On3 analyst includes Oklahoma Sooners in preseason power rankings
Another notable college football analyst released his preseason Top 25 on Wednesday. J.D. PicKell's rankings also included the Sooners, as they were slotted in at 16th, right between two teams from the Big Ten. OU was one spot below Illinois and one spot above Michigan, who they'll welcome to Norman on September 6th in Week 2.
PicKell hosts "The Hard Count with J.D. PicKell", and he had Oklahoma as the eighth out of 10 total SEC teams within his Top 25. Texas (No. 1), LSU (No. 7), Georgia (No. 8), Alabama (No. 9), Texas A&M (No. 10), South Carolina (No. 11), Florida (No. 13), Tennessee (No. 18), and Ole Miss (No. 20) were the other SEC teams that made the cut.
The Sooners will play a ridiculous seven games against teams PicKell has in the top 25, with six of those games coming against SEC foes. Only OU's games against Auburn and Missouri are against SEC teams that PicKell didn't include in his list.
PicKell is one of a handful of analysts who have been high on OU this offseason and he believes they can be much improved this year. Head coach Brent Venables brought in OC Ben Arbuckle, QB John Mateer and RB Jaydn Ott to help jumpstart the offense, and the program hired GM Jim Nagy this winter. Player retention from both the transfer portal and the NFL Draft, especially on defense, was fairly solid over the offseason, and the program believes the pieces are in place for a narrative-changing season in 2025.
The Sooners will begin the season at home against Illinois State on August 30th at 5:00 p.m.

Oregon Ducks have three of top 100-ranked players in college football for 2025 season
In the same week that a trio of Oregon Ducks were named 2025 AP Preseason All-Americans, those same three players have been named to ESPN's top 100 players in college football prior to the 2025 season. Safety Dillon Thieneman was the first Duck to appear on the list at No. 44. The former Purdue Boilermaker was one of the team's lone standouts, finishing with a team-leading 104 total tackles (70 solo) and six passes defensed. Next was running back Makai Hughes, who also transferred to join Oregon's program this offseason. Coming in at No. 30 on the list, Hughes established himself as one of the top running backs in the country during his two seasons at Tulane — regardless of conference. "Hughes rushed for 2,779 yards combined the past two seasons, more than any other returning back in college football," ESPN's Jake Trotter wrote. "Hughes should bring a level of physicality to the Oregon offense; he broke 38 tackles last season, tied with North Carolina's Omarion Hampton for fifth most in the nation." Tops on the list for the Ducks is defensive end Matayo Uiagalelei, who's ranked as the 20th best player in college football. It should come as no surprise, as he was an All-Big Ten selection as a sophomore and notched 10.5 sacks in the regular season. That led the conference. "The Ducks lost several key players off last season's defense, including tackle Derrick Harmon, a first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers," Trotter wrote. "But Uiagalelei is a big reason the Ducks could be just as disruptive up front after ranking third in the Big Ten with 40 sacks in 2024." With less than two weeks to go before Oregon kicks off their season against Montana State, the preseason accolades continue to roll in for the Ducks' trio of stars. College football writer predicts Texas A&M to win double-digit games in 2025
Although the time for talking is nearing its conclusion, another college football analyst has predicted Texas A&M to win 10 regular-season contests in 2025. The Athletic college football writer Stewart Mandel recently predicted records for every program in the Southeastern Conference, while also attaching additional thoughts on the top contenders in the league this season. According to Mandel's projections, the Aggies will finish with a 10-2 (6-2 in SEC) overall record and a fourth-place finish to this year's campaign. While he is not the only media member predicting Texas A&M to finish with 10 wins for the first time since 2012, it is a testament to the true strength and depth of the roster in Bryan-College Station, Texas, this season and the potential the program has to break the glass ceiling finally. Here are Mandel's official 2025 SEC record predictions in the latest piece for The Athletic on Wednesday: It will not be an easy road for the Aggies this season, however. Entering his second year as Texas A&M's head coach, Mike Elko will lead his team against the No. 10 most-difficult schedule in college football in 2025. Road contests against Notre Dame, Arkansas, LSU and Texas will be challenging contests that will be integral in determining the success of the program this year. After finishing 2024 with an 8-5 (5-3 in SEC), Elko and company are seeking to rewrite the woes and demolish the stigma surrounding the Aggies' inability to close the season on the right foot. With some of the top-rated talent in the country wearing the Maroon and White in 2025, including linebacker Taurean York and offensive lineman Ar'maj Reed-Adams who rank in ESPN's Top 100 Players, Mandel believes that the Aggies are a true sleeper team heading into this season's ventures. "This is my SEC sleeper team. The Aggies quietly fielded the league's top scoring offense in conference play (29.4), and dynamic QB Marcel Reed figures to be more advanced. The backfield is deep, led by Le'Veon Moss. Yes, the defense has questions. But I like the Aggies to go on the road in Week 3 and upset Notre Dame." Before Texas A&M can make the trip to South Bend in a few weeks, the program must first take on UTSA on Saturday, August 30, at Kyle Field.
