Drifting' stunt driver in Greater Sudbury catches police attention
In a social media post, police said the traffic unit clocked the driver at 113 km/h on Dominion Drive, where the speed limit is 60 km/h. A speeding driver in Hanmer on Thursday night drifted around a corner before being stopped by Greater Sudbury Police. An investigation found that the exhaust pipe had been modified and the validation sticker had expired. In a social media post, police said the traffic unit clocked the driver at 113 km/h on Dominion Drive, where the speed limit is 60 km/h. Police caught the drift 'The officer then witnessed the driver drift the vehicle around the corner onto Elmview Drive, where a traffic stop was conducted,' police said. 'Upon stopping the vehicle, the officer determined the temporary validation had expired in 2024 and the exhaust had been modified into a 'straight pipe.'' The driver was charged with stunt driving for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40 km/h in a zone where the limit is less than 80 km/h. Another charge was laid for performing a stunt by causing the tire to lose traction. Other charges include driving without a valid permit and having an improper muffler. Their driver's licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle has been impounded for 90 days. A court date has been set for October.

Driver's Jeep towed away after being clocked speeding nearly 50km/h over limit: OPP
A provincial police officer patrolling in Loretto over the weekend reportedly nabbed a motorist exceeding the speed limit by nearly 50 kilometres per hour, resulting in an automatic stunt driving charge. Nottawasaga OPP says the officer stopped the Jeep on Northbound County Road 50 on Sunday after clocking it speeding 106 km/h in the posted 60 km/h zone. The offence cost the 58-year-old driver his licence for 30 days and his vehicle, which was towed to an impound yard for 14 days. Any motorist caught speeding 40 km/h or more above the speed limit in an area posted less than 80 km/h receives a stunt driving charge, which can result in six demerit points and fines up to $10,000, if convicted. "Let's all do our part to keep our roads safe—slow down and drive responsibly," the OPP stated.

Young driver charged with speeding 74 km/h above the limit in Essa: OPP
An Ontario Provincial Police officer pulls over a vehicle caught speeding 154 km/h on 9th Line in Essa Township on Sun., July 20, 2025. Provincial police charged a young driver with stunt driving for reportedly speeding more than 70 kilometres per hour above the limit in Essa Township. Police say the 18-year-old motorist from Alliston was stopped on 9th Line Sunday after being caught travelling at 154 kilometres per hour in a posted 80 zone. "This kind of dangerous driving puts everyone on the road at risk," OPP stated in a social media post regarding the incident. "Please remember—speed limits are in place for a reason. Slow down and drive responsibly." If convicted, the teen motorist could face six demerit points, increased insurance rates, and a hefty fine.

Motorist nabbed speeding 116km/h in posted 60 zone slapped with stunt driving charge: OPP
Police pull over a vehicle on Sideroad 15 in Clearview Township on July 17, 2025, for allegedly speeding. Nottawasaga OPP says a vehicle caught speeding more than 50 kilometres per hour over the posted 60 limit in Clearview Township resulted in serious penalties for the driver. According to a social media post by OPP, the traffic stop was conducted on Sideroad 15 north of Highway 9 after the officer's radar device clocked the SUV speeding 116 km/h - 56 km/h above the limit. The 30-year-old driver was charged with stunt driving for the excessive speed, speeding 50+ km/h over the posted limit, and failing to provide an insurance card. "This kind of excessive speeding is extremely dangerous and puts everyone on the road at risk," OPP stated. "Please remember to slow down and drive responsibly — your safety, and the safety of others, depends on it." In Ontario, motorists caught speeding 40 km/h over the speed limit in zones below 80 km/h, or 50 km/h over the speed limit in zones of 80 km/h or more are hit with an automatic stunt driving charge. Stunt driving carries an immediate 30-day licence suspension and 14-day roadside vehicle impoundment. Stunt driving charges could also result in a criminal record.

Dump truck driver charged with stunt driving in Oro-Medonte
An OPP officer allegedly clocked a tandem dump truck speeding 106km/h on Line 7 north in Oro-Medonte, Ont., on Tues, July 15, 2025. A commercial vehicle was towed away to an impound yard where it will remain for 14 days after the driver was reportedly caught speeding 44 kilometres per hour over the posted limit in Oro-Medonte. A provincial police officer allegedly clocked the tandem dump truck traveling at a speed of 106 km/h on Line 7 north, a 60 km/h zone on Tuesday, resulting in a stunt driving charge. Police also handed the driver a 30 day licence suspension for the offence. This week marks 'Operation Safe Driver Week,' with a focus on poor driving behaviours among motorists, including commercial motor vehicle operators. The week-long safety blitz has officers targeting speeding, logbook violations, and equipment issues, like faulty brakes or unsecured loads. 'Commercial drivers: stay compliant 24/7 with inspections, hours of service and cargo rules,' OPP stated. Operation Safe Driver week runs until Sun., July 20.
