Statehood Supporters Launch Vidarbha Sankalp Padyatra

region came together on Tuesday to launch the
Vidarbha Sankalp Padyatra
. This mass movement aims to pressure the central govt to grant statehood to Vidarbha under Article 3 of the Indian Constitution.The
padyatra
was officially inaugurated at 1pm from Itwari, Nagpur, after leaders paid tribute at the symbolic site of
Vidarbha Chandika
. The
yatra
was flagged off by West Vidarbha president Ahmed Kadar and supported by various grass roots leaders and members.
The march will continue for 12 days, traversing Nagpur rural to Wardha district, and culminate on May 25 in Amravati. The final gathering will host representatives from various sectors, including sarpanchs, educators, engineers, and office workers at Abhiyanta Bhawan, Shegaon Naka.VRAS youth wing president Mukesh Masurkar said, "Supporters of the Vidarbha statehood movement highlight deep-rooted disparities between Vidarbha and the rest of Maharashtra.
Decades of underfunding, including the non-receipt of Rs65,000 crore in irrigation funds, 131 stalled dam projects, and loss of 14 lakh hectares of potential farmland, all contribute to a devastating farmer suicide crisis."He added, "Despite having 23 minerals, 70% of Maharashtra's electricity production, and rich forest and water resources, Vidarbha remains industrially and economically neglected, exacerbating issues like malnutrition, air pollution, and rising naxalism."The yatra aims to raise awareness, build grassroots momentum, and send a clear message: the people of Vidarbha are ready to fight for a separate, competent, and balanced state. Their slogan rings loud: "Our war has begun. We will fight and win. We will be cut, but we will not be removed."Key regional figures, including Babarao Shelke, Mukesh Masurkar, Sunil Chokhare, and others, set the march in motion. They were joined by prominent voices like VRAS President Wamanrao Chatap, Srinivas Khandewale, Ranjanatai Mamarde, Arun Kedar, and PR Rajput.

Kumar Naik told the Lok Sabha on Monday while welcoming the Centre's decision to invest in the National Quantum Mission (NQM). Speaking under Rule 377, Naik stressed the need for better coordination, a clear im-plementation roadmap, and cooperative federalism to ensure that the mission delivers measurable outcomes. Drawing lessons from India's semiconductor programme, he warned against the risk of ambitious projects stalling despite large budget allocations. Naik highlighted Karnataka's early strides in the sector, including the announcement of a Rs1,000-crore Quantum Fund — the first of its kind in the country — and a compre-hensive vision for quantum technology development under Chief Minister Siddara-maiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. He credited State Science and Technology Minister N.S. Key state initiatives include a dedicated Quantum Research Park and Q-City, Fabline, quantum coursework in over 20 colleges, and a strong startup ecosystem. Karnataka produces more than 91,000 quantum-relevant graduates annually, second only to the EU, Naik said. Boseraju added that the success of the national mission depends on the State and Centre working 'hand-in-hand' with shared vision, strategic coordination, and sus-tained investment in talent and infrastructure.

Mushrif warns to blacklist h'way contractor for slow pace of work
Kolhapur: State medical education minister Hasan Mushrif on Monday issued a warning to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials. The minister has asked the officials to instruct the contractor for the Kagal-Satara six-laning project on the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway to show significant progress by Sept 15 or face blacklisting. During a meeting at the district collectorate, Mushrif said that Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari has also called for action against the contractor due to the extremely slow pace of the work. Mushrif discussed the issue with NHAI official Sanjay Kadam over the phone. Kadam provided an update on the current status of the ongoing work and confirmed that the contractor would be blacklisted if no progress is visible by the deadline. District collector Amol Yedge, additional district collector Sanjay Shinde, resident deputy district collector Sanjay Teli, district superintendent land records Shivaji Bhosale, district rehabilitation officer Varsha Shingan, sub-divisional officer of Kagal-Radhanagari Prasad Chougule, among other officers were present for the meeting. Meanwhile, speaking with the reporters after the meeting, Mushrif also took a dig at MLC Satej Patil, stating that the latter has now become an architect. "I was unaware that his knowledge is so vast," he said to Patil's recent statement that the cost of the Shaktipeeth expressway has gone up to Rs1,06,000 crore.
