The Sun27-05-2025

NIBONG TEBAL: A total of 500 Form Six students from B40 families will receive RM100 in monthly cash aid starting this month until December 2025 under the Farm Fresh Berhad STPM Student Bursary Programme.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said 500 students from 10 states in Peninsular Malaysia had been identified as the initial recipients of the programme.
'It is hoped that this initiative will help elevate the quality of education for these students, apart from inspiring and motivating them to succeed in life and pursue their studies to the highest level,' she told reporters after launching the programme at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tun Syed Sheh Barakbah here today.
Fadhlina also expressed appreciation to Farm Fresh for the initiative, describing it as a form of corporate social responsibility (CSR) that addresses the current needs of Form Six students.
She said the Ministry of Education (MOE) hopes to see more corporate companies step forward to support the education ecosystem and elevate national education through similar programmes.
She said the MOE remains committed to making Form Six one of the top choices for students pursuing studies after Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and the rebranding effort is part of a strategic move in line with the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025 to empower inclusive and competitive post-secondary pathways.
To ensure continuity and equitable access to education, she said the government has also extended the Early Schooling Aid (BAP) to Form Six students starting this year, benefitting more than 100,000 students with a total allocation of RM15 million.
Farm Fresh has been appointed as the school milk supplier for 10 states across five zones (Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya).
In addition to the STPM bursary programme which will continue until 2029 with new recipients selected annually, Farm Fresh has also planned several CSR programmes as part of the spillover benefits from the school milk supply contract.
These include the Bijak Mengira tuition programme, national subsidised milk competition, Multidimensi Plus, World School Milk Day celebration, and the School-to-Farm programme.

Registrations now open for Malaysia's largest padel tournament

THE Volvo Padel Open is set to return in 2025 with its most ambitious edition yet, promising a larger prize pool, expanded competition categories, and enhanced participant experience. The tournament, recognised as the largest of its kind in Malaysia, will run from June 21 to July 27 2025, with registration now officially open. Organised in collaboration with three prominent padel venues in the Klang Valley – Joy Division Padel, Padelground, and PadelKu – this year's tournament will accommodate up to 320 players. Competitors will vie for a share of prizes exceeding RM180,000 in value, including cash, merchandise, complimentary court hours, and an exclusive week-long experience in a fully-electric Volvo vehicle. The registration window closes on July 3, 2025, with a one-off entry fee of RM160 per person or RM320 per team. In a show of appreciation to its customers, Volvo is offering a 50% discount on individual registration fees for Volvo vehicle owners. Acknowledging the rising calibre of local players, the 2025 edition introduces three refined competition categories – Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced – aimed at accommodating both seasoned competitors and those new to the sport. The Beginner category will now feature an 'americano' format during the qualifying rounds, enabling individual players to partner with multiple teammates in a rotation system. Points are earned through each match, and the top 16 male and female scorers will move on to the semifinals, which are divided into men's and women's divisions. Intermediate and Advanced players will participate in men's or mixed team formats from the outset. Qualifying rounds will adopt a round-robin structure with sets capped at five games. Those advancing will face off in elimination matches played to seven games, with finalists competing in a full match format. To ensure equitable competition, players in the Beginner and Intermediate tiers must undergo skill assessments conducted by professional coaches prior to the tournament. These evaluations will determine appropriate category placement based on actual playing ability. In preparation for the main event, coaching clinics will be made available at no cost for participants in the Beginner and Intermediate categories. Conducted in groups of four, the hour-long sessions are designed to build skills and instil confidence among newer players. The tournament will culminate in a grand finale on July 27. 2025 at the newly unveiled JOY2 complex – Joy Division Padel's latest venue in Jalan Penchala, Petaling Jaya. Featuring two tournament-grade courts, the finals will be open to the public, with exclusive hospitality services provided for all registered participants. The 2025 Volvo Padel Open also benefits from the support of key sponsors. Tactical Padel is the official equipment provider, contributing tournament balls, branded merchandise, and winner prizes. Glacéau vitaminwater, distributed by Coca-Cola Malaysia, will serve as the event's official energy drink, while creative production is managed by Directors' ThinkTank. Those interested in competing in this premier sporting event are encouraged to secure their slots early, as participation is capped. Registration is available online via

Kota Kinabalu: Preparations are underway for Sabah to host the two-day Asean Travel Exchange (ATE) 2025 this month, says State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew. Basically, ATE 2025 is a premier Business 2 Business (B2B) networking event in Sabah, connecting travel trade sellers and regional buyers to foster partnerships and collaborations on June 19 and 20. Zahid announces joint committee to boost Malaysian franchises in UK

LONDON: A joint committee between Malaysian and United Kingdom (UK) franchise business associations will be established to strengthen Malaysia's franchise ecosystem in the UK, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The Rural and Regional Development Minister said the initiative would serve as a support platform to help Malaysian franchise brands penetrate the UK market by next year. "There are plenty of opportunities for Malaysian companies to expand their franchise businesses in the UK, especially in halal-related sectors such as food, traditional medicine and cosmetics. "I will chair the Cabinet committee on franchises. I will obtain reports on the progress that can be made promptly, and I will review the achievements every six months when I chair this Cabinet committee twice a year," he told a press conference here Tuesday. Earlier, he attended the Malaysia-UK Franchise Business Dialogue, held in conjunction with his four-day working visit to the UK. Zahid added that Malaysia is also committed to supporting the franchise ecosystem through financing policies by the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) and digital grants from the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), to achieve RM100 billion in sales by 2030. He said closer cooperation would be pursued to encourage UK franchises to explore the Asean market via Malaysia, while at the same time promoting the expansion of Malaysian brands into the UK market through the proposed committee. – BERNAMA
