Statehood Supporters Launch Vidarbha Sankalp Padyatra
Nagpur: In a show of unity and determination, statehood supporters from across
Vidarbha
region came together on Tuesday to launch the
Vidarbha Sankalp Padyatra
. This mass movement aims to pressure the central govt to grant statehood to Vidarbha under Article 3 of the Indian Constitution.The
padyatra
was officially inaugurated at 1pm from Itwari, Nagpur, after leaders paid tribute at the symbolic site of
Vidarbha Chandika
. The
yatra
was flagged off by West Vidarbha president Ahmed Kadar and supported by various grass roots leaders and members.
The march will continue for 12 days, traversing Nagpur rural to Wardha district, and culminate on May 25 in Amravati. The final gathering will host representatives from various sectors, including sarpanchs, educators, engineers, and office workers at Abhiyanta Bhawan, Shegaon Naka.VRAS youth wing president Mukesh Masurkar said, "Supporters of the Vidarbha statehood movement highlight deep-rooted disparities between Vidarbha and the rest of Maharashtra.
Decades of underfunding, including the non-receipt of Rs65,000 crore in irrigation funds, 131 stalled dam projects, and loss of 14 lakh hectares of potential farmland, all contribute to a devastating farmer suicide crisis."He added, "Despite having 23 minerals, 70% of Maharashtra's electricity production, and rich forest and water resources, Vidarbha remains industrially and economically neglected, exacerbating issues like malnutrition, air pollution, and rising naxalism."The yatra aims to raise awareness, build grassroots momentum, and send a clear message: the people of Vidarbha are ready to fight for a separate, competent, and balanced state. Their slogan rings loud: "Our war has begun. We will fight and win. We will be cut, but we will not be removed."Key regional figures, including Babarao Shelke, Mukesh Masurkar, Sunil Chokhare, and others, set the march in motion. They were joined by prominent voices like VRAS President Wamanrao Chatap, Srinivas Khandewale, Ranjanatai Mamarde, Arun Kedar, and PR Rajput.

Implement CM's directives for mango farmers' welfare: MP
Chittoor: Chittoor MP D Prasad Rao on Saturday underlined the need for strict adherence to the directives issued by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, whose top priority is the welfare of mango farmers. In a statement, the MP highlighted the importance of implementing the government's measures without deviation. He urged officials to ensure the reopening of mango pulp processing units and facilitate the purchase of Totapuri mangoes directly from farmers to prevent losses. The latter expressed his gratitude to Naidu for announcing a minimum support price (MSP) of Rs.12,000 per tonne for Totapuri mangoes, a move that has brought great relief to farmers. Welcoming the MSP announcement, he praised the coalition government for standing firmly on the side of farmers. He called on officials to understand the government's intent and raise awareness among mango farmers about sending only ripened fruit to processing industries. He stressed the need for horticulture and agriculture assistants to work extensively at the grassroots level to educate farmers on this issue. Further, he instructed the district administration to display daily updates about operational mango pulp units and to implement strict surveillance at the state borders to monitor and regulate mango imports from neighbouring states such as Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Prasad Rao also advised officials to continuously assess the situation at processing units to prevent any inconvenience to farmers. He underlined the responsibility of district authorities to ensure that pulp industries purchase Totapuri mangoes as per the government's guidelines and that farmers receive the announced support price.

"World's biggest engineering blunder": BJP MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy slams Kaleshwaram project
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 8 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Konda Vishweshwar Reddy described the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project in Telangana as the 'world's biggest engineering blunder' and termed it a 'huge scam' that has severely impacted the state's economy. Speaking to ANI on Saturday, BJP MP Reddy said, 'Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project in Telangana is the world's biggest engineering blunder and it's a huge scam which ruined Telangana economically. It is one of the prime reasons that the richest state of Telangana is in such a horrible economic condition. We have a loan of Rs 8 lakh crores.' 'The present Congress government does not have money to pay salaries and run the government,' he added, blaming the ruling party for the deepening financial crisis. Earlier, Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy had held the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government responsible for the project's failure, calling it the 'biggest man-made disaster' since Independence and the 'most expensive engineering failure' caused by any state government in India. He said that Telangana is currently paying Rs16,000 crore annually in interest and instalments on high-cost loans borrowed during the BRS regime for this 'faulty' project, thereby placing an enormous burden on the state's finances and its farmers. Meanwhile, the Justice PC Ghose Commission on Tuesday issued summons to former Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), former Minister Harish Rao, and BJP MP Etela Rajender, who also served as a minister during the BRS regime, in the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP). The Commission, which has been probing financial and procedural lapses in the multi-crore irrigation project, directed the three political leaders to appear for questioning in the first week of June. According to the sources, KCR was asked to appear before the Commission on June 5, followed by Harish Rao on June 6 and Etela Rajender on June 9. (ANI)

'Viksit Krishi Abhiyan': Shivraj Singh Chouhan unveils housing, seeds boost, and Narmada water for Sehore
New Delhi [India], June 7 (ANI): Union Minister of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare, and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, visited Ichhawar in Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday as part of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA). During his visit, the Union Minister engaged with local farmers, discussing key agricultural issues and initiatives to enhance farmers' welfare and rural development. According to a release, this initiative embodies the vision of 'One Nation-One Agriculture-One Team' and aims to connect scientists with farmers nationwide. So far, Chouhan has visited Odisha, Jammu, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Punjab, and Uttarakhand. Today, he met with farmers in his birthplace, Sehore. Chouhan highlighted the success of schemes like Ladli Behna Yojana and emphasised that under PM Modi's leadership, India is undergoing a transformative development. He announced that letters of acceptance for around 8 lakh new homes were handed over to the poor under the PM Awas Yojana. Further, the eligibility criteria for the Yojana have been relaxed: people with an income up to Rs15,000, two-wheelers, and up to 2.5 acres of irrigated, or 5 acres of non-irrigated, land are now eligible, as stated in the release. The Minister emphasised women's empowerment by highlighting the success of the Lakhpati Didi programme, and promised early completion of pending projects under the PM Gram Sadak Yojana. He also assured that the Narmada water would soon reach Sehore and its nearby villages. Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, outlined six major goals of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA). These include increasing agricultural production to boost output, reducing input costs to enhance farmers' profitability, and ensuring fair prices to provide economic stability. Additionally, the initiative aims to offer compensation for crop loss to safeguard farmers against natural adversities, promote crop diversification to improve resilience, and preserve the soil for future generations through the adoption of organic farming practices. He said that high-quality seeds, tailored to local climate and soil, can increase yields by up to 1.5 times. Scientific teams are visiting villages to advise farmers based on local agricultural conditions. VKSA is also a two-way communication platform, where scientists share research and listen to the practical challenges of farmers to guide future research and policymaking. Soybean will be procured at Minimum Support Price (MSP), he said, adding that efforts are underway to strengthen the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Delays in insurance claim payments will now attract an additional 12% interest from insurance companies. Chouhan also emphasised the need to modernise farming methods and called for collective participation in Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan to shape a new roadmap for Indian agriculture. (ANI)
