Abdullah Ahmadzai, Bashir Ahmad.
