Drifting' stunt driver in Greater Sudbury catches police attention
A speeding driver in Hanmer on Thursday night drifted around a corner before being stopped by Greater Sudbury Police.
An investigation found that the exhaust pipe had been modified and the validation sticker had expired.
In a social media post, police said the traffic unit clocked the driver at 113 km/h on Dominion Drive, where the speed limit is 60 km/h.
Police caught the drift
'The officer then witnessed the driver drift the vehicle around the corner onto Elmview Drive, where a traffic stop was conducted,' police said.
'Upon stopping the vehicle, the officer determined the temporary validation had expired in 2024 and the exhaust had been modified into a 'straight pipe.''
The driver was charged with stunt driving for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40 km/h in a zone where the limit is less than 80 km/h.
Another charge was laid for performing a stunt by causing the tire to lose traction. Other charges include driving without a valid permit and having an improper muffler.
Their driver's licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle has been impounded for 90 days. A court date has been set for October.
