Severe weather that swept through Central Texas this week left visible major damage at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The storm destroyed the entire centerfield section of the outfield wall. There were even some questions whether the stadium would be ready for the start of the Austin NCAA Regional on Friday.
Crews only had 41.5 hours to make the fixes, requiring an almost total rebuild of the wall. Turns out it didn't take near that about. In less than 24 hours, crews have rebuilt the wall and Texas Athletic Director Chris Del Conte says it's good to go.
Texas, the No. 2 national seed, will open the regional Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. CT against Houston Christian. UTSA and Kansas State will meet in the nightcap.
Disch-Falk Field, the longtime home of the Texas Longhorns, underwent a $27 million renovation in 2009 and remains one of college baseball's premier facilities.
The same storm that damaged Disch-Falk caused widespread damage, including downed trees, damaged roofs, and overturned planes at area airports. While no major injuries were reported, cleanup crews have been working to clear debris and restore normalcy in affected neighborhoods.
Just in case something happens, the Dell Diamond in Round Rock is the backup plan. The stadium 30 minutes from the UT Campus is the home of the Triple-A Round Rock Express, a Texas Rangers affiliate.

Olympic champion Lilly King will swim final US meet at IU Natatorium in Indianapolis
Six-time Olympic swimming medalist Lilly King announced on Instagram that she will retire after this season. King, an Evansville native who won NCAA titles while at Indiana University, said in her announcement that she "accomplished everything I have ever wanted in this sport. I feel fulfilled." At the 2024 Olympics in Paris, King helped the women's 4x100-meter medley relay set a world record of 3:49.63 in the final event.

(AP) — Freshman Luke Costello had two home runs and five RBIs, Logan Lunceford got two big outs in the ninth inning and Wake Forest held off a late rally by Miami (Ohio) for a 14-13 victory on Saturday in the Knoxville Regional. Wake Forest (37-21) will play either No. 14 national seed Tennessee or Cincinnati in an elimination game on Sunday. The first regional appearance for Miami (35-23) since 2005 came to an end. Advertisement Joe Ariola came on with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh and walked two as Miami got within 13-9. Haiden Leffew entered and got out of the inning with a strikeout. Wake Forest DH Kade Lewis lined a shot off the left-field wall to score Marek Houston from first to extend the lead to 14-9 in the eighth. It was Lewis' 25th multi-hit game of the season. Leffew allowed two quick runs in the ninth before Lunceford entered with the bases loaded. Blake Buzzeo singled on the first pitch and the left fielder misplayed it allowing two to score. Lunceford got a pop up and a strikeout to end it for his first save of the season.
