Kuwait, UK seek to deepen trade and investment relations
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, the meeting reviewed the outcomes of the recent historic visits of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, to the United Kingdom. Both sides affirmed their commitment to further developing the strategic investment partnership between Kuwait and the UK.
As the current president of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Kuwait emphasized its intention to accelerate negotiations on a free trade agreement between the GCC and the UK. Minister Al-Fassam conveyed this position during her discussions with the British official.
Also present at the meeting was Sheikh Saud Salem Abdulaziz Al-Sabah, Managing Director of the Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA), who reiterated the Authority's interest in reinforcing investment relations with the UK. He highlighted the Kuwait Investment Office (KIO) in London, established over 70 years ago, as a key player in managing Kuwaiti assets across various sectors, laying a solid foundation for further expansion.
Minister Lammy expressed the UK's readiness to support Kuwait's development goals and contribute to major infrastructure and economic projects through British investment.
The talks were also attended by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance Aseel Al-Mneify, Kuwait's Ambassador to the UK Bader Al-Munayekh, and the UK's Ambassador to Kuwait Belinda Lewis.

Kuwait, Saudi Arabia collaborate on AI and IoT governance
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, July 7: In a major step towards strengthening regional technological collaboration, the Kuwaiti Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) Association and the Saudi Artificial Intelligence Governance Association (AIGA) signed a strategic cooperation agreement on Monday in Riyadh. The agreement aims to advance joint efforts in regulating and developing artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies across the Gulf region. Sheikh Mohammad Al-Sabah, Chairman of the Kuwaiti AIoT Association, stated that the agreement is part of the association's wider goals to enhance its impact through the exchange of expertise and best practices. "This cooperation will promote specialized education and training, and help develop joint initiatives in AI and IoT," he told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA). Sheikh Mohammad also expressed optimism that the agreement will pave the way for unified standards on the ethical governance of emerging technologies. "Such cooperation will strengthen the GCC countries' position as regional leaders in technology and innovation," he added. Speaking on behalf of the Saudi side, Dr. Dhabia Al-Buainain, Chairwoman of the AIGA Board of Directors, noted that the agreement reflects Saudi Arabia's ongoing commitment to fostering regional collaboration in AI governance. "This initiative supports the Kingdom's broader efforts to keep pace with rapid technological change by creating a robust and ethical regulatory environment," she said. Dr. Al-Buainain emphasized the importance of building strategic partnerships to support responsible innovation. "Establishing an advanced legislative and ethical framework ensures the responsible use of technology, in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030, Kuwait's Vision 2030, and regional aspirations," she noted. Representing the Kuwaiti AIoT Association at the signing were Chairman Sheikh Mohammad Al-Sabah, Secretary Dr. Ayed Salman, and board member Abdulaziz Al-Barjas. The Saudi delegation was led by Dr. Dhabia Al-Buainain, accompanied by board member Eng. Majed Al-Otaibi. The event was also attended by Raed Al-Falih, CEO of the Business Development Sector at the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), along with members of SDAIA's Supervisory Unit team. Established by Ministerial Resolution No. 193 of 2023, the Kuwaiti AIoT Association aims to raise public awareness about AI and IoT technologies, foster scientific research, and support national efforts to advance these fields through seminars, conferences, and collaboration with relevant institutions.

King Charles III leads UK in marking 20 years since deadly 7/7 London bombings
LONDON, July 7, (AP): King Charles III, Prime Minister Keir Starmer and countless ordinary Londoners paused Monday to mark the 20th anniversary of the 2005 London transit bombings, the deadliest attack on the British capital since World War II. Fifty-two people died and more than 770 were wounded when four British men inspired by al-Qaeda blew themselves up on three subway trains and a bus during the morning rush hour on July 7, 2005. They were the first suicide bombings on European soil. Two weeks later, four other bombers attempted a similar attack, but their devices failed to explode. No one was hurt. The bombings remain seared into London's collective memory, and the anniversary was being marked with events including a ceremony at the 7/7 memorial in Hyde Park and a service of commemoration at St. Paul's Cathedral. At 8:50 a.m., the moment the first bomb exploded 20 years ago, Starmer and London Mayor Sadiq Khan laid wreaths at the Hyde Park monument, a group of 52 steel columns commemorating the people who were killed. Dan Biddle, who lost both legs in the blast on a Tube train near Edgware Road station, said the day brought mixed emotions. Kuwait completes foundational phase of unified GIS project: Minister
KUWAIT CITY, July 7: The Minister of Public Works, Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, announced on Monday the completion of the foundational phase of the unified Geographic Information System (GIS) project, marking a significant step in the ministry's broader digital transformation strategy. In a press statement, Dr. Al-Mashaan said the ministry has successfully developed unified technical specifications for the delivery of geographic data across all technical sectors. These specifications have already been applied to 12 maintenance contracts during the project's initial pilot phase. She noted that the initiative is being implemented within a strategic framework extending through 2026, with the goal of standardizing GIS specifications across all ministry-affiliated sectors. As part of this plan, an institutional geographic data center will be established to serve as the central authority for managing and updating all geographic data. To enhance transparency and oversight, Dr. Al-Mashaan revealed the launch of an interactive digital dashboard. This platform will monitor the progress of maintenance operations and ongoing projects, helping embed a culture of using geographic data in planning, management, and decision-making. The minister added that a systematic field-based mechanism has been adopted to integrate contract and work order data by linking GIS system layers through unified coding. This approach has been carried out in collaboration with relevant ministry teams to ensure data quality and integration. Dr. Al-Mashaan emphasized that continuous coordination with the Public Authority for Civil Information has been key to enhancing the GIS system's effectiveness and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the data provided.
