AAIB, MSMEDA sign EGP 150m agreement to boost Egypt's SME industrial sector

The Arab African International Bank (AAIB) has signed a new financing agreement with the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA), securing EGP 150m to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Egypt's industrial and production sectors.
Tamer Wahid, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of AAIB, emphasized the bank's longstanding commitment to empowering SMEs, noting that AAIB's SME financing portfolio has now surpassed EGP 10bn—a nearly 400% increase. The number of clients served in this segment has exceeded 800.
Wahid highlighted the bank's strategic focus on supporting industrial projects that contribute to national development, as well as expanding services for exporters. 'This agreement reflects our continued dedication to strengthening our role in SME financing. We believe in the sector's central role in driving economic development and achieving sustainable growth,' he stated.
He added that AAIB is focused on delivering innovative financial products and advanced technological solutions tailored to the evolving needs of SMEs, in line with ongoing digital transformation in the financial sector. 'We aim to collaborate with our partners to offer competitive financing opportunities that accelerate SME growth.'
Under the agreement, AAIB will re-lend the funds to eligible SMEs across all Egyptian governorates, with a particular focus on new ventures and women-led projects. Small enterprises will be eligible for financing up to EGP 15m, while medium-sized enterprises can access up to EGP 30m. The loans will be used primarily for purchasing new machinery and supporting working capital.
This strategic partnership between AAIB and MSMEDA underscores the importance of public-private collaboration in advancing Egypt's economic development and fostering sustainable growth through SME empowerment.
Basil Rahmy, CEO of MSMEDA, affirmed the agency's commitment to working closely with major financial institutions to provide comprehensive support to entrepreneurs in the industrial and productive sectors. He noted that this partnership aligns with the government's strategic direction and the directives of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly—who also chairs MSMEDA—to create a business-friendly environment for SME growth.
'Our aim is to help enterprises expand, increase production, and generate sustainable job opportunities for youth and graduates,' Rahmy said. 'We are actively working to expand MSMEDA's financing footprint across micro, small, and medium enterprises, including support for innovative and technology-driven projects.'
Rahmy added that this includes both direct financing and coordinated efforts with banks, NGOs, and various partners, as well as investment in companies founded or backed by MSMEDA. These efforts form part of the agency's broader role in improving Egypt's investment climate and fostering a culture of entrepreneurship, innovation, and self-employment.

Labour Min. Meets President of World Employment Confederation to Activate Cooperation in Common Areas

Taarek Refaat Minister of Labour Mohamed Gebran met, at the Egyptian mission headquarters, with Bettina Schaller, President of the World Employment Confederation (WEC), and her accompanying delegation to discuss areas of cooperation between the ministry and the confederation in common areas. This came on the sidelines of his participation in the 113th Session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva. The two sides agreed to form a joint committee to review and study the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two parties, as the Minister affirmed the Egyptian state's readiness to provide skilled and trained Egyptian workers. He pointed to the ministry's ongoing development of the vocational training system in cooperation with the private sector to qualify young people for professions needed by the Labour market at home and abroad, after granting them professional practice certificates and measuring their actual skills. He also noted that the Ministry is ready to respond to job applications using international skills. Gebran reviewed some of the measures related to employment and recruitment, including the ongoing preparations for issuing the National Employment Strategy, as well as the establishment of the Supreme Council for Planning and Employment of the Workforce to engage the government, employers, and workers in formulating general employment policy. This council will link employment to the needs of the Labour market at home and abroad, and ensure that work is compatible with the worker's experience, skills, or academic qualifications by assessing their skill level and granting them a license to practice the profession. The minister emphasized that the state should not monopolize employment and licensing agencies to conduct employment operations at home and abroad, while establishing the necessary controls to supervise and monitor them. He pointed out that employment agencies should also be encouraged to open new Labour markets abroad. The new Labour Law specifies the cases in which a company's license may be revoked, leaving this to ministerial decisions. This provides protection, guarantees, and security for companies in their work, while ensuring their compliance with the law. It also regulates electronic recruitment processes to ensure their seriousness and establishes reliable databases of their results. On her part, Schaller provided an explanation of the capabilities and services of the World Employment Confederation. She praised the Ministry of Labour's efforts in the vocational training and qualification system for youth in the Labour Market. She also stated that the Egyptian Labour market is extremely promising, given the size of its workforce, particularly among youth. Finally, the WEC president pointed out that the components of the Labour market in Egypt are ready to embrace changes in the world of employment and that it is attractive to investment and has all the elements for success, which explains why international companies are investing in it. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream

He emphasized that 5G represents more than just an improvement in speed, but rather a qualitative leap in smart services in the fields of health, agriculture, transportation, and industry. During his official speech, the Minister explained that the state began 2024 by issuing the first 5G license, followed by granting licenses to all mobile companies operating in the Egyptian market, reflecting the state's commitment to expanding digital services. He pointed out that mobile companies have invested more than $2.7 billion in infrastructure and frequencies since 2019, reflecting the confidence of local and international investors in the Egyptian telecommunications sector. French Cargo Giant 'CMA CGM' Resumes Services via Suez Canal by Mid-June

Taarek Refaat French shipping giant CMA CGM remains the only major global operator that has resumed its services via the Suez Canal. As of mid-June, CMA CGM plans to restart the Med Express (MEDEX) service via the Suez Canal, with the support of the French Navy. While the Asia-Europe trade line continues to grow, it is not the fastest growing, over the past 12 months, and services linked to Latin America have recorded the greatest growth, with the size of the fleet operating in Latin American services now quite similar to the capacity of all ships serving the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent. The Red Sea shipping crisis and the need to take a much longer route through the Cape of Good Hope has raised the total cargo vessels there from a fifth to a quarter, according to a new study by Alfaliner. In just two years, carriers have added 2.26 million TEUs equivalent to 20 feet of additional capacity on the Asia-Europe trade corridor, bringing the total fleet on this route to 7.8 million TEUs. With 24.4% of the world's fleet now trading on this route, which is the largest shipping lane for the shipping fleet, according to Alvaliner data and two years ago, the ratio was 20.8%. When container ships change their route from the Suez Canal to cross the Cape of Good Hope, the trade route between Asia and Europe becomes longer by about 3,500 to 4,500 nautical miles (6,500 to 8,300 kilometers), depending on the ports of origin and destination, and this transfer usually adds 10 to 14 days to transit times, depending on the speed of the ship. Although US President Donald Trump last month said that more than 17 months later, the Red Sea shipping crisis, triggered by the Houthis, is coming to an end, most shipping companies questioned in recent quarterly results have insisted that it is still too early to resume Red Sea crossings. For example, Maersk CEO Vincent Klerk said it would be "irresponsible" to resume Red Sea crossings based on an unclear ceasefire agreement, warning that the area remains too volatile to be returned safely. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream
