Harry's Girl, circled, was travelling in the stands-side group when she sadly broke her leg and died in the first race on day two of Royal Ascot
She was travelling at the back of the stands-side group in the 5f Queen Mary Stakes when she appeared to stumble.
Jockey Sean Levey did his absolute best to stop the filly running as quickly as possible - but sadly she could not be saved.
Classic-winning trainer Hannon, who was another of her co-owners, posted a message on X describing his despair at the sad loss.
He wrote: "After the highs of Tuesday, we are absolutely heartbroken to have lost Harry's Girl on Wednesday afternoon at Ascot.
"She was a lovely filly with a fantastic character.
"Our sympathies go out to everyone that looked after her and loved her at home, and of course to her owners."
ITV Racing presenter Ed Chamberlin said the incident was 'horrible' - and cast a shadow over the contest won by Aidan O'Brien's True Love.
He said: "We've just had this confirmed by Ascot - Harry's Girl did suffer a fatal injury.
"Our thoughts go out to connections.
"It's desperately sad for the Hannon team after they celebrated with their winner Haatem yesterday."
The filly was a big favourite at Hannon's Marlborough yard.
Speaking before the race, the popular trainer said: "She's a very precocious filly who won well on debut at the Craven meeting and did everything right bar win at York in the Listed Marygate Fillies' Stakes.
"I really thought she'd win that day and she appeared home and hosed but got caught close home by a fast finisher on the other side of the track which she didn't see coming.
"Her work has been very good, and she looks magnificent in her coat.
"It's a typically competitive Queen Mary, but she's a strong traveller with plenty of boot and this race has been the plan all along so I'm hopeful of a bold show."
Harry's Girl, who was bought for £36,000 last August, won on debut at Newmarket in April this year.
She was then a hugely promising second in a Listed contest at York last month.
The daughter of former champion sprinter Harry Angel was given odds of 16-1 for the Royal Ascot Group 2 but her trainer clearly thought a lot of her.
Sadly she will never get the chance to fulfill that potential.

I've had so much filler now my huge lips are LEAKING – trolls say I should ‘buy a puncture repair kit in Halfords'
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A WOMAN has shared the shocking reality of what can happen if you have too much filler injected into your lips. Sarah-Jane Sinclair, a 28-year-old mother from Harlow, Essex, used to look like your typical girl next door until she got a drastic makeover six years ago with tattoos, fake tan, long nails and lip filler. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 A filler fan has revealed that her plump pout is leaking Credit: tiktok/@essexxink 2 Sarah-Jane Sinclair was left gobsmacked by the filler migration and gave her followers a close-up look at her pout Credit: tiktok/@essexxink Now, the brunette has been labelled the 'Poundland Katie Price' after showing off her fake look online. Not only does she get Botox every few months, but she also gets her plump pout maintained every two to three months - with 2ml of filler injected each time. While Sarah-Jane, a self-confessed tattoo addict, loves her enhanced appearance, she has now been left lost for words after noticing filler leaking from her huge lips. Posting on social media, the inked woman who has previously been slammed as 'demonic' for her unique look, squeezed her top lip, only for a clear liquid to leak out. Stunned by her leaky lips, Sarah-Jane, who posts online under the username 'Essex Ink', wrote: 'My lips are leaking filler. 'I noticed some bumps so [I] squeezed them. This was the result.' Showing off the migrated filler, she gasped: 'Can you see that? That is f*****g filler coming out of my f*****g lips.' Opening her mouth is disbelief at her lip filler which she claimed had 'gone wrong', she continued: 'What the f**k?! I'm shook.' According to Karidis Clinic London, the rise in popularity of over-exaggerated pouts and trends such as the 'Russian lip' has led to an increase in issues with lip filler migration. These techniques typically involve multiple punctures of the lip border, making it likely that filler can leak out. Nurse, 36, shocked after 'routine' lip filler ended up in a cancer diagnosis To avoid filler leaking from lips, you must ensure to avoid overfilling. You should only use trusted dermal filler brands, follow aftercare advice and choose a reputable practitioner. Social media users react The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @essexxink, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 695,400 views in just 11 hours. Not only this, but it's also amassed 11,400 likes and 845 comments, with many trolls sharing their thoughts on the lip filler fail. Are you surprised? There's lip filler and then there's over the top lip filler TikTok user One person joked: 'Buy a puncture repair kit in Halfords.' Another added: 'Your body [is] trying to tell you something.' A third laughed: 'Buy a plastic pool repair kit.' At the same time, one beauty enthusiast gasped: 'Whoever did this to you needs their license taken away.' What are the risks of lip fillers? THE RISKS of dermal fillers depend on whether the procedure was done correctly and the type of filler used. The NHS recommends you speak to your practitioner about the risks beforehand. Serious problems are rare but can include: Infection A lumpy appearance under the skin, which might need to be treated with surgery or medicine The filler moving away from the intended treatment area, which may need to be removed using surgery Scarring Blocked blood vessels in the face, which can cause tissue death and permanent blindness You should see your GP if you have any complications that need medical attention and speak to your practitioner if you're not happy with the results or experience lumpiness. Source: NHS Whilst someone else questioned: 'I mean, are you honestly surprised?" Not only this, but another agreed and asked: 'I come with no hate but are you surprised? There's lip filler and then there's over the top lip filler.' Meanwhile, others shared their advice for Sarah-Jane, as one recommended: 'Go to the doctor.' A second chimed in: 'Just keep the area clean, ice if necessary, take anti inflammatories and try not to squeeze them. Monitor it and see your GP if symptoms worsen, you develop a fever or you think the wound has become infected.' A third then suggested: 'Don't squeeze it lovely, speak to your esthetician, she may have some advice to help you.' Shoppers have insisted the blue and white daisy-print Sainsbury's dress is "so comfortable to wear in the heat" thanks to its lightweight material and flowy design. And the timing couldn't be better to snap it up, with temperatures set to hit highs of 33C across the UK, and 27C in Scotland. The Gingham Daisy Midaxi Tea Dress comes in sizes six to 24. Describing it on the website, the Tu Clothing team say: "Introduce beautiful florals to your wardrobe with our blue gingham tea dress. "Cut to a flattering midi length, this dress has been designed with a pretty daisy pattern throughout. "It's finished with short elasticated sleeves, button fastening and a thin waist belt." The £26 frock is currently on sale for just £18.20, so it's the perfect time to pick it up for your summer wardrobe. But it's completely sold out online, so you'll need to be quick to nab it in your nearest store. And it has already racked up five-star reviews from delighted fashion fans. Tesco fans are set to love the latest items in stores for 25 per cent off when you use clubcard One said: "Really pretty, lovely fit, size 14, calf length, I'm 5'8, so will be longer if you're shorter, it's polyester but feels more like viscose/cotton, so comfortable to wear in heat." "Lovely dress true to size. Fabric is very easy to wash and only needs quick iron", chimed in a second. A third gushed: "This is my new season summer dress. As soon as I saw this I wanted to try it on. I had to travel to another store to find my size. "I would say it comes up a little big, but as it's for summer I did not want a tight fit. "It hangs well and the split at the front is flattering and not too high. I wore it the next day and got lots of compliments." "Looking forward to summer to wear the dress", revealed a fourth. A fifth added: "I bought this dress ready for spring and summer. It's so fresh looking and summery and it just fits so well." Meanwhile, a sixth wrote: "This dress is gorgeous and very flattering, I bought it as i had a similar one many many years ago and I literally wore it out. "Seeing this today I grabbed it and the same dress in the green which is also gorgeous. Buttons are fidly but once it's on, done and you only need to use the first 4 buttons really at the top. "I'm going to keep my eyes open for more colours it's that amazing." Is supermarket fashion the new high street? DEPUTY Fashion Editor Abby McHale weighs in: The supermarkets have really upped their game when it comes to their fashion lines. These days, as you head in to do your weekly food shop you can also pick up a selection of purse-friendly, stylish pieces for all the family. Tesco has just announced a 0.7 per cent increase in the quarter thanks to a 'strong growth in clothing' and M&S has earnt the title of the number one destination for womenswear on the high street. Asda's clothing line George has made £1.5 million for the supermarket in 2023, 80 per cent of Sainsbury's clothes sold at full price rather than discounted and Nutmeg at Morrisons sales are also up 2 per cent in the past year. So what is it about supermarket fashion that is becoming so successful? Apart from the clothing actually being affordable, it's good quality too - with many being part of schemes such as the Better Cotton Initiative. A lot of the time they keep to classic pieces that they know will last the customer year after year. Plus because they buy so much stock they can turn around pieces quickly and buy for cheaper because of the volumes.

Great British Menu star suddenly closes city centre restaurant after just 18 months as chef issues sombre warning
The owners blamed rising costs and taxes for the sudden closure SHUTTERS DOWN Great British Menu star suddenly closes city centre restaurant after just 18 months as chef issues sombre warning Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A TRENDY restaurant in the heart of Manchester is closing down just 15 months after first opening its doors to punters. Medlock Canteen in Deansgate was co-founded by Great British Menu star Sam Grainger and first launched in March last year. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 Sam Grainger starred in Great British Menu Credit: BBC 3 His latest restaurant, Medlock Canteen, is closing down Credit: Medlock Canteen Its owners announced the sad of social media, saying there were too many factors at play that would allow the restaurant to stay open any longer. The restaurant was a fusion of a French bistro and American diner that served bottomless coffees and chicken rotisserie among many other delectable items. "With heavy hearts, we're announcing the closure of Medlock Canteen," the restaurant began in a statement posted to Instagram. "When we opened our doors 18 months ago, our dream was simple: to build a neighbourhood spot where everyone felt welcome, serving proper good food you know, love and can't wait to eat." The statement continued: "But the current climate has made that dream a tough one to sustain. Rising costs, increased taxes, and tighter spending have created challenges we've fought hard to overcome but, sadly, they're ones we just can't compete with. "We're proud to say our amazing team has been looked after, with payroll up to date and everyone offered roles elsewhere in our family of venues. "If you've got opportunities going, drop us a message - we'd love to pass them on to anyone ready for their next chapter." The restaurant's three owners concluded: "To everyone who dined, left us a rave review, shared a laugh, or came back for seconds: thank you. You made this little place feel truly special. "And yes, we promise, one day, somehow, we'll get that rhubarb pie back to you! Chris, Owain and Sam x." The three restaurateurs then offered anyone left in the lurch without a booking at the sudden closure of Medlock Canteen a 20 percent discount at their other eateries, Madre, Salon and Winsome. Sam, who hails from Liverpool, first fell in love with food thanks to his West Indian grandfather. He then travelled around the world to hone his skills as a cook, including a stint in Australia and Asia. Sam also owns the restaurant Belzan, which is his flagship eatery in Liverpool, a street food Mexican joint called Escape to Freight Island in Manchester and Madre an authentic Mexican taqueria in the Royal Albert Dock.
