Hyderabad police chief C.V. Anand, H-NEW win global award for anti-narcotics efforts
Hyderabad City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand and the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) have been awarded first place in the 'Excellence in Anti-Narcotics Award' category at the World Police Summit (WPS) 2025.
Organised by Dubai Police, the summit will take place from May 13 to 15, and the award will be presented during a formal ceremony at the Dubai Police Officers Club on the final day.
The World Police Summit brings together law enforcement agencies from over 138 countries, including elite forces such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, New York City Police Department, Los Angeles Police Department, Metropolitan Police, Australian Federal Police and the German Police. The summit fosters strategic dialogue, collaboration and the exchange of best practices to address challenges in modern policing.
Entries from police units across continents underwent a rigorous two-stage evaluation process led by an expert jury and Dubai police. Entries were assessed on parameters including reduction in drug supply, decline in substance use, community engagement and inter-agency collaboration.
H-NEW's success stems from a multi-pronged model that includes coordination with national and State-level agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate, Narcotics Control Bureau, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, GST, Excise, Counter Intelligence, Drugs Control Administration, and Foreigners Regional Registration Office, widespread community outreach, aggressive enforcement against international and interstate drug networks, dark web interventions, deportation of foreign offenders and parallel focus on rehabilitation.
The official will receive the award in Dubai.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner posts ‘what if' scenario after Bengaluru stampede deaths
A day after 11 stampede deaths in Bengaluru during the celebration of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory in the IPL final, Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand took to social media to post a 'what if' scenario. The trigger was the frenzied celebrations late into the night across parts of Hyderabad as soon as the RCB won the match. Large crowds gathered on the NTR Marg stretch, Tank Bund, and Necklace Road, prompting a swift police response after the situation turned chaotic. 'What if there were some deaths in Hyderabad too? Can anyone expect celebrations for RCB in Hyderabad city?' wrote Mr. Anand on X (formerly Twitter). Watching and hearing about the stampede in Bangalore made me wonder where we are going ! This is not a national team winning the World Cup ! It's a mere franchise called RCB which works on commercial lines and does not have a single Hyderabad player in it !? It's not even a… — CV Anand IPS (@CVAnandIPS) June 5, 2025 'The night patrol officers were caught completely off guard around midnight as hordes of youngsters and revellers descended on the area. Traffic came to a standstill in multiple directions and instances of hooliganism were reported. Police rushed additional forces and carried out a lathi-charge to disperse the crowd,' shared Mr Anand. ' He articulated how impromptu celebrations triggered and choreographed by social media for the unlikeliest causes could be dangerous. 'This is not a national team winning the World Cup ! It's a mere franchise called RCB which works on commercial lines and does not have a single Hyderabad player in it !? It's not even a #Hyderabad based team,' wrote Mr. Anand. 'But with the social media playing a huge role across the country and the globe, perhaps police has to be alert for everyone and everything in future! Is it humanely possible to do so,' he concluded his post on X.

Travel ban vs restrictions: How will Trump's new order affect 19 listed countries?
President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed a proclamation, imposing a travel ban on nationals from 12 countries and partial restrictions on seven others, citing terrorism and national security risks. Affecting 19 nations, including Cuba and Haiti, the order cites Trump v. Hawaii (2018) to restrict entry under Section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Fully Restricted (12): Afghanistan, Burma (Myanmar), Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen Partially Restricted (7): Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, Venezuela Read More: Why did Donald Trump order a ban on travellers from 12 countries? Complete suspension of entry for all nationals, regardless of visa type, except for lawful permanent residents, existing visa holders, specific visa categories, and those serving US national interests. According to the White House press release, entry is barred for students, tourists, workers, and refugees, severely limiting migration and travel. The order limits entry for specific visa types—immigrant visas and nonimmigrant B-1 (business), B-2 (tourism), B-1/B-2, F (student), M (vocational), and J (exchange) visas—while allowing other categories (eg, H-1B, diplomatic). Read More: Donald Trump orders probe into alleged cover-up of ex-US president Joe Biden's health decline This comes days after President Trump blamed former President Joe Biden's immigration policies for the recent Boulder attack, which injured several locals. The suspect, an Egyptian, overstayed his visa. 'The recent terror attack in Boulder, Colorado, has underscored the extreme dangers posed to our country by the entry of foreign nationals who are not properly vetted, as well as those who come here as temporary visitors and overstay their visas. We don't want them,' Trump said on social media. In a separate proclamation, the Trump admin said that it is suspending the visas of foreign students seeking to participate in exchange programs at Harvard University. The president accused the school of failing to discipline conduct violations on campus and complained the university had only turned over information about three foreign students accused of dangerous, illegal, or threatening activity. 'Harvard's actions show that it either is not fully reporting its disciplinary records for foreign students or is not seriously policing its foreign students,' Trump said.
