Emergency services are working to rescue three people and two dogs trapped in a cable car suspended above the Whanganui River at Taumarunui.
The occupants of a private cable car called emergency services at 5pm, saying they had become stuck.
Police said a report was made of a cable car breaking down across the river on Whanganui River Road.
Fire crews and police are at the scene.
