Plantation drive kicks off
Coordinator to Prime Minister on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, inaugurated Nestlé Pakistan's first 100,000 trees urban forest plantation drive in Islamabad.
Organised in partnership with Capital Development Authority (CDA), the initiative supports endeavours to reduce carbon footprint in its ambition to achieve Net Zero by 2050.
The forest will include 100,000 indigenous trees comprising Kachnar, Sukhchain, Sapium, Amaltas, Jacaranda, among others. Alam said: "Planting an urban forest is a great example of what can be achieved when the public and private sectors come together with a common goal."
Nestlé Pakistan's Chief Executive Officer, Jason Avanceña said: "Climate change is a reality and we all need to play a proactive role in mitigating this challenge.
We have been continuously investing in sustainability initiatives such as planting urban forests for the wellbeing of our communities. It is our duty to reverse the trend of deforestation and work towards a greener future."

Electric bus fares go up in capital
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has increased the fares of electric buses in the federal capital. The increase in fares has been implemented formally from Sunday. According to sources, the fares of Orange, Green, Blue lines and electric buses have been revised from Rs50 to Rs100. The decision was taken due to some administrative and financial reasons. Around 90,000 passengers travel on these buses daily, sources said, adding that the CDA will soon introduce a new proposed policy of concession on fares in different categories. Under the proposed policy, separate packages will be given to office workers, students and senior citizens. The proposed concessional packages will be for people travelling on a daily, weekly, fortnightly and monthly basis and for those taking bus cards. Sources further said that work is underway on the proposed concessional packages. Notification of the proposed concessional packages will be issued soon. The authority has increased the fare from Rs50 to Rs100, which will be discounted under daily, weekly, fortnightly and monthly packages. CDA Chairman and Islamabad Chief Commissioner, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, has directed relevant authorities to ensure that comprehensive information, including the complete schedule, arrival, and departure times, of the electric buses operating in the capital is made available on Google Maps. The move aims to help residents conveniently plan their journeys from home.

Sector H-13: CDA seals 18 unauthorised buildings, commercial outlets
ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Friday sealed 18 unauthorised buildings and commercial outlets in Sector H-13 of Islamabad. The large-scale operation, carried out by the Directorate General of Building and Housing Control in coordination with the Enforcement Directorate, ICT Administration, and Islamabad Police, was launched on the directives of Chairman CDA, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, and DG Civil Defence Muhammad Ali Randhawa. Jinnah Square Murree Road underpass inaugurated: PM praises armed forces for registering ‘momentous' victory
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday pointed out that Pakistan's armed forces dealt a 'crushing defeat' to India during recent clashes earlier this month, attributing the military success to national unity and divine intervention. Speaking at the inauguration of the Jinnah Square Murree Road underpass, Sharif praised the armed forces for what he described as a 'momentous' victory over India on 10th May, saying it was a triumph 'the enemy will remember until the doomsday.' 'This victory is a special blessing from Almighty Allah and a reflection of the unity and resolve of our nation,' the prime minister said. 'Our glorious history of solidarity will be etched in the enemy's memory forever.' The remarks came as Sharif opened the newly completed infrastructure project in the capital, aimed at improving traffic flow between Islamabad and nearby Murree. The Jinnah Square underpass, which spans approximately 479 metres and features three traffic lanes, was completed in a record 35 days. The prime minister described the project as a 'nationally beneficial initiative' that would reduce congestion and fuel consumption, and benefit not just the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, but the entire country. Sharif also commended the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the contractors, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for completing the project ahead of schedule. He urged city planners to maintain the momentum and continue developing Islamabad's infrastructure and urban landscape. Interior Minister Naqvi, addressing the ceremony, said no compromises had been made on construction quality despite the compressed timeline. He noted that additional work, including landscaping and horticulture, was still under way. 'This is the first time in Pakistan's history that an underpass of this scale has been completed in just 35 days,' Naqvi said.
