TVS Jupiter 110 road test: Sharper, smoother, still sensible
The TVS Jupiter has long been a sensible nameplate choice in India's scooter market. Last year, TVS gave the baby Jupiter 110 a big update, and it's been doing really well for the brand since then. Back when it was launched, we had a short spin on the company's test track, but that's never the full picture. So this time, we've lived with it in the real world: riding it in the city for a couple of months. From daily office commutes to quick grocery runs, and even the occasional spirited ride on empty stretches of road, we've put it through everything. And here's how it has fared.
TVS Jupiter 110: Design and practicality
Speaking about the new Jupiter 110, the first thing that catches your eye is the design. It's no longer just a plain-looking family scooter. The sharper LED DRL upfront with integrated indicators, the neatly designed side panels, and the slim LED tail-light bar all give it a more upmarket look. Even when parked among the sea of scooters outside a mall in Noida, the Jupiter manages to stand out just enough without being flashy. That's a big win.

Practicality, though, remains Jupiter's strongest suit. The under-seat storage has been reworked, now easily swallowing a full-face helmet or an office bag with some space to spare. This is thanks to the relocation of the fuel tank under the floorboard. Another small yet very practical addition is that of the front fuel filler. It has been very handy especially at Delhi's crowded petrol pumps where you don't want to be juggling your helmet and seat. Moreover, you add in the USB charging port, a decent glovebox, and a long, flat seat, what you get is a very practical, convenient scooter to live with. Beyond that, the build quality feels solid, and even after frequent use, there are no rattles or loose panels.
TVS Jupiter 110: Ride and performance
Now let's get to the most important bit: the ride and performance. Out on the road, the new Jupiter feels a lot more stable than before. It runs on 12-inch wheels and uses a chassis borrowed from the bigger Jupiter 125, and that setup really works well on our kind of roads. Be it potholes, tall speed breakers, or those rough patches on flyovers, the suspension manages it all without making the ride harsh. At the same time, it doesn't feel too soft either.
Speaking of the powerplant, it draws its performance from the 113.3 cc motor, which makes a little under 8 bhp and about 9.8 Nm of torque. Sure, those figures don't sound too exciting on paper, but out in the real world, Jupiter feels lively enough. It gets off the line cleanly, keeps up with city traffic without any fuss, and settles into a relaxed cruise at 70–80 kmph. The power delivery is smooth and linear, which makes it easy to ride even for beginners. Push it further, and up to 85 kmph, the scooter still feels composed and doesn't sound like it's working too hard. At idle, there are some vibrations, but once on the move, the motor feels smooth and easy-going.
Another feature that we liked was the iGO start-stop system. For those unversed, it basically cuts the engine at long red lights and fires it back up the moment you twist the throttle. Convenient? Yes, very. But it also saves up fuel. And speaking of that, well, we were able to manage a
fuel efficiency
hovering around 55 kmpl in mixed city riding.
For stopping power, the model employs a front disc and rear drum setup in the higher variants - the one which we rode. Braking performance on the Jupiter feels well-judged for city use. The levers have a reassuring feel, and the Combi Braking System steps in seamlessly when you need it. Most of the time I found myself depending on the front brake, and it had enough bite to scrub off speed quickly while keeping the scooter balanced and composed. Even during hard stops, it never felt nervous. Speaking of hard stops, TVS has also added an Emergency Brake Alert system. So, when you brake hard, the tail-light flashes to warn vehicles behind you. Of course, a small but very thoughtful touch.

TVS Jupiter 110: Verdict
Living with Jupiter 110 has been surprisingly easy. Daily office runs and quick market trips, it has handled all of it without fuss. The combination of stability, comfort, and practicality makes it a very usable machine for NCR life, and other cities alike.
All things considered, the 2024 TVS Jupiter 110 comes across as one of the most well-rounded scooters in its class. It looks sharper than before, rides with more confidence, and comes loaded with practical features that make everyday city life easier. Fuel efficiency is impressive, comfort is right up there, and the overall fit and finish give it a more premium feel. If you're in the market for a 110cc scooter, the new Jupiter 110 is definitely worth a serious look.

