Pfizer share price up 3% on rolling out this vaccine; key details inside

Pfizer share price: Pharmaceutical company Pfizer shares were in focus on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, with the stock rising up to 2.92 per cent to an intraday high of ₹5,188 per share.
At 9:45 AM, Pfizer shares were trading 2.66 per cent higher at ₹5,175 per share. By comparison, BSE Sensex was trading 0.25 per cent higher at 80,802.18 levels.
Why did Pfizer share price rise today?
Pfizer's share price gained today after the company announced the launch of its next-generation 20-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV20) for adults in India. Offering broader serotype coverage, the vaccine represents a major step forward in protecting against pneumococcal disease.
PCV20 provides immunity against 20 clinically major serotypes that cause the majority of invasive and non-invasive pneumococcal infections.
Meenakshi Nevatia, managing director, Pfizer India, said, 'We are excited to launch PCV20, our 20-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, in India. We believe this vaccine, with its broad coverage of 20 pneumococcal disease serotypes, will address the increasing need for adult immunisation in our country.'
Additionally, it will be available as a single-dose vaccine, potentially eliminating the need for a second shot, and is suitable for all adults, including those with chronic health conditions, the company revealed, in a statement.
Adults over 50, along with individuals suffering from comorbidities such as asthma, COPD, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes, are at higher risk of contracting pneumococcal infections, which can lead to serious complications, hospitalisations, or death. Timely immunisation is considered crucial to lowering these risks.
Pneumococcal conjugate vaccines are among the most effective public health measures for reducing the incidence and severity of pneumococcal disease. The launch of PCV20 in India reinforces Pfizer's 25-year track record in pneumococcal vaccine innovation and its ongoing commitment to preventive healthcare.

India, China Border Trade Back On The Table As Wang Yi, Modi Prepare For Crucial Talks

/ Aug 14, 2025, 10:05PM IST India and China are moving towards a potential diplomatic reset as New Delhi confirms it is in talks to revive border trade through the Lipulekh, Shipki La, and Nathu La passes, routes sealed since COVID-19 and the bloody Galwan clashes. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal says discussions are ongoing, with more announcements expected soon. In a significant signal from Beijing, Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit New Delhi on August 18 for the first time in over three years, meeting NSA Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. The talks could pave the way for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first trip to China in seven years to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin on August 31-September 1, where a high-stakes meeting with President Xi Jinping is on the cards. With US President Donald Trump's aggressive trade shake-up redrawing global alliances, an India-China thaw could redefine Asia's strategic and economic balance.#india #china #jaishankar #pmmodi #xijinping #wangyi #randhirjaiswal #indiachinarelations #bordertrade #modiinchina #galwan #indiachinatalks #sco2025 #shipkila #lipulekh #nathula #indiandiplomacy #indiaforeignpolicy #breakingnews #trending #trendingnow #toi #bharat #toibharat #indianews

China shares BIG update on direct flights resumption with India, says ‘For some time…'

China on Thursday confirmed that it has been in 'close communication' with India to resume direct flights between the two countries, signalling a possible end to a five-year suspension of air connectivity. China Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, responding to questions about recent media reports, said both sides have been working 'for some time' to facilitate the 'early resumption' of flights. The announcement comes amid speculation that an official confirmation could coincide with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin from 31 August to 1 September. Until early 2020, state-owned carriers such as China Eastern Airlines and Air China operated daily routes to several Indian cities, including New Delhi. Services were halted following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and have remained suspended amid deteriorating bilateral relations after the military standoff in Eastern Ladakh later that year. Hopes of a breakthrough grew after Indian Consul General in Shanghai, Pratik Mathur, met with senior executives of China Eastern Airlines on Thursday. A post by the Indian Consulate on X said the meeting discussed 'growth opportunities' in civil aviation and hospitality. Travel industry stakeholders in Shanghai have reportedly expressed strong interest in restoring air links. Lin said the resumption of flights would 'facilitate cross-border travel, exchanges and cooperation' between the two nations, whose combined population exceeds 2.8 billion. There is also speculation that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi could visit India on 18 August for Special Representatives-level talks on the boundary dispute with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Lin declined to confirm the visit, saying details would be released 'in due course.' The two officials last met in December 2024 in China, shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping agreed in Kazan to revive suspended dialogue mechanisms. Lin described both countries as 'major developing nations and important members of the Global South,' adding that 'a cooperative pas de deux of the dragon and the elephant as partners helping each other succeed is the right choice for both sides.' He stressed the importance of increasing political trust, expanding cooperation, and working together at multilateral forums such as the SCO.
