On suspicion, samples of two persons were sent to Pune for testing.
It may be recalled that a 27-year-old woman tested positive, and it came to light very late. By that time, she recovered, and her family members also tested negative a week later.
The teenage girl was admitted a couple of days ago with fever and other symptoms. The RT-PCR test result was positive, and the girl was put under the supervision of doctors in the isolation ward.
In most cases, it was the Omicron variant. Following the increase in Covid-19 cases, the district authorities arranged a 50-bed isolation ward, Covid kits, and medicines.
KGH superintendent, Dr Sivananda, told TOI that they are testing around 50 to 60 people everyday. "Every case of fever is not a Covid case. People with health ailments such as heart-related, lung, and kidney issues should go for tests if the fever does not subside in five days. So far, oxygen has not been required for patients who are recuperating within five to six days. People should not panic," he said.

New Zealander reads about Bengaluru in media, picks city for cancer treatment

Bengaluru: For New Zealander Dave Pipe, it was perhaps a last shot at life. The 69-year-old from Christchurch, who had been battling multiple myeloma for years, found fresh hope in the unlikeliest of places — a newspaper article on Bengaluru's medical expertise! The story was about a fellow Kiwi who had travelled all the way to Bengaluru for CAR T-cell therapy and gone into remission. For Pipe, who had already endured 20 cycles of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant, it felt like the only ray of hope left. "In New Zealand, laws don't allow doctors to recommend treatments outside the country since care is covered under public health. I had a bone marrow transplant in 2023, but remission lasted only 14 months. By Feb 2025, the cancer was back. A new drug was tried but it failed, and by May, doctors told me I had reached the end of the road," Pipe recalled. "That's when I read about CAR T-cell therapy, where my own T-cells would be modified and infused back into me to fight cancer. The newspaper report spoke of a professor who underwent the same treatment in Bengaluru and had been in remission for a year. That convinced me," he explained. After the initial chemo and final Car-T infusion in the city, Pipe said: "It was an anticlimax. Doctors asked me how I felt. I felt bored and only stared at the nine faces that were surrounding me," he laughed, thanking Bengaluru's medical specialists. Robotic cardiac procedures City hospitals across the board are seeing patients coming in from abroad for advanced treatments. In the past three years alone, 93 patients came to Sakra World Hospital from outside India for robotic cardiac surgeries. "While conventional open-heart surgery typically requires 8-10 days of hospital stay and 2-3 months for full recovery, patients at Sakra undergoing robotic cardiac procedures are often discharged within 3-4 days, with most returning to normal life in 2-3 weeks," said hospital representatives. Tobacco, gutkha reach tribal areas faster than basic amenities: Dr Amte

Nagpur: Tobacco products like gutkha, cigarettes, and bidis are reaching remote and tribal areas faster than essential services such as healthcare and education, leading to a rise in oral cancer and respiratory diseases, according to Padma Shri Dr Prakash Amte. Speaking at the unveiling of a white paper under the city police's 'Operation Thunder' at the National Fire College in Nagpur, Dr Amte highlighted that oral cancer has affected young men, women, and even schoolchildren in these areas. Dr Amte urged the extension of 'Operation Thunder', which targets narcotics, to remote regions. "When I first went to Hemalkasa, poverty was the disease there. Now the nature of these diseases has changed," he said and added that at the same time it is satisfying to know that educated youth from tribal community are giving priority to jobs in rural and remote areas. He praised the resilience of tribal youth and their commitment to working in rural areas. Dr Ravinder Singal said that 'Operation Thunder' has destroyed drugs worth Rs10 crore and apprehended 645 traffickers, focusing on dismantling narcotics supply networks. During the event, individuals who overcame addiction were honoured by Dr Amte. The event was attended by dignitaries including Dr Mandakini Amte, senior police officials. Joint police commissioner Navinchandra Reddy made introductory remarks, and deputy commissioner Mahak Swami delivered the vote of thanks. Severe staff crunch hits vet dept in Dharwad

Dharwad: Farmers and dairy units in Dharwad are facing severe hardship due to an acute shortage of staff in the animal husbandry and veterinary sciences department. They have urged the govt to act without delay and fill the long-pending vacancies. The dept is operating with just 49% of its required workforce, resulting in an overwhelming burden on the existing staff. According to the 20th Livestock Census, Dharwad district is home to 2.3 lakh large cattle, 1.3 lakh sheep and goats, 3.9 lakh pigs and 14.5 poultry. The National Livestock Mission guidelines stipulate that there should be one veterinary inspector for every 5,000 livestock, but in Dharwad district, a single inspector is catering to 11,000 livestock. Of the 452 sanctioned posts in the district, only 185 have been filled — leaving 267 posts vacant. Some of these posts have been lying vacant for the past 3-5 years. The farmers rue that the staff crunch has affected the emergency services like cattle vaccination. According to official sources, the shortage includes key posts such as 26 senior veterinary medical officers, three cattle development officers, 61 senior vet inspectors, 24 vet inspectors, 128 'D' group staff, six drivers, four chief animal health inspectors and several SDAs and technical posts. With one officer often managing 3-4 veterinary clinics, farmers say the emergency services are affected. "The officer has to close one clinic temporarily to attend to emergencies in another, leaving us waiting outside closed clinics for a long time. Delay in treatment has led to death of livestock in some cases," said a farmer. Acknowledging the dire situation , Dr SV Santi , deputy director of animal husbandry and veterinary services, said a proposal has already been sent to higher officials for filling the vacant posts.
