Probe every aspect of Zara Qairina's death, says Sabah governor
PETALING JAYA : Sabah governor Musa Aman has instructed the authorities to carry out their investigation into the death of Form 1 student Zara Qairina Mahathir transparently, thoroughly, and without fear or favour.
'Every aspect must be investigated,' Musa said in a statement today.
He also called on everyone, especially social media users, to refrain from speculating about the case or spreading baseless claims and conspiracy theories about the teenager's death.
He said such actions would not only affect the investigation, but would also upset Zara's grieving family.
'We need to let the law take its course and stand with Zara's family in their search for the truth as well as ensure that the case is solved,' he said.
Musa also offered Zara's family his condolences.
Separately, the Sabah palace said tahlil prayers for Zara will be held on Thursday after maghrib prayers at the city mosque.
Zara was found unconscious at 4am on July 16 after she allegedly fell from the third floor of her school's hostel in Papar, Sabah.
She died at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital the following day.
Zara's mother, Noraidah Lamat, filed a police report on Aug 3 after stating that she recalled seeing bruises on parts of her daughter's back.
Zara's body was exhumed for a post-mortem yesterday.
Earlier today, a task force from the Bukit Aman criminal investigation department was sent to Sabah to take over the investigations into the 13-year-old's death.

Pang admitted the mistake was unintentional and took full responsibility for the incident, which occurred last Saturday. He vowed to be more careful in the future when displaying the national flag. 'It was not intentional. I admit it was my fault. At the time, the flag hadn't been fully installed yet. Once we realised the mistake, we corrected it immediately. Unfortunately, the viral video only showed part of the incident,' he said. Police arrested Pang last Saturday and released him on bail after recording his statement on Sunday. Melaka JPJ seizes RM6m worth of luxury vehicles from Bentley, Porsche to Toyota Alphard
MELAKA, Aug 12 — The Melaka Road Transport Department (RTD) seized seven luxury vehicles, estimated to be worth almost RM6 million, during 'Op Khas Luxury' (Special Luxury Operation) conducted from July 1 until today. Its director, Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop, said the seized luxury vehicles, which include brands like Bentley, Porsche, BMW, and Toyota Alphard, were impounded for various offences, including expired road tax and lack of insurance coverage. She noted that common excuses given by the owners or drivers of these vehicles were that they 'overlooked' or 'forgot' to renew their road tax and insurance. 'The latest luxury vehicle seized was a Toyota Alphard driven by a Myanmar national with six other men of the same nationality, traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru. The seizure took place at the Jasin Toll entrance around 10 am this morning. 'The driver was found to not have a valid driver's license, and none of them had valid travel documents before being handed over to the police for further action,' she said at a press conference on Op Khas Luxury and Op Pemandu Warga Asing (PeWA) (Foreign Driver Operation) here today. Also present were the Deputy Director of the Melaka RTD, Khairul Aswad Abdul Halim, and the Head of the Melaka RTD Enforcement Division, Zulhilmi Zaidie. Elaborating further, Siti Zarina said that a check revealed that the owner of the Toyota Alphard is a local citizen while a detailed investigation is underway to examine various aspects, including whether the vehicle was rented to the foreigners involved. She added that Op Luxury was launched simultaneously across the country on July 1, focusing on strengthening enforcement against imported and luxury vehicles that fail to comply with road regulations and laws. In another development, she said 36 motorcycles ridden by foreigners were also seized under Op PeWA (operation codenamed Op Pewa for vehicles operated by foreigners), which was conducted around the state today. 'The foreigners riding motorcycles were from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Rohingya, Myanmar, and Vietnam. Inquest into Zara Qairina's death must be expedited as questions mount, says MP
KUALA LUMPUR: The government has been urged to hold an inquest into the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir, an opposition MP told the Dewan Rakyat. Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden (PN-Alor Star) said the inquest was necessary to identify those responsible, as the cause of her death and the identity of the perpetrators remained unanswered nearly a month after the incident. "Zara is not only the child of her parents, but the child of all Malaysians who want justice for her still unanswered death," he said during his debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan in the Dewan Rakyat. Afnan also proposed the appointment of full-time hostel wardens who are not schoolteachers, safety audits at schools with a high incidence of bullying, installation of CCTV cameras, the drafting of anti-bullying legislation, and the immediate formation of a special cabinet committee on bullying. The fifth measure, he said, was to create an online complaint platform that could be accessed by schools, police, and other relevant agencies. "What exactly happened? "Who are the perpetrators being protected?" he asked, adding that the issue had undermined public trust in schools, which should instead inspire confidence. On Sunday, the post-mortem was conducted at HQE, lasting about eight hours from 11am to 7.30pm.
