I ran 35 miles in the On Cloudboom Echo 3 carbon plate running shoe and it's just hit its lowest ever price

Tom's Guide04-07-2025
I've tested almost all of the best carbon plate running shoes available and one thing is true of all of them — they don't come cheap.
That means it's always worth looking out for deals on super-shoes, and right the On Cloudboom Echo 3 is reduced to $155 in the On sale, a saving of over $100.
The Cloudboom Echo 3 is no longer the flagship racer in On's range, but it's still a very fast and impressive carbon plate running shoe and at this reduced price it's certainly worth considering ahead of newer, more expensive models. The green/white color of both the men's and women's On Cloudboom Echo 3 is reduced to $155, while others colors are available for $180.
I raced a 5K as well as doing a lot of fast training in the Cloudboom Echo 3 when it came out in June 2023 and I was impressed by its performance, with the carbon plate and springy Helion HF foam midsole producing a propulsive ride.
The carbon shoe market has moved on since then and the On Cloudboom Strike LS is the current top racer in the Swiss brand's line-up, with the standard Cloudboom Strike also available.
I do rate the Cloudboom Strike as a faster and more comfortable racing shoe than the Cloudboom Echo 3, but it will cost you $310 — more than twice as much as the Echo 3 in this sale.
In fact this sale price means the Cloudboom Echo 3 is cheaper than a lot of fast training shoes, let alone the latest carbon racers, which usually cost over $250.
At this price I think the Cloudboom Echo 3 is worth considering as a fast trainer/racer you can add to your running shoe rotation. It's particularly good for shorter races like 5Ks and 10Ks, and while it might not have the speed of today's top carbon racers, it's not far off.

This Ultra-High-Dividend Yield Stock Is Up 25% So Far This Year

Key Points Tobacco giant Altria Group has outperformed the broad market in 2025. Price hikes continue to stabilize the company's cash flows. An ongoing share buyback program will support dividend growth in the years to come. 10 stocks we like better than Altria Group › The stock market is soaring. On a total return basis, the S&P 500 is up 10% year to date, 57% in the past three years, and over 100% in the last five years. It may surprise you to learn, however, that leading tobacco company Altria Group (NYSE: MO) has been outperforming the broad market, despite the long-term decline of smoking in the U.S. That's due in large part to the stock's juicy dividend, which yields 6.2% as of this writing. Altria reported its second-quarter earnings on July 30. Results showed continued progress in its strategy to optimize cash flows over the long term. The stock has steadily climbed following the report and is now up over 25% so far this year. The recent gains mean Altria is trading at levels not seen since 2018. Should you buy this dividend stock as it approaches its previous all-time high? Let's look at the numbers and find out. Price increases and cash flow Altria holds the rights to the famed Marlboro cigarette brand in the U.S. It has employed a consistent strategy for decades to optimize cash flows from the shrinking cigarette category. In the face of consistent volume declines and waning demand from consumers in the country, Altria regularly raises prices on cigarettes, counteracting the volume declines. Q2 numbers illustrate this dynamic. Altria's cigarette volume declined 10.2% year over year, while revenue net of excise taxes was flat year over year. Operating income still grew 4.4% for the smokeables category, which was helped by the cigars segment where the Black & Mild brand posted volume increases. These price hikes are how Altria consistently increases its free cash flow. In the last 12 months, the company generated $8.7 billion in free cash flow, which is close to a record high (excluding a 2020 period of irregular inventory and working capital dynamics). As price hikes continue, Altria Group should see stable cash flows from the cigarette and smokeables division as a whole. Can nicotine pouches save the day? Like the other nicotine giants, Altria Group has made investments into alternative nicotine categories such as vaping and nicotine pouches. Some of these have been successful, while others were wild failures, such as its investment in Juul vaping before the brand's collapse. Today, the company is showing growth with its On! nicotine pouch brand and NJOY vaping division. On! volume grew 26.5% year over year last quarter to 52.1 million cans sold. However, this didn't even fully counteract the volume declines from chewing tobacco brands such as Copenhagen as overall oral nicotine volumes were down 1.0%. Oral nicotine revenue net of excise taxes was $728 million last quarter, or just 16% of the size of Altria's smokeables division. Something that could affect Altria's growth going forward is a government crackdown on illicit vaping devices, which have flooded the U.S. market. These devices are technically illegal, but they're wildly popular and eat into sales for Altria's nicotine pouches, vaping products, and even cigarettes. A stricter regulatory environment could be a boon for volume growth across the business. The math behind the dividend growth At the end of the day, cash flows from legacy smokeable products will continue to drive the business for years to come. With these cash flows, management returns capital to shareholders through share repurchases and dividends. Altria's free cash flow per share was $5.16 over the last 12 months. This gives the company plenty of coverage for its $4.08 dividend per share payout to shareholders. With the excess cash accumulating on the balance sheet, management is retiring shares outstanding through stock buybacks, which will further boost free cash flow per share and help with future dividend growth. Over the last 10 years, Altria's shares outstanding have fallen 14%. Price increases, margin expansion, and a little help from newer categories like nicotine pouches can help Altria maintain its overall free cash flow levels, allowing Altria to sustain its streak of annual dividend increases. With a 6.2% yield, Altria Group still looks like a good dividend stock to buy today, even after its strong gains year to date. Should you invest $1,000 in Altria Group right now? On Holding AG (ONON) Is One Of My Favorite Companies, Says Jim Cramer

