Country singer Conner Smith fatally strikes 77-year-old woman with his truck in crosswalk, police say
Country singer Conner Smith was involved in a car accident in Nashville Sunday night that left a 77-year-old woman dead, police said.
Smith was driving his Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on 3rd Avenue North when he struck Dorothy Dobbins as she was walking in a crosswalk, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said in a news release. The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. CT.
Dobbins, who lived nearby, was taken to the hospital, where she died.
Smith's attorney confirmed to The Tennessean that the 24-year-old singer "was involved in a car accident that tragically claimed a life."
"His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins' family during this incredibly difficult time. Mr. Smith continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation," attorney Worrick G. Robinson said.
Authorities said preliminary findings indicate that Smith failed to yield the right of way to the pedestrian. He did not show any signs of impairment, police said. No charges have been filed.
Smith, a Nashville native, is signed to Big Machine Records' Valory label. He released his debut studio album "Smoky Mountains" last year.

She leaves behind a daughter, a nurse at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where Dobbins was rushed after the crash and later died. Her family shared new photographs showing Dobbins smiling with a birthday cake and completing a jigsaw puzzle, enjoying her time as a grandmother of four. In a moving Facebook post, her niece wrote: 'I'm devastated to share that my aunt, Dot Dobbins, was killed in an accident last night while walking her dog. 'We are in total shock and fully heartbroken. Dot was incredibly active and healthy, enjoying her retirement to the fullest. 'We are still finding our footing but my family has been overwhelmed with love and support. I'm so grateful. 'There is so much more to say about Dot, the incredible work she did, her role as D-Dot to 4 grand boys she doted on, and the both famous and infamous recipes she brought to every family event. 'For now I just want to thank you for the love and light being sent to the entire Dobbins family. ... We need it.' English drug dealer locked up for peddling cocaine in Aberdeen
An English drug dealer who operated as part of a gang to sell narcotics in Aberdeen has been caged for his part in the crime. Byron Smith appeared via video link at Peterhead Sheriff Court on Monday to be sentenced for supplying both cocaine and heroin in Aberdeen two years ago. He had lodged guilty pleas in May. The 22-year-old, whose address was given in court papers as HMP Grampian, will now spend the next 15 months behind bars. As part of the Ace syndicate, Smith operated out of a flat on Park Road in Aberdeen. Fiscal depute Jennifer Pritchard told the court that he came to the attention of officers on November 7 2023, when he was spotted entering the property. 'Conversation could be heard within the address,' she added. 'Entry was subsequently forced.' Within, officers uncovered 123 wraps of drugs and a rectangular container containing cocaine. In total, heroin worth £380 was recovered and cocaine to the tune of £1,700. Smith's defence agent, Leonard Burkinshaw, branded the crime a 'well-known tale in this area'. 'He was just 20 at the time of the offences,' he said. 'He was tasked to perform in this area, my lord. That is essentially the situation he found himself in.' Mr Burkinshaw added that his client was looking to 'start fresh and start a new life' following his conviction. Sentence on Smith had previously been deferred for background reports to give the court information on his suitability for work in the community. Referencing these, Sheriff Craig Findlater noted there was a 'history of failing to comply' with such orders. He added that Smith had already been jailed previously. Ordering him to be locked up for more than a year, Sheriff Findlater said: 'It speaks of a poor attitude on your part. 'You've travelled to Scotland in order to deal drugs. You have already received custodial sentences in Scotland and in England.'

His victims were left shaken by the incidents, and were taken to hospital in order to be tested for various conditions. Adam Smith, 33, was a serving prisoner at HMP Parc in Bridgend when he carried out the disgusting assaults on staff members at the jail. He had been sentenced to six years imprisonment for inflicting grievous bodily harm. A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Wednesday heard the first assault took place on November 17, 2023, when a prison officer was mingling with inmates. He described it as "cold, runny wax", and he could smell faeces and urine. The officer tipped the back of his head to stop liquid getting into his eyes, and was described as "distressed and shaken". He was taken to hospital for a routine check. Article continues below Smith was later identified on CCTV and he was also overheard saying "I potted an officer." When confronted, he claimed he had been "paid to do it". On February 2 last year, another officer was attacked when Smith sprayed the contents of a plastic bottle and was laughing as he did so. The contents went on the officer's face and upper body and he could smell urine. The officer slipped on urine on the floor and felt a pain in his left as he grappled with the defendant, who continued to laugh. His clothes were wet and his eyes were stinging, and he was required to attend hospital for his eyes to be washed with a syringe. The officer was left "angry and upset" by the incident. A third officer was assaulted by Smith on March 20 last year when the defendant walked towards him and punched him to the mouth. Prosecutor Jenny Yeo said the officer felt blood in his mouth and his teeth felt loose. As a result, his teeth had to be realigned and fixed back into place. Smith, now of HMP Swaleside, pleaded guilty to two counts of administering a noxious or poisonous substance and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The court heard he had 28 previous convictions, including three offences of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, 12 offences of battery and inflicting grievous bodily harm. Article continues below In mitigation, David Pinnell said his client had since been diagnosed with ADHD, for which he was now receiving medication, and wanted to reengage with his partner and three children. Judge Rhys Rowlands sentenced him to a total of 42 months imprisonment, which he will serve consecutively to his current sentence.
