Drifting' stunt driver in Greater Sudbury catches police attention

In a social media post, police said the traffic unit clocked the driver at 113 km/h on Dominion Drive, where the speed limit is 60 km/h. A speeding driver in Hanmer on Thursday night drifted around a corner before being stopped by Greater Sudbury Police. An investigation found that the exhaust pipe had been modified and the validation sticker had expired. In a social media post, police said the traffic unit clocked the driver at 113 km/h on Dominion Drive, where the speed limit is 60 km/h. Police caught the drift 'The officer then witnessed the driver drift the vehicle around the corner onto Elmview Drive, where a traffic stop was conducted,' police said. 'Upon stopping the vehicle, the officer determined the temporary validation had expired in 2024 and the exhaust had been modified into a 'straight pipe.'' The driver was charged with stunt driving for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40 km/h in a zone where the limit is less than 80 km/h. Another charge was laid for performing a stunt by causing the tire to lose traction. Other charges include driving without a valid permit and having an improper muffler. Their driver's licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle has been impounded for 90 days. A court date has been set for October.

1 dead in northeast Calgary multi-vehicle collision

One person is dead and three are injured after a collision in northeast Calgary Monday morning, according to police. The crash happened at 5:14 a.m. in the 3200 block of 52 Street N.E., at the intersection with 32 Avenue N.E., police said. Police confirmed one person died of their injuries, while three have been taken to hospital in unknown condition. Both directions of 52 Street N.E. north of 32 Avenue N.E. are closed, and traffic is being diverted. Both directions of 32 Avenue N.E. remain open, police said. The Calgary Police Service traffic unit is currently investigating the incident.
