T-mc Ongotan steers Arellano past LPU; Mikey Cortez stars late in DLSU win vs. NU
The versatile guard buried the game-winning layup off his own defensive rebound to give the Chiefs a slim two-point lead in the final 56 seconds of the fourth quarter.
The Pirates had several chances to tie or seize the lead, but back-to-back turnovers proved costly, allowing Arellano to pull away and secure its third straight win for a 4–3 record.
Ongotan tallied 10 points laced with three rebounds, three assists, three steals, and one block while Charles Libang chipped in 11 markers, six boards, and a steal as Arellano.
The win marked Arellano's third straight upset over NCAA Season 100 Final Four teams, having previously taken down defending champion Mapúa University and perennial contender San Beda University.
Meanwhile, De La Salle University averted a collapse with a 69-64 escape victory against National University to preserve its unbeaten slate in the preseason showcase.
The Green Archers nearly wasted a 13-point deficit, but hung tough behind timely baskets from Mikey Cortez, the younger brother of transferee Jacob, as they went 3-0 in the UAAP bracket.
Cortez sank the layup that gave the reigning UAAP champions a slim 63-59 lead before burying a massive three-pointer off a cross-court pass from Mason Amos to make it a five-point cushion in the final 28 seconds.
Kean Baclaan then sealed it from the stripe to deal his former team its second straight loss. Baclaan top-scored with 18 points while the older Cortez chipped in 11 markers, five rebounds, and two steals.

Against the Saudis, the young forward posted 17 markers, including two triples in the overtime, while also grabbing three assists, three steals, and one rebound to help steer Gilas to a 95-88 OT escape and book their spot in the quarterfinals. To Cone, these are undeniable proof that Quiambao is growing into a cornerstone of their program. "That's what makes him special. You know, we're still learning a lot about Kevin because he is the young gun on the team. I think he's the youngest player," Cone added. Mike Phillips-led comeback not enough as La Salle bows to Korea University in WUBS finals
Mike Phillips spearheaded a huge fourth-quarter rally for De La Salle University, but Korea University held them off to eke out a 95-85 win in the World University Basketball Series (WUBS) finals on Monday in Japan. The Green Archers erased a 27-point deficit by unleashing a strong second half outing before losing steam in the endgame as they were dethroned by the Koreans. Korea University, meanwhile, completed its redemption bid against the same team that toppled them in last year's edition, where the Green Archers swept the entire tournament to reign supreme. ?La Salle once stared at a 27-point hole when Junhwi Seok sank a layup that sent the Koreans to a 55-28 lead in the second quarter, before they ended the first half enjoying a 57-35 cushion. The Taft crew, though, managed to keep up with Korea University after Jacob Cortez opened the fourth period with a 5-0 personal run while Phillips converted back-to-back baskets to further trim the gap to just 14, 63-77, halfway through the frame. Kean Baclaan then completed a three-point play before Phillips cleaned up his own miss, 72-88. The graduating big man split his free throws before unloading a two-handed slam off his own steal to make it a 79-91 deficit in the final 1:12. But Korea University displayed resilience to close out the game even after a last-gasp triple from Cortez. Lacsina sisters commit to Adamson
Sisters Ize, Ishaa, and Iya Lacsina have committed to the Adamson University girls' volleyball program. They are the sisters of Akari Chargers player Ivy Lacsina in the PVL. Ize Lacsina, 17 years old, is a 5-foot-8 middle blocker, while the 14-year-old outside hitter Iya stands at 5-foot-9. The youngest, 11-year-old Ishaa, is a 5-foot-4. The three sisters will be under the guidance of head coach and former Soaring Falcon JP Yude. Akari Sports, the main sponsor of the Adamson volleyball program, first announced the development last July 14 and was eventually confirmed by the University in an update last August 5.
