Indian Navy signs contract with BEL for implementation of NMDA Project

Indian Navy
has signed a contract with a major defence PSU for the implementation of the
National Maritime Domain Awareness
(NMDA) Project towards strengthening maritime and coastal security, the defence ministry said on Tuesday.
The contract was signed in the presence of Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, and Chairman and Managing Director,
Bharat Electronics Limited
(BEL), Bengaluru, Manoj Jain.
The project will bring in an integrated approach to data collation, analysis and information sharing among the various maritime stakeholders.

"The Indian Navy has signed a contract with
Bharat Electronics Limited
(BEL), Bengaluru, for the implementation of National Maritime Domain Awareness Project towards strengthening maritime and coastal security," it said.
The project entails the upgrade of the existing National Command, Control, Communication and Intelligence (NC3I) Network to the NMDA Network along with the incorporation of AI-enabled software, the ministry said.

As part of the project, the existing Information Management and Analysis Centre (IMAC) at Gurugram, which is the nodal centre of NC3I Network, will also be upgraded into a
multi-agency NMDA Centre
hosting representatives from various national agencies, it said.
The project will be executed on a "turnkey basis" and will be administered by the Indian Navy, the statement said.

"MSMEs must align with stringent quality and certification standards if they are to be part of the global supply chain," he said, adding that flexibility—without compromising regulatory compliance—is essential from both large industries and MSMEs. "This calls for a mindset change across the ecosystem," he noted. India Manufacturing Show India Manufacturing Show 2025 is being organised by Laghu Udyog Bharati-Karnataka in association with the IMS Foundation. The international expo, scheduled to be held from November 6-8 at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre, will showcase core manufacturing verticals, including defence and aerospace. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the event, which is expected to generate business leads worth Rs 450 crore, according to a press note.

Meanwhile, stealth frigate INS Satpura is participating in the 32nd edition of the bilateral naval exercise Simbex with the Republic of Singapore Navy. An officer quoted by TOI said the exercise involves advanced naval operations such as air defence drills, cross-deck helicopter flights, aerial and surface targeting, coordinated manoeuvres, and VBSS (Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure) Satpura's participation marks yet another chapter in the strong and long-standing maritime partnership between India and Navy's deployment follows a $375 million agreement signed in January 2022 to supply the Philippines with three BrahMos supersonic cruise missile coastal batteries. India is also holding talks with other ASEAN countries, including Indonesia and Vietnam, for potential defence exports. Besides the jointly developed BrahMos missile, India is offering the indigenous Akash air defence missile system. The Akash system can intercept a variety of aerial threats, including hostile aircraft, helicopters, drones, and subsonic cruise missiles, within a 25-kilometre range. India's latest naval deployments signal a growing effort to build trust and interoperability with key partners in Southeast Asia. As strategic competition intensifies in the Indo-Pacific, India is strengthening its maritime presence and defence cooperation across the region. (With inputs from TOI)

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the three-day expo that will feature 400 exhibitors, B2B meetings and vendor development programmes, highlighting Atmanirbhar Bharat and opportunities for MSMEs and defence collaborations. In the lead-up to the show, billed as the Aerospace & Defence Engineering Expo, Bharat Electronics Ltd Chairman and MD Manoj Jain underscored the critical role of large industries in nurturing and empowering MSMEs to make them globally competitive and locally empowered.. Speaking at the curtain-raiser event, Jain emphasised that quality and certification were non-negotiable in the aerospace and defence sectors.
