Coordination meet outlines key measures for safe Bakrid

With Bakrid round the corner, the Hyderabad city police organised a coordination meeting on Tuesday at the Salar Jung Museum Auditorium, with emphasis on cleanliness, lawful animal transport, uninterrupted civic services, and communal harmony. The meeting focused on four key fronts: preventing illegal animal transport, maintaining hygiene during animal sacrifice, ensuring continuous civic amenities like power and water, and fostering cooperation among communities and officials. To curb the unauthorised movement of sacrificial animals and ensure security, Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand announced that police checkpoints would be set up across the city. Veterinary staff will be posted round-the-clock at all checkpoints, and special dog-catching teams will operate across the city. Religious leaders and community representatives urged citizens to dispose of animal waste only at designated spots and maintain public hygiene. They echoed the call for preserving Hyderabad's cultural spirit of Ganga-Jamuna Tehzeeb and ensuring a peaceful atmosphere. The GHMC Zonal Commissioner detailed additional sanitation measures, including the deployment of extra staff and waste collection vehicles, particularly around mosques and community areas. The meeting brought together officials from the GHMC, Animal Husbandry Department, RTA, Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL), HMWSS&B alongside public representatives including MLAs Majid Hussain, Kausar Mohiuddin, Zulfiqar Ali, Jaffer Hussain Meraj, and MLC Mirza Rahmat Ali Baig, religious scholars, Qureshi community members, maulanas, police and veterinary staff.

Pre-deployment of teams at vulnerable points, coordination among GHMC, Traffic Police, Water Board, SPDCL, HYDRAA must during monsoon

Flood monitoring and traffic management at the 141 known waterlogging hotspots within Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits was among the issues discussed at the monsoon preparedness meeting at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC) in Banjara Hills on Monday (May 26). Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand stressed on the pre-deployment of teams at these vulnerable points and field-level coordination among GHMC, Traffic Police, Water Board, Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGSPDCL), Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) and volunteer groups to ensure quick response during downpours. To facilitate seamless coordination, he called for optimal use of TGICCC's advanced monitoring and communication systems. He urged all departments to anticipate challenges proactively rather than reacting to crises after they unfold. The session also reviewed measures for uninterrupted power supply during storms, diverting floodwater to nalas, and responding to seasonal disease outbreaks. The structural integrity of buildings was another point of concern, with officials stressing immediate identification and intervention regarding dilapidated structures. Director General of the Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services Y. Nagi Reddy called for a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for monsoon-related emergencies. He emphasised the inclusion of all key departments, especially medical and health, to streamline responsibilities and response mechanisms. Deployment of Aapda Mitra volunteers and NGOs for emergency support and use of services like the SACHET mobile app to ensure public access to timely alerts, was also discussed.

Hyderabad top cop cautions cow vigilantes in the city ahead of Bakrid

Commissioner of Hyderabad Police C.V. Anand on Friday warned that strict action would be taken against anyone posting videos of cattle killings on social media ahead of the Bakrid festival. He also cautioned against any unauthorised action at city check posts, promising cooperation from the Hyderabad Police to address concerns around cattle protection. Chairing a coordination meeting with gauseva (cow protection) groups at Basheerbagh, he urged activists to avoid taking the law into their own hands. 'Report to us. Don't act on your own,' Anand said, advising the public to share credible information, including photos, videos or alerts, directly with the police control room at 8712661155. The meeting was attended by Additional CP (Law and Order) Vikram Singh Mann and representatives from Gauseva groups including the Yuga Thulasi Foundation, Gorakshak Dal Telangana, Akhil Bharatiya Gau Seva Foundation, Bharatiya Prani Mitra Sangh, and Love for Cow Foundation. Cow protection representatives reaffirmed their commitment to preventing cruelty towards cattle, stressing the moral and environmental importance of cow protection. Concerns were raised over disturbing social media posts depicting cattle killings, with demands for strict legal action against offenders. The police assured full support while calling for restraint and legal compliance from all groups involved.

NHRC Issues Notice to CV Anand on Sandhya Theater Stampede

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has formally issued a notice to Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand, demanding a comprehensive explanation regarding the crowd stampede that occurred at Sandhya Theater during the premiere screening of Pushpa. This development follows an earlier directive from the NHRC in January, which instructed the Hyderabad police to furnish a detailed account of the events leading up to the incident. However, the Commission has now expressed dissatisfaction with the submitted report, citing lack of clarity and failure to adequately explain key lapses. In particular, the NHRC has raised questions about the role of the police at the time of the incident, noting the proximity of the theater to a police station. It also questioned how large gatherings, loud music, and disruptions were allowed without timely intervention by local police. The police report attributes the stampede to the unplanned arrival of film actor Allu Arjun at the theater, stating that the crowd surged unexpectedly upon his appearance. The report also notes that no baton charge was used by officers present at the scene. However, the NHRC has flagged a critical issue: the actor's presence at the venue despite no official approval being granted for a special screening or event. The Commission asked how such a visit proceeded without preventive measures, especially given the high likelihood of fan gatherings.

‘Operation Abhyaas' puts Hyderabad's emergency response to test

As sirens blared across parts of Hyderabad at exactly 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Operation Abhyaas, the city's biggest civil defence mock drill in recent memory, got underway, cutting through an afternoon of confusion caused by fake news claiming the event had been called off. A timely statement from the Cyberabad Police put the rumours to rest, confirming that the drill would go ahead as planned. The exercise aimed to test the city's preparedness for large-scale emergencies, mobilising disaster response teams, police, fire services and medical staff across four sites, including Mayflower Apartments at Mallapur Crossroad in Nacharam, Avalon Apartments in Nanal Nagar, Mehdipatnam, A.R. Mani Residency in Aswini Colony, West Marredpally, and BPS Twin Towers at Santosh Nagar Crossroads in Kanchanbagh. Across the designated buildings, residents were 'rescued' by teams in bunker gear and evacuated to designated shelters. Temporary medical camps were set up to simulate emergency care, while critical 'patients' were shifted to a private hospital in the vicinity. Residents said that they were briefed only the night before and in some cases, early on Wednesday by officials from various departments, and a quick rehearsal followed. At 4.15 p.m., a simulated bomb blast signalled the beginning of rescue operations. Emergency vehicles rushed in, and stretchers were carried out, all under the watch of intrigued residents. Minutes before the siren went off, Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand confirmed that the drill was part of a broader strategy involving GHMC, Fire Services, NDRF and others. 'Operation Abhyaas is about being mentally and physically ready,' he said. Addressing the fake news and rumours, the Commissioner said that all communication will be routed through the Integrated Command Control Centre (ICCC). 'Social media teams must act fast. The medical wings across the city are expected to be on duty 100%. The NDRF, SDRF must keep their equipment serviced and ready. Officers have been looped into WhatsApp groups for real-time alerts. Every reportable incident, however minor, must be flagged,' he said.