We recently published . On Holding AG (NYSE:ONON) is one of the stocks Jim Cramer recently discussed. On Holding AG (NYSE:ONON) is a Swiss athletic apparel retailer. Its shares have dipped by 19% year-to-date, primarily due to inflationary effects on the demand for its products. However, despite the weak share performance, Cramer has remained upbeat about On Holding AG (NYSE:ONON) as he believes that the firm has the potential to rise from any major setback. Here are his recent thoughts about the firm: 'One of my favorite companies is On Holding. Now it has been stuck in a holding pattern. They reported very good numbers today, the stock was initially up seven, now it's down. There's a substantial short position, the shorts have been winning in this battle. I think Roger Federer in the end wins. But it is a very contested group.' Copyright: halfpoint / 123RF Stock Photo Here are Cramer's previous thoughts about On Holding AG (NYSE:ONON): 'You know, let me tell you something, the reason why I like the stock is that they have adjusted every time that there's been a problem. Roger Federer and his team have adjusted, and I think that if there's really something that's lasting and negative, they will fix it, which is one of the reasons why I do like On. I am concerned that Nike may be making a comeback and take business from On, but I think On is a decent buy here.' Jefferies Analyst Prefers Nike Over On: Here's Why

Jefferies analyst Randal J. Konik thinks Nike Inc.'s turnaround is showing more than just a few green shoots — and that could stall On's growth. 'Nike's Vomero Plus is outperforming On's Cloudsurfer Max in both consumer interest and retail sell-through,' he noted in a reports, adding that Google Trends shows 'materially higher search volume for Vomero, signaling stronger buzz.' More from WWD Phil Knight's Record $2 Billion Gift Will Fund Cancer Care and Research in Nike's Portland Community This Italian Performance Brand Wants Your Next Daily Running Shoe to Be Made Out of Natural Fibers Nike's SB Dunk Gets a Plaid-covered Collaboration With Beloved Journalist Nardwuar According to Konik, Nike's new running product is also selling out on reinforcing its broader appeal. 'This momentum aligns with Nike's commentary around a strengthening order book heading into the holiday season,' the analyst concluded. So how does this impact On Holding AG? Nike has ramped up product innovation, particularly in running, and is correcting its wholesale distribution strategy. Both initiatives will present a 'stronger competitive challenge' for On, both in sell-throughs and sell-in dynamics. That could potentially slow On's momentum in key markets, Konik concluded in a report on Thursday. The Jefferies analyst noted that much of On's 'past wholesale growth came while Nike pulled back' its in-store presence. Nike's order book is trending higher as retailers get excite about it new releases. And with On's U.S. door expansion opportunities becoming limited, Konik believes that retailers may decide to allocate more of their open-to-buy budgets to Nike's products. That, in turn, would leave fewer incremental orders for On. 'In short, retail buyer enthusiasm — and dollars — could pivot back to Nike, constraining On's future sell-in growth,' Konik said. On posted second quarter earnings results on Tuesday, reporting a net loss of 40.9 Swiss francs, against net income of 30.8 million Swiss francs a year ago. Net sales grew by 38 percent to 749.2 million Swiss francs, from 567.7 Swiss francs a year ago. The company also raised 2025 guidance following is strong performance for the quarter and what it saw as continued momentum in the first weeks of the third quarter. On also raised guidance in the first quarter following an earnings report that was ahead of expectations. Following On's earnings report, Konik was an outlier among Wall Street analysts, downgrading shares of On to 'Underperform' from a 'Hold' rating in May after the running brand posted first quarter results. He reasoned that 2025 could mark the peak in On's sales growth rate as U.S. door count expansion slows and sell-in moderates in 2026 as retailer orders flow back to Nike. In addition, On's high pricing and narrow product assortment limits its total addressable market, the analyst concluded. According to Konik's On report, a true lifestyle brand has meaningful footwear and apparel sales. Nike has it, while On does not. In addition, 'On's apparel products are highly technical and very expensive, which prevents the category from becoming large in out view,' another factor that limits the brand's total addressable market, he concluded. Wall Street's projecting earnings growth of 20 percent and up, but Konik's not convinced. He noted that On's fixed costs are rising, which can raise execution risk. 'If growth moderates and expenses climb, On may struggle to meet these lofty forecasts, putting pressure on its valuation,' Konik said. Meanwhile, Nike's Vomero 18 has already surpassed the $100 million mark since its February launch, paving the way for a Nike turnaround in the running category. In fact, Nike's confidence of its comeback saw company CEO Elliott Hill tell investors in the firm's fourth quarter earnings conference call in June that the worst was over. 'From here, we expect our business results to improve. It's time to turn the page,' Hill said. Three specialty retailers told Footwear News last month that they too believe that Nike running is on the comeback trail.
