
Qatari Hajj Mission unveils 7th edition of Murshid Al-Hajj app, sophisticated services for pilgrims
The app offers an integrated suite of guidance, health, and communication services that accompany the pilgrim throughout the various phases of the pilgrimage journey.
Head of the Information Systems Unit at the Qatari Hajj Mission, Ghanem Rashid Al Kubaisi, highlighted that the application serves as a 'smart digital companion' for pilgrims from Qatar. He noted that it constitutes the mission's unwavering efforts to enhance services, indicating that the application is available on both the Apple App Store and Android platforms, ensuring broad accessibility for all pilgrims from the State of Qatar.
The application also benefits Arabic-speaking pilgrims of various nationalities by providing them with credible and reliable informational content, he outlined.
Al Kubaisi further pointed out that the application features a dedicated 'Pilgrim's Toolkit' section comprising instructional videos in Arabic, English, and sign language.
It offers smart communication services, including the option to share one's live location and contact number with the mission's unit via WhatsApp or SMS, ensuring swift response and timely assistance in both emergency and non-emergency situations, he added.
Al Kubaisi stressed that the unit is highly committed to constantly working to update and advance the technological tools, in alignment with the mission's keenness to leverage all ways that ensure the pilgrims' safety and security during the pilgrimage season.
As part of the on-ground preparations, the mission's Information Systems Unit has outfitted the mission's key facilities in Saudi Arabia with a state-of-the-art internal network.
This infrastructure has been seamlessly integrated across all administrative, technical, and service units within the facilities, in pursuit of accelerating the operational workflows and fostering a diligent, advanced work atmosphere that ensures optimal service delivery to the pilgrims.
In addition, the mission intended to provide modern devices that track the traffic of the campaigns' buses while en route, with the aim of facilitating traffic flow between the holy sites.
It also connected these devices with the Communication Unit to provide prompt services to pilgrims so as to easily accomplish the pilgrimage rituals and simultaneously ensure their safety and provision of support when needed.
The application includes a comprehensive health guide developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Endowments. It offers pre- and post-ritual health tips, safety and first aid instructions, as well as key recommendations for the pre-pilgrimage phase.
It also incorporates smart services that were specifically catered to pilgrims in order to facilitate their experience, mostly the circumambulation around the Kaaba 'Tawaf and Sa'i', along with an electronic rosary for reciting supplications.
It features an interactive map of the Grand Mosque displaying gate locations, ablution areas, and security offices, offering audio-visual educational videos that explain the Hajj rituals in a clear and accessible format.
Furthermore, the application provides essential information such as the Qibla direction, prayer times, and real-time weather updates. Pilgrims may also electronically generate and print an official Hajj completion certificate through the campaign management system linked to the Department of Hajj and Umrah Affairs.

QNA Doha Assistive Technology Center Qatar (Mada) has successfully concluded the 2025 Summer Camp, a pioneering initiative aimed at teaching children with disabilities between the ages of 10 and 15 the fundamentals of programming, robotics, and artificial intelligence (AI). This year's edition built on the great success of last year's Summer Camp. More than 40 participants with various disabilities took part in the camp's activities, which ran during July and August. Google agrees to $36 million fine over Android search deals
Agencies Google has agreed to pay a Aus$55 million (US$36 million) penalty for striking 'anti-competitive' deals to pre-install only its own search engine on Android mobile phones sold by two leading Australian telecoms firms. Australia's competition authority said it had launched proceedings in the Federal Court and jointly submitted with Google Asia Pacific that it should pay the fine. The court would now decide whether the agreed penalty and other orders were 'appropriate', the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said in a statement released on Monday. 'Conduct that restricts competition is illegal in Australia because it usually means less choice, higher costs or worse service for consumers,' said the commission's chair, Gina-Cass Gottlieb. Google had cooperated with the competition commission and admitted reaching the deals with telecoms firms Telstra and Optus, which were in place from December 2019 to March 2021, the body said. In return for only installing Google's search engine, Telstra and Optus had received a share of the resulting advertising revenue, the commission said. 'Google has admitted in reaching those understandings with each of Telstra and Optus it was likely to have had the effect of substantially lessening competition,' it said. Google said it was pleased to have resolved the regulator's concerns over the provisions, adding that they had not been in its commercial agreements for 'some time'. 'We are committed to providing Android device makers more flexibility to preload browsers and search apps,' a Google spokesperson said.

Google agrees $36m fine for anti-competitive deals with Australia telcos
Google has agreed to pay 55 million Australian dollars ($ 35.8m) in fines after the country's consumer watchdog found it harmed competition by paying the country's two largest telecommunications companies to pre-install its search application on Android phones, excluding rival search engines. The fine extends a bumpy period for the Alphabet-owned internet giant in Australia, where last week a court mostly ruled against it in a lawsuit brought by Fortnite maker Epic Games, accusing Google and Apple of preventing rival application stores in their operating systems. Google's YouTube was also added to an Australian ban on social media platforms last month admitting users aged under 16, reversing an earlier decision to exempt the video-sharing site. On anti-competitive tie-ups with Australian telcos, the country's consumer watchdog on Monday said Google struck deals with Telstra and Optus, under which the tech giant shared with them advertising revenue generated from Google Search on Android devices between late 2019 and early 2021. Google admitted the arrangement had a substantial effect on competition from rival search engines, and has stopped signing similar deals while also agreeing to the fine, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) added. 'Today's outcome … created the potential for millions of Australians to have greater search choice in the future, and for competing search providers to gain meaningful exposure to Australian consumers,' ACCC Chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb said. Joint submission Google and the ACCC have jointly submitted to the Federal Court that Google should pay the 55 million Australian dollar fine. The court must still decide if the penalty is appropriate, the ACCC said, but the cooperation between the regulator and Google has helped avoid lengthy litigation.