Opportunities, challenges in the path of deep-tech startups
The promise of 'deep-tech' startups for the growth of both the high-tech sector and the economy has been recognised. Building on IP generated from research over years, such startups come with a strong innovative moat that helps ringfence competitive advantage and scale growth internationally. This is reinforced by the success of startups such as Grey Orange, Addverb, Cynlr, Ather, Mindgrove, and Agnikul closer home to IIT-M. Startups from my own group including Planys, Solinas, Xyma, Plenome have held out this promise, delivering new solutions where none existed or disrupting existing markets in phygital infra asset maintenance. However deep-tech startup founders face significant challenges at nascent and growth stages. At the growth stage, the key challenge is underestimating time required for product development as opposed to proof of concept (POC). Most R&D funds today tend to be allocated to demonstrating POC. However, turning a POC into a field-deployable product takes testing, validation and redesign based on end-user feedback and it takes a couple of years. Hurdles include non-availability of resources for standardization, reliability estimation, and ergonomic considerations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? Vitauthority Learn More Undo The role of pre-incubators, incubators and venture studio-like settings, especially those within or connected to universities, becomes important. They provide founders the space and resources to build deep science-based solutions, and they can support them through product creation, providing grants and dedicated mentoring, as well as access to end-users and industry partners. Every new segment entry would require a similar process, and this hampers product development, as the Indian market tends to be customisation-heavy. Founders face a dilemma as spend on product development may not immediately translate into business and revenues. Govt policy becomes crucial here. More grants dedicated to scale-up and translational research as well as industry incentives can help startup founders. There is also a need for agencies dedicated to certification and standardization; creation of a resource base to understand standards and certifications relevant to an industry segment. There could be programmes where targeted end-users are brought in to provide pilots to promising deep tech start-ups, post the success of which they could get full-fledged orders. At the scale-up stage, founders have to encounter a 'wall of resistance' in the form of a trust-deficit for new solutions, products or processes in the face of well-entrenched existing approaches. Many of these issues are relevant to Tamil Nadu, home to industry majors, MNC back-offices and GCCs. While emphasis is given to the north, thanks to Chennai, there is much interest for startups to connect with industries and users in Trichy, Madurai, and Coimbatore. Access to govt schemes, resources, and funding has improved under initiatives such as Startup TN, but this needs more systemic attention. The state is ideally poised for supporting startups with 'go to market', industry, pilot, and scale-up initiatives. With Tamil Nadu industrial development corporation (TIDCO) and Tamil Nadu infrastructure fund management corporation (TNIFMC), the state can do much to support deep tech startups through specific interventions in impact funding. Creation of state level facilities for product testing and standardisation would be a big boon for startups. More creation of agencies to collate information about certification and enabling rapid processing of applications for them would also be helpful. Tamil Nadu hosts several companies manufacturing everything from automobiles to electronics. Specific targeted initiatives, exposing them to deep tech start-ups from the state could be a win-win strategy. Austin Dillon creates NASCAR history, gets compared with legendary seven-time Cup Series champion Dale Earnhardt
In his playoff-clinching victory at Richmond Raceway, Austin Dillon shared some NASCAR history on the venerable short track with the most famous driver of the No. 3 Chevrolet. Dale Earnhardt , the late seven-time Cup Series champion who amassed 76 victories in a Hall of Fame career, was the last Richard Childress Racing driver to win consecutive Cup races at the 0.75-mile oval in Richmond, Virginia, until Dillon did so Saturday night. The comparisons to Earnhardt and whispers of nepotism have dogged Dillon since the grandson of team owner Richard Childress was tabbed 11 years ago to drive the car number synonymous with a NASCAR icon. 'I could win 50 races, and they'll say my grandpa gave me the ride,' Dillon said with a smile. 'They're not wrong. He did. He did a great job putting me in it. Hopefully, I'm paying off on his investment at some point.' Richmond was only his sixth victory in 433 Cup starts, but Dillon said snapping a 37-race winless streak was 'one of the best because it was pretty much a butt kicking.' He led 107 of 400 laps, including the final 49, and cruised to a 2.471-second victory over Alex Bowman. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 3BHK Transformation Possible for ₹4.5 Lakh? HomeLane Get Quote Undo Dillon never led for more than 35 laps in any of his previous Cup wins. He won the 2018 Daytona 500 by leading only the last lap after knocking Aric Almirola aside two turns from the checkered flag. Last year's win at Richmond was his most controversial as Dillon wrecked Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin on the final lap, and NASCAR consequently revoked his playoff eligibility. Live Events There was no such drama Saturday night, when Dillon cleanly outdueled 2023 Cup champion Ryan Blaney just before his final pit stop. 'Anybody that says Austin doesn't deserve to be at this level, look at the 30 or 40 laps he raced side by side with Ryan Blaney,' said Richard Boswell, Dillon's crew chief. 'He raced door to door with a Cup champion. He beat him. Yeah, we need to run better. We need to be more consistent. But anybody that says he just can't do it is not looking at the facts.' The statistics are less convincing about Dillon's championship chances. Richmond was the first top-five finish in 25 races this year for Dillon, who is ranked 25th in the points standings and in the Cup playoffs for the sixth time in 12 seasons. He has won championships in the Truck and Xfinity series, with 22 victories across NASCAR's top three national circuits. 'Austin has earned his way,' Childress said. 'He won races in everything he's ever driven. They're going to give you criticism because he is my grandson. But we take it. It's just the way life is. You can't be burdened down by what people say. Do what you do and move forward. He's won his share.' 35-year-old Dillon said he cried last year during RCR's unsuccessful appeal of the NASCAR penalty that took him out of the playoffs, noting he legitimately had passed Hamlin and Logano before a late caution erased a comfortable lead. The Richmond repeat validated Dillon's belief that he belongs in NASCAR's premier series. Playoff outlook Dillon became the 14th winner to lock into the 16-driver playoff field heading into the August 23 regular-season finale at Daytona International Speedway. There will be at least one winless driver to qualify for the playoffs, and Tyler Reddick and Bowman occupy the final two provisional spots in the points standings. Reddick was on track to clinch a playoff spot at Richmond after leading 41 laps, but he finished 34th after being caught in a crash that started when Daniel Suarez bumped Ty Gibbs. 'It's pretty much worst-case scenario for us,' Reddick said. 'We can thank Daniel Suarez for that. Went from a car that was one of the fastest on the track to one of the slowest.' Bubba Wallace, who is teamed with Reddick at the 23XI Racing squad co-owned by NBA great Michael Jordan, led a race-high 123 laps in his No. 23 Toyota but finished two laps down in 28th after losing a tire during a pit stop. Regular-season champion With a 12th-place finish, William Byron clinched the regular-season title as Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott finished last. Byron will be awarded 15 playoff points that will provide a good cushion to make the championship finale at Phoenix Raceway for the third consecutive season. FAQs Q1. What is age of Austin Dillon?
