Shakib cleared to bowl again
Bangladesh's veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has finally been cleared of a suspect bowling action after months of scrutiny and uncertainty. The 37-year-old had previously failed two reassessments, but his latest test results confirm that he has now successfully rectified his action.
This development comes as a major relief for Shakib, who was left out of Bangladesh's Champions Trophy squad because selectors were unwilling to include him solely as a specialist batter.
His suspension from bowling had ruled him out of the ICC event, which he had considered a potential farewell tournament in international cricket.
The phrase "third time lucky" proved true for Shakib, who cleared his latest bowling action test in England. Speaking to a local sports platform, the former captain confirmed the news with evident joy.
"The news is right (about passing the bowling test), and I am cleared to bowl again," Shakib said.
Shakib's bowling action first came under scrutiny during a County Championship match for Surrey against Somerset in September 2024.
Subsequently, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) suspended him after an independent evaluation deemed his action illegal.
Following the suspension, Shakib underwent two separate reassessmentsfirst in England and then in Indiafailing both attempts before finally receiving clearance in his latest test.
It is important to note that Shakib's troubles began in September 2024, when he played for Surrey in the County Championship against Somerset. After the match, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) tested his action and found that his elbow extension was exceeding the allowed 15-degree limit. As a result, he was banned from bowling in England.
The 37-year-old all rounder then failed a second test in January, which meant he couldn't bowl in any domestic or international matches.
Meanwhile, Shakib hasn't played since the Abu Dhabi T10 in November 2024. With no contracts in IPL or PSL, his next chance to return to action could be Bangladesh's upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka.

'When you get 190 on the board, you can go out there and simplify everything. You can bowl defensively and they've got to come to you. Tonight, it worked. Salman Agha tipped to become Pakistan's all-format captain
Salman Agha is all set to become Pakistan's all-format national cricket team skipper after impressing selectors and new white-ball head coach Mike Hesson, sources told The 31-year-old was appointed Twenty20 international skipper for the Zimbabwe leg of the tour to give regular skipper Mohammad Rizwan rest but Salman has impressed with his clarity of thoughts and resolve in the short period. "Salman has been impressive in the opinions of the selection committee, new head coach Hesson and, above all, the chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board Mohsin Naqvi. All are on the same page that he should be the all-format captain," said the sources. A decision is likely to be announced after the Eid holidays. The decision means ODI skipper Mohammad Rizwan has lost favours with the PCB and the selection committee in which the strongest influence is that of Aaqib Javed, added sources. Rizwan was at the loggerheads with Aaqib on the tour of New Zealand where Pakistan lost the ODI series. Rizwan publically criticised lack of authority as skipper in matters of selection on the New Zealand tour. Pakistan lost the ODI series in New Zealand 3-0 which came on the back of a disastrous Champions Trophy 2025 tournament at home where the team crashed out in the first round. Test skipper Shan Masood was also tipped to be sacked after Pakistan lost nine out of 12 Tests under his captaincy since December 2023. Masood's worst phase was a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Bangladesh, Pakistan's first loss against the lowly ranked team. Pakistan also drew a relatively easier series against the West Indies 1-1 last year. That defeat left Pakistan on the ninth and last position of the World Test Championship's third cycle. They finished fifth and seventh in the first two WTC cycles. "Masood's captaincy was unimpressive and timid, so he was destined to lose captaincy. Moreover, Masood's own performance was poor so Salman will also take over from him," the sources said. Pakistan's next tour is of Bangladesh for a three-match T20I series with matches on July 20, 22 and 24. Pakistan then play five T20Is against the West Indies in USA and the Caribbean. As for the Tests, Pakistan hosts South Africa for a two-match Test series in October. Australia's Starc comfortable with IPL pullout regardless of repercussion
MELBOURNE: Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc is comfortable with his decision to leave the Indian Premier League (IPL) following the India-Pakistan clashes last month regardless of any repercussions, the 35-year-old said. The IPL was suspended on May 9 in the wake of hostilities between the two. It resumed on May 17 after the nuclear-armed neighbours agreed to a ceasefire. While most IPL foreign recruits returned to complete their franchise commitment, the Delhi Capitals duo of Starc and fellow Australian Jake Fraser-McGurk took no further part in the 10-team league. 'I'm comfortable with my decision and how I felt about the whole situation and how it was handled,' Starc told the Sydney Morning Herald on Friday. 'Time will tell with repercussions or how it looks with guys that didn't return. But I've had my questions and concerns leading into that game, and obviously we saw what happened, which played a part in my decision.' Starc was in Dharamsala, near the Pakistan border, for Delhi's May 9 match against the Punjab Kings. The contest was abandoned midway through, although league organisers blamed it on a floodlights failure. 'Jake and I chose not to (return). So it was a very individual decision, and I'm happy to live with whatever comes of that,' Starc said. He opted out of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan earlier this year citing personal reasons and has skipped the IPL more than once to preserve himself for international cricket.
