New Delhi [India], June 19 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to his Croatian counterpart upon receiving the reprint of the first printed Sanskrit grammar.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted that this gift stands as a symbol of the enduring cultural and intellectual bonds between India and Croatia.
In a post on X, PM Modi said, 'Thank you, Prime Minister Plenkovic. This is indeed a remarkable symbol of the enduring intellectual and cultural bonds between India and Croatia! May these bonds get even stronger in the times to come.'

While in Croatia, PM Plenkovic had presented PM Modi with a reprint of Vezdin's Sanskrit Grammar - the first printed Sanskrit grammar, written in Latin in 1790 by Croatian scientist and missionary Filip Vezdin.
He shared the profound moment in a post on X.
'I presented to the Indian Prime Minister @PMOIndia @narendramodi a reprint of Vezdin's Sanskrit Grammar - the first printed Sanskrit grammar, written in Latin in 1790 by Croatian scientist and missionary Filip Vezdin (1748-1806), based on the knowledge he gained while living in India from Kerala Brahmins and local manuscripts. With this pioneering work, Filip Vezdin became one of the first European scientists to seriously devote himself to Indian languages and culture. At the same time, this is also a symbol of the early cultural ties between Croatia and India.
As part of the gift exchange, I also presented a book, 'Croatia & India, Bilateral Navigator for Croatian Diplomats and Business' by diplomat Dr. Sinisa Grgic, which provides a unique and comprehensive comparative overview of our two countries and explores all dimensions of bilateral relations. This book reflects our achievements, as well as the potential we can still realise, and we believe that it will inspire and encourage the strengthening of our future cooperation and contribute to the further deepening of the mutual friendship between Croatia and India.'

In a video message shared on X, PM Modi had also shared the highlights of his successful visit to Croatia.
In the video message which comprised of snippets from his visit, PM Modi thanked the Croatian leadership and the people for their solidarity to India in the wake of the dastardly Pahalgam terror attack. 'In this tough hour, the support of our friendly countries was invaluable'.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Croatian counterpart Andrej Plenkovic held delegation-level talks in Zagreb on Wednesday, with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stating that the leaders engaged in 'wide-ranging discussions on various aspects of the bilateral partnership.'
According to the MEA, the two leaders reviewed key areas of cooperation, including trade and investment, science and technology, defence and security, space, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people ties. They agreed on the substantial potential to enhance collaboration in infrastructure, ports and shipping, digitalisation, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and hospitality.
The MEA further noted the increasing popularity of Indian culture, Indology, and Yoga in Croatia, calling it a key factor in bringing the peoples of both nations closer. PM Modi conveyed his greetings to yoga enthusiasts in Croatia ahead of International Yoga Day on June 21. (ANI)

Ottawa, June 19 (UNI) Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has said that exchanging high commissioners with India is a 'basic first step' in restoring the diplomatic relationship with New Delhi. Answering a media query on why his government has chosen to reappoint a high commissioner to India following talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Alberta, PM Carney said: 'It's a foundational necessary first step for the relationship, which is to exchange high commissioners, and re-begin effectively diplomatic service, or consular service. 'We have very deep ongoing ties, people to people, not just of Indo-Canadians but of Canadians with India. We don't have a high commissioner in India right now, we are not serving Canadians in India right now, because of where we are. It's reciprocal for the Indian government. 'So having a basic level of engagement is in many respects a duty of the government. I'm glad we came to the agreement understanding. It is also based on several things, the law enforcement cooperation, understanding of issues of transnational repression, which we discussed not just at the G7 but also in the conversation that PM Modi and I had.' To a question on whether the two leaders discussed the issue of the killing of prominent Khalistani and Indo-Canadian Hardeep Singh Nijjar in 2023 in British Columbia, over which issue the relations between the two nations had soured, PM Carney brushed it off, with: 'Look, I never make it a policy to give a line by line transcript readout of what exactly was said in the meeting, and I'm not about to start now.' On June 6, the Canadian PM called up PM Modi to invite him for the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta. Later on June 7, explaining his stance, PM Carney had said that India being the fifth largest economy in the world, having the largest population, and being central to very vital supply global value chains, deserves to be at the G7 Summit table, and that he had spoken to PM Modi to invite him. 'India is the fifth largest economy in the world, effectively the most populous country in the world, central to a number of those supply chains, at the heart of those supply chains, and so that (invite) makes sense. In Bihar, PM Modi To Launch New Vande Bharat, Inaugurate Rs 5,000-Cr Development Projects Today
Last Updated: PM Modi will visit Siwan, Bihar on Friday to launch a new Vande Bharat Express and unveil development projects worth over Rs 5,000 crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Bihar's Siwan on Friday for the launch of a new Vande Bharat Express train and to bring a development package worth over Rs 5,000 crore. According to an official release, the new Vande Bharat Express will be launched to run between Patliputra and Gorakhpur via Muzaffarpur and Bettiah, in a major boost to connectivity in North Bihar. Furthering the vision of 'Make in India – Make for the World', PM Modi will also flag off a state-of-the-art locomotive built at the Marhowra Plant, for export to the Republic of Guinea. This is the first export locomotive manufactured in this factory, and is equipped with high-horsepower engines, an advanced AC propulsion system, microprocessor-based control systems, ergonomic cab designs and incorporates technologies like regenerative braking, according to the release. In line with his commitment to conservation and rejuvenation of the river Ganga, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also inaugurate six Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) under the Namami Gange project worth over Rs 1800 crore, catering to the needs of people in the region. Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for water supply, sanitation and Sewage Treatment Plants worth over Rs 3,000 crore in various towns across Bihar, aiming to provide clean and safe drinking water to the citizens of these towns. In a major boost to power infrastructure in the region, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capacity in the state, the release stated. Standalone BESSs are being installed at 15 grid substations of the state, including Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Bettiah, and Siwan, among others. The capacity of the battery to be installed in each sub-station is between 20 to 80 MWh. It will save the distribution companies from buying electricity at expensive rates by feeding the already stored electricity back to the grid, directly benefiting the consumers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also release the first instalment to more than 53,600 beneficiaries of PMAY U in Bihar. He will also hand over keys to a few beneficiaries to mark the 'Grih Pravesh' ceremony of more than 6,600 completed houses of PMAY U, according to the release. PM Modi's last visit to the state was on May 29-30, when he inaugurated a new 'world-class" terminal of the Patna airport, held a roadshow in the state capital and addressed a rally in Rohtas district where projects worth Rs 50,000 crore were launched. India readies 4-pronged trade deal strategy
Representative Image NEW DELHI: India has drawn up a four-pronged strategy for free trade agreements (FTAs), focused on developed economies, mineral-rich countries, developing nations, and neighbours. The first element is likely to be in place by the year-end through agreements with the US and the European Union. But with negotiations from Chile and Peru to Australia and New Zealand underway, the commerce department is bolstering its negotiating teams while also seeking to ensure that the available preferential tariffs are used by exporters. Recent data suggests that there is now better utilisation of preferential tariffs, especially when it comes to the ones such as UAE, although disaggregated numbers for each country are still being collated by the commerce department. With the benefit of hindsight, the Modi govt, which did not proceed on any of the FTAs in the pipeline until it decided against joining China-led RCEP a few years ago, has a strategy in place with complementarities being the first pillar. "If we are competing for the same set of products, it does not make sense to have an FTA," said an official.
