2024 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid Long Term Update: Luxury on a Budget?
Hyundai offering a luxury trim might seem a little incongruous considering the same company has a legitimate luxury brand known as Genesis. However, Hyundai isn't alone in this. Think about the Chevy Tahoe and its High Country trim, which offers a ton of luxury features even though the mechanically similar Cadillac Escalade exists. It's because the brands appeal to different kinds of buyers, and along the same lines, some Hyundai shoppers would never think of shopping at a Genesis store. It also lets those who have fallen in love with the Santa Fe's blocky styling get a few extra bells and whistles.
What does the Calligraphy add?
Our Santa Fe cost us $51,425 with the $1,415 destination charge included, with the only options being the $1,000 matte-finish paint job and $210 carpeted floor mats. Opting for the Calligraphy gets you Nappa leather seats, which are softer than the regular leather you get in a Santa Fe Limited, and they feature eight-way adjustability for the passenger. There's also a "relaxation" setting for the driver and front passenger, which reclines and adjusts the seat into an optimal napping position when you're parked. You also get two wireless charging pads instead of one, a head-up display on the windshield, two-tone leather on the steering wheel, a faux suede headliner, and a more advanced driver assist system. In the rear, the second row gets a pair of ultra-comfy captain's chairs instead of the three-across bench in the rest of the lineup.

This Might Be Nissan's New Sedan Before You're Supposed to See It
Update: This story has been updated with more information regarding Nissan's EV concept in China. Nissan has a massive product onslaught planned over the next few years. Alongside the latest Kicks and the updated Murano SUVs, the Japanese automaker has a new Leaf coming to the US as early as next year. But if these patent filings are any indication, there could be even more products on the horizon—and soon. Nissan recently filed a patent with the World Intellectual Property Organization, as uncovered by Top Gear Philippines . The patent was filed in China on September 14 of last year and officially registered on May 9, 2025. It shows an updated Nissan sedan with the brand's latest design language. Nissan Patent Images Photo by: WIPO It's unclear whether these images show a new Sentra, Altima, Maxima, or something different entirely. The photos look nearly identical to the Evo concept from earlier last year, though they weren't officially filed until after that concept debuted. It could potentially be a production version of that vehicle. The patent also bears a similar resemblance to the Chinese Nissan N7 , but that sedan is larger and has more distinct cues. If this is a US-bound model, our best guess would be all-new Sentra or a revived Altima, which may be discontinued in the US after this year. The front fascia bears the automaker's new angular headlight treatment, which we've seen on the upcoming Leaf and a few of Nissan's previous concepts. The back end, meanwhile, has a slim light bar that encircles the trunk lid and stretches out to the rear bumper on either side. The profile almost makes it look like a fastback, which leads us to believe this is a mid-size sedan as opposed to a compact. We've seen spy photos of Nissan testing a sedan prototype in Michigan that looks nearly identical to the patent images pictured here. But even in those spy photos, it's difficult to tell if the car in question is the smaller Sentra or the mid-size Altima. Our best guess is a new hybrid system, potentially the turbocharged 1.5-liter hybrid unit from the plug-in-hybrid Frontier —which won't come to the US. That powertrain delivers 402 horsepower in the plug-in truck, but a detuned version of that could make sense in the smaller Sentra or Altima sedans. If this is indeed a new Sentra, don't expect to see a production version before 2027. The current model is still on sale in the US, and it likely won't change for 2026. With the Altima rumored to be discontinued after this year, we could see a new version of that sedan before the end of 2025. If we're lucky. Woman Gets Into Her Kia. Then Out of Nowhere, Her Screen Starts Smoking
Kia makes some excellent cars, but it's also had its fair share of quality issues, as Kelley Blue Book reports. To add another jab, the South Korean auto giant recently went viral for all the wrong reasons. In a TikTok video with more than 1.2 million views, West Virginia mom and lifestyle creator Heather ( @aultheather ) reveals how her Kia Telluride dashboard started smoking moments after starting her car. So What Exactly Happened With This Kia Telluride? In her clip, Heather showcases a shocking situation unfolding right before her eyes in the middle of her driveway. While parked, Heather rolled up her windows only to find smoke coming out of her dashboard. Frazzled, Heather turned her car on. The smoke continued to spread. As she frantically started the Telluride, her kid walked near her vehicle. Luckily, the car didn't catch on fire, and the child was safe. 'For anyone I've ever told to buy a Kia Telluride, I take it back,' Heather stated. In a follow-up TikTok , Heather provides an update after getting the car towed back to Kia. The Kia representative shared that the infotainment system shorted out, which caused the smoke. After inspection, the Kia dealership couldn't figure out the cause of the smoke, but informed Heather they will replace the entire infotainment system, she said. The system in her car that caught smoke is getting sent back to Kia for future diagnostics review, she added. She mentioned how she recently learned about all the recalls Kia has issued, and is willing to be patient with her car repair now that she has an understanding of what's going on. 'Infotainment screens are flashy tech that distracts consumers so they don't pay attention or notice poor quality,' one TikTok commenter shared. Indeed, car touchscreens have come under fire lately for safety concerns such as distracted driving . What Other Recalls Has Kia Issued? Kia has recently issued recalls for potential fire risks , airbag malfunctions , and parking light issues in the last two years. The most relevant recall to this Kia Telluride smoking dashboard situation was the fire risk issued in 2024. Kia issued a 'park outside' recall for Kia Tellurides produced between 2020-2024 for fire risk, affecting more than 460,000 units. The cars had the potential to catch fire both while driving or parked. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation , the fires caused by the front power seat motor on the affected vehicles could overheat because of a stuck power seat slide knob, potentially resulting in a fire and increasing the risk of injury. What did the viewers think about this Kia Telluride? 'Just turn the radio up higher. That's what I do for anything suspicious,' one viewer joked. 'That was the sauna feature, no worries,' one added. 'These young cars these days, picking up bad habits like smoking,' another wrote. This TikTok has more than 23,800 likes. China OKs Rare Earth Exports to US Carmakers, Reuters Says
China has approved temporary export licenses to rare-earth suppliers of the top US automakers, Reuters reported on Friday, citing unidentified people familiar with the matter. It's unclear what materials are covered by the licenses and at least some are valid for six months, Reuters said. China's restrictions on exports of rare earths, the dormant source of the materials, pose risks to global automakers' supply chains.
