Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Will Move to Dismiss Justin Baldoni's Lawsuit

Yahoo30-01-2025

Blake Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds told a federal judge Thursday that they will seek to dismiss Justin Baldoni's defamation lawsuit.
Attorneys for the two sides are due in court Monday for the first hearing on the megafeud between the two 'It Ends With Us' co-stars.

Lively has accused Baldoni, who was also the film's director, of sexually harassing her on set, and then retaliating with a smear campaign when she dared to speak up about it.
Baldoni and his publicists have countered that Lively defamed them by taking text messages out of context and mischaracterizing their interactions. Baldoni also alleges that Lively and Reynolds pressured WME to drop him as a client, which WME denies.
The couple's attorneys filed the notice Thursday in compliance with Judge Lewis Liman's order, which set out how the federal case will move forward. The judge asked for a letter that would 'indicate in one sentence the Defendant's intent to make a motion to dismiss.'
Liman will set a deadline later to actually file the motion.
'The Lively-Reynolds Parties intend to move to dismiss Plaintiffs' complaint,' said Michael J. Gottlieb, following the judge's instruction to keep it short and sweet.
Publicist Leslie Sloane, who was also named as a defendant in Baldoni's suit, filed a similar notice on Wednesday.
The judge has said he expects to schedule a trial for March 2026, and asked the parties to file a plan that would allow for a trial by that date.
In a rare moment of agreement, attorneys on both sides have also indicated they have no objection to consolidating the two federal cases into one proceeding.
At the hearing on Monday, the two sides are expected to argue about the extrajudicial conduct of Baldoni's lawyer, Bryan Freedman. Lively's lawyers have argued that Freedman is making prejudicial comments in the press, which they say taints the jury pool. Freedman has countered that he has every right to defend his client publicly from Lively's media blitz.

Netflix reveals details about Lady Gaga on 'Wednesday,' 'Squid Game' and 'Stranger Things' finales

INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- Netflix flexed its Hollywood star power with a live event where it unveiled details about its upcoming slate of streaming offerings, including Lady Gaga being cast as a teacher on 'Wednesday," and release dates for the final episodes of hits 'Squid Game' and 'Stranger Things.' The streaming giant assembled actors including Jenna Ortega, Oscar Isaac, Lee Jung-jae, Drew Starkey, Sofia Carson, Kerry Washington, Steven Yeun, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck for its annual Tudum event Saturday in Inglewood, Calif. Musical performances bookended the show, with Hanumankind opening with 'Run It Up' and Gaga closing with a medley and the announcement of her latest acting gig. The event is named 'Tudum' after the audio cue that accompanies the Netflix's N logo in its trailers and at the start of its programming. A bloody trailer for the final season of 'Squid Game' accompanied the announcement that the show's third season will begin streaming June 27. The South Korean series about a brutal competition where adults face death while playing children's games was one of the pandemic's breakout hits and made an international star of Lee Jung-jae, who became the first Asian man to win an Emmy for best drama actor. The fifth and final season of 'Stranger Things' will be parceled out over the winter holidays, with four episodes dropping Nov. 26, three more on Christmas Day and the series finale premiering New Year's Eve. A new trailer highlights the history of the Duffer brothers' nostalgia-soaked sci-fi, which over the past nine years has made stars out of Millie Bobby Brown, Sadie Sink, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour and Finn Wolfhard. The trailer teases a final confrontation with Vecna, concluding with Noah Schnapp's Will Byers' character yelling 'RUN!' Netflix unveiled the first six minutes of the second season of 'Wednesday,' featuring Ortega's Wednesday Addams getting a helping hand from Thing as she confronts a serial killer played by Haley Joel Osment. Gaga's first acting gig since last year's 'Joker: Folie a Deux' will be playing teacher Rosaline Rotwood at Addams' school Nevermore. The first part of 'Wednesday' season 2 lands on Aug. 6, and the second half will be released Sept. 3.

Everything to Know About Wednesday's Season 2 on Netflix: From Story Lines to Returning Cast Members

Netflix's Wednesday introduced viewers to a new version of Wednesday Addams — and her story is only getting started. The series, which premiered in November 2022, explores the iconic character (Jenna Ortega) as she attempts to master her psychic powers at Nevermore Academy while dealing with a killing spree at the hands of a mysterious monster. The series also starred Christina Ricci, who famously rose to stardom playing Wednesday in the '90s films The Addams Family and Addams Family Values. Her character, Marilyn Thornhill, was revealed to be one of the season's villains, Laurel Gates, who sought revenge against Nevermore Academy for her family's failed attempts to take down outcasts Following season 1's premiere, creators Miles Millar and Alfred Gough opened up about how they mapped out the rest of the series. "For us, it's always looking at the future, and when we sit down to create a show, it's looking at multiple seasons, ideally," they explained to Variety. The pair also addressed the overwhelming support from new and old fans, saying, "That's never expected, but that's the anticipation that hopefully the show is successful. So you always lay out at least three or four seasons' worth of potential storylines for the characters. It can evolve and change. We certainly have a pretty clear runway of what we want to do in future seasons." Scroll down for everything we know about Wednesday's second season:
