"Way double-engine govt has started working in Delhi is commendable": CM Rekha Gupta
New Delhi [India], June 16 (ANI): Stressing that there will be more progress in the national capital in the coming days, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Monday said that the Centre has supported the Delhi government in building world-class infrastructure in the city, further adding that the Central government is working 'shoulder to shoulder' with her administration.
Delhi CM Gupta, along with Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, inaugurated an exhibition highlighting 11 years of the NDA government and 100 days of the current Delhi government.
Speaking to the media, CM Gupta said, 'Today, I am very happy that the Central Government has completed 11 years and the Delhi Government has completed 100 days, and the way the double-engine government has started working in Delhi is commendable. The Centre has always worked a lot for Delhi, but unfortunately, the previous government neither recognised their efforts nor gave them credit.'
'However, today, when we look at the progress, we have received significant support from the Centre in building world-class infrastructure in Delhi. Through roadways alone, we received support worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore. Similarly, major schemes like Ayushman Bharat, which were previously not implemented here, have now been supported by the Centre. We have opened Arogya Mandirs (health centres). In every project, the Centre is working shoulder to shoulder with Delhi,' Rekha Gupta added.
Drawing a comparison with the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, the Delhi CM said that the difference now is that no one is blaming each other anymore, and everything seems more organised.
'In Delhi, whatever targets we have taken up, be it air pollution, cleaning the Yamuna, tackling garbage mountains, or improving water and electricity, there will be more progress and better work done on all fronts,' she emphasised.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, speaking on the occasion, said that the 'triple-engine' government --at the Centre, in Delhi, and in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) --is now well-positioned to deliver on promises of development.
'I've seen Delhi evolve since just after partition, when the city's population was around 11-12 lakh. After successive waves of migration, the population has now crossed over 2 crore. You can see the results of the triple-engine government we now have--at the Centre, in Delhi, and in the MCD. With PM Modi's 11 years of governance and the support of local bodies, we have no excuses left. We must now deliver on the promises of development and ensure Delhi gets what it rightfully deserves. When PM Modi took charge in 2014, India's GDP was 2 trillion dollars. Today, it has reached 4 trillion dollars,' he said.
Earlier on Sunday, Rekha Gupta expressed confidence that the Haryana government would continue extending full cooperation in the development of the national capital.
Speaking to mediapersons in Haryana's Karnal, CM Gupta said, '... I believe that Delhi will keep getting full cooperation from the state of Haryana... Some forces are acting like an eclipse on the state of Punjab, which is why neither Punjab is able to develop nor maintain proper coordination with other states.'
Chief Minister Gupta chaired a high-level meeting on Saturday to strengthen the city's real estate system and make it more transparent, efficient, and development-focused, according to an official statement. (ANI)

India in touch with students in Iran to ensure their safety, says MEA
Amid the Iran-Israel conflict, the Centre on Monday said the Indian Embassy in Tehran was continuously monitoring the security situation and engaging Indian students in Iran to ensure their safety while also relocating them to safer places in some cases. The Ministry of External Affairs' statement read, 'The Indian Embassy in Tehran is continuously monitoring the security situation and engaging Indian students in Iran to ensure their safety.' The statement continued, 'In some cases, students are being relocated with Embassy's facilitation to safer places within Iran. Other feasible options are also under examination. Further updates will follow. Separately, the Embassy is in touch with community leaders regarding welfare and safety.' The Indian embassies in Israel and Iran have issued advisories on their X handles in view of the situation. 'In view of the current situation in Iran, all Indian nationals & persons of Indian origin in Iran are requested to remain vigilant, avoid all unnecessary movements, follow the Embassy's Social Media accounts & observe safety protocols as advised by local authorities,' the Indian Embassy in Iran's post on X read. Meanwhile, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday asked the MEA to take immediate steps to ensure the safe return of Indian students stranded in Iran. Hundreds of Kashmiri students, enrolled in various universities for professional courses in Iran, are stranded due to the escalated tensions with Israel. The families of the students have appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take steps for their safe evacuation just like the government did at the time of the Russia-Ukraine War. 'If Indian students were evacuated from Ukraine within days during the war, why are our children not being rescued from Iran? They are also Indian citizens,' a worried parent said.

HC junks BRS MLA Kaushik Reddy's plea to quash extortion case
Hyderabad: The Telangana high court on Monday dismissed the quash plea filed by BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy in an alleged extortion case . Kaushik Reddy moved an anticipatory bail plea before the high court immediately after his quash plea was dismissed. The case was filed by the wife of a granite businessman, who alleged that citing public outcry over his granite quarries, the legislator had extorted Rs 25 lakh and was seeking Rs 50 lakh more. The prosecution placed evidence before the court about the threatening calls from the legislator to the businessman. Police produced witness statements of the drivers and others to prove their charge of extortion. Though the counsel for the legislator argued that he was calling the businessman to inform him about the grievance of the people, Justice K Lakshman sought to know if that was the job of a legislator. "He should have asked the relevant authorities to verify and act. Instead, he made direct calls to the businessman," the judge said while dismissing Kaushik Reddy's plea.

Kandhamal residents move PM for railway station at Madhapur
Bhubaneswar: Civil society members and traders of Kandhamal district have moved Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a railway station at Madhapur in Boudh district on the Khurda Road-Balangir new line for better connectivity. There is no railway connectivity to Kandhamal at present and residents want a station at least close to the district's border. If a station is constructed at Madhapur, passengers can travel around 37 km from Kandhamal district headquarters town, Phulbani, to catch a train to Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and western Odisha towns, they said. Kandhamal Jagaran Manch, a civil society organisation, which wrote to the PM on Saturday, circulated the letter to the media on Monday. "Madhapur is situated between Adenigarh and Banigochha stations on the Khurda Road-Balangir new line project. It is under construction now. I hope the govt will listen to our demand," said manch president Seshadev Jani. He said people from Phulbani travel 200 km to reach Bhubaneswar, and a passenger has to shell out around Rs 400 as bus fare. "It is costly for a tribal man travelling for official or medical purposes. Rail connectivity will make the journey affordable for most people," said Jani. Phulbani market association president Ashok Kumar Patnaik said Madhapur is a junction for people coming from districts like Kandhamal, Boudh and Nayagarh. "The proposed station can be accessed by people from Kandhamal without changing buses or minibuses for Adenigarh or Banigochha," he added. East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources said Madhapur is located 6 km from Adenigarh and 8 km from Banigochha stations. Out of the 301-km project length, construction of 106 km of lines has been completed from Khurda Road to Daspalla and 120 km from Balangir to Purunakatak. Work on the remaining 75-km section from Purunakatak to Adenigarh is underway, official sources said.
