OPEN// PM: Sisi warned early of regional war risk

Middle East20 hours ago

CAIRO, June 18 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said President Abdel Fattah El Sisi warned early that the conflict in the region could escalate into a wider war involving multiple parties.
In press statements after the weekly cabinet meeting, Madbouli stated that the current regional escalation and the war in Gaza pose serious threats to regional and global stability.
Without a just and lasting resolution, specifically a two-state solution recognizing Palestinian rights, the risk of dangerous consequences would grow, he warned.
Once the war erupted, Egypt responded immediately by holding an emergency meeting to secure national needs and later formed a crisis committee chaired by the Prime Minister. The committee continues to monitor developments and plans for potential scenarios.
Madbouli confirmed Egypt has a strategic reserve of essential goods, including wheat, covering more than six months. He said the government now focuses on securing the needs of the domestic market and protecting the economy from the effects of prolonged conflict. (MORE)

Japan Deploys Aircraft in Eastern Africa for Potential Evacuation

Israa Farhan Japan has announced the deployment of two Self-Defense Forces (SDF) transport aircraft to eastern Africa in preparation for a potential evacuation of Japanese nationals from the Middle East, as regional tensions surge between Iran and Israel. Defense Minister Gen Nakatani confirmed on Thursday that two C-2 transport planes, accompanied by around 120 personnel, will be dispatched to the SDF's operational base in Djibouti. The move follows a formal request from Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya and comes amid mounting fears of wider conflict across the region. The aircraft are scheduled to depart Japan on Saturday, according to officials familiar with the matter. Minister Nakatani emphasized that the government remains in the preparatory phase and no evacuation has yet been ordered. As part of the preliminary measures, approximately 10 SDF members have already been deployed to the Middle East to collect on-the-ground intelligence. Authorities are also working to identify how many of the roughly 280 Japanese nationals in Iran and 1,000 in Israel wish to be repatriated. In parallel to the aircraft mobilisation, Japan has begun ground evacuations, transporting its citizens and their families from Tehran to Azerbaijan and from Tel Aviv to Jordan by bus. These measures were taken in response to the closure of major airports in both countries due to the intensifying conflict. The situation in the region deteriorated further following Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear and military infrastructure, including reported hits on facilities in Arak. Tehran responded with missile attacks, one of which reportedly struck a hospital in southern Israel. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand
