Fenerbahce Stun Feyenoord To Move Into UEFA Champions League Qualifying Play-Offs
Fenerbahce, who had lost 2-1 to Feyenoord last week, rallied to post a 5-2 second leg triumph over Robin van Persie's side to advance at the cost of the Dutch team.
Turkish side Fenerbahce fought hard to post a come-from-behind win over Dutch club Feyenoord on Wednesday to advance to the UEFA Champions League Qualifying Playoffs with a 6-4 win on aggregate.
Fenerbahce, who had lost 2-1 to Feyenoord last week, turned the tie on its head in the second leg with a 5-2 triumph over Robin van Persie's side to advance at the cost of the Dutch team.
Feyenoord defender Tsuyoshi Watanabe scored the first of his two goals for the Dutch team after 41 minutes. However, Mourinho's squad responded with goals from Archie Brown and Jhon Duran just before halftime, bringing the hosts back into contention. Fred, Youssef En-Nesyri, and Talisca each netted in an exciting second half, securing a 5-2 victory for the night.
Next week, Fenerbahce will host Benfica in the first leg of the playoff round with a spot in the 36-team league phase up for grabs. In Lisbon, Benfica triumphed over Nice with a 2-0 win on the night, courtesy of goals from Norwegian duo Fredrik Aursnes and Andreas Schjelderup, resulting in a 4-0 aggregate score.
Rangers progressed past Czech team Viktoria Plzen with a 4-2 aggregate win and will next face Club Brugge, who reached the Champions League last 16 last season. Rangers had won 3-0 at Ibrox the previous week but suffered a 2-1 defeat on Tuesday, with Lyall Cameron scoring his first goal for the club as a consolation.
Rangers manager Russell Martin said, '"We had some really good moments, but disappointed how many shots we gave them, how many chances we gave them," following the vitory.
'So, again, another brilliant bit of learning and we're through to the last qualifying round for the Champions League, but I am annoyed.
'That wasn't enough. There's too many scary moments," he added.
