CTV News26-05-2025

Police pulled over a vehicle after allegedly clocking it speeding double the posted limit in Oro-Medonte, resulting in a serious charge for the 32-year-old driver.
According to police, an officer on patrol nabbed the vehicle travelling 120 kilometres per hour in a posted 60 zone along Line 7.
Speeds of 40 kilometres or above on a road with a posted limit of 80 or less is considered stunt driving in Ontario, which carries an immediate 30-day licence suspension and a 14-day vehicle impoundment at the owner's expense.
"The driver also faces a future court date," OPP added. If convicted of stunt driving, motorists can face six demerit points, and the potential for significant increases in insurance premiums or even policy cancellation. A first offense can also result in a one to three year licence suspension, if convicted.
Motorists convicted of stunt driving, street racing, or careless driving are required to complete a mandatory driver improvement course.

Remains found at lake northeast of Halifax confirmed to be missing boater

A body located last month at a lake northeast of Halifax has been confirmed to be a boater who went missing in April. RCMP received a report on April 10 about a capsized boat on Cousins Lake. Two men had been in the four-metre boat when it struck something in the water. A 53-year-old man swam to shore and called for help at 3:25 p.m., but a search failed to find the other boater, a 58-year-old man from Truro, RCMP say. RCMP say the man's loved ones went to the lake on May 4 and found human remains, which were later confirmed by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service to be the missing boater. The man's death is not believed to be suspicious, police say.
