Welcome to the New Nuclear Age. It's Even More Chaotic.

China's rise, Russia's aggression and America's unreliability could fuel a wave of atomic-weapons proliferation.

Nuclear weapons focus the mind. So when India and Pakistan fight, the world watches, because any clash between the two could become the first nuclear war since 1945.
The most recent round of their subcontinental contest seems to have settled, thanks partly to US intervention. Just a day after Vice President JD Vance scoffed that the quarrel was none of America's business, he was working the phones to stop a slide down the slippery nuclear slope. But if this crisis has ebbed, the nuclear peril hasn't. The world is entering a new nuclear era, one more complex, and potentially far less stable, than the nuclear eras that came before.

Trump gets 'golden share' power in US Steel buyout. US agencies will get it under future presidents

HARRISBURG, Pa. — President Donald Trump will control the so-called 'golden share' that's part of the national security agreement under which he allowed Japan-based Nippon Steel to buy out iconic American steelmaker U.S. Steel, according to disclosures with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The provision gives the president the power to appoint a board member and have a say in company decisions that affect domestic steel production and competition with overseas producers.

Trump's Reason For Not Ending Ukraine War In 24 Hours Brutally Mocked

President Donald Trump had to admit his failure to fulfill one of his most popular ― and ludicrous ― campaign promises on Wednesday. During the 2024 campaign, Trump repeatedly claimed he could end the war between Russia and Ukraine in 24 hours and even told Fox News' Sean Hannity he was '100% sure' he could keep that promise. However, despite Trump's subsequent election and inauguration in January, the war between Russia and Ukraine has continued with no real end in sight. Trump didn't have a decent answer on Wednesday when Austrian reporter Johannes Petrov noted, 'You once said that you would end the Ukraine war in 24 hours. You later said you said that sarcastically.' 'Of course I said that sarcastically,' Trump replied, which prompted Petrov to ask, 'But you've been in office for five months and five days, why have you not been able to end the Ukraine war?' At first, Trump admitted that ending geopolitical conflicts between rival countries is 'more difficult than people would have any idea.' He also played the blame game. 'Vladimir Putin has been more difficult,' he said about the Russian president. 'Frankly, I had some problems with [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy, you may have read about them. And it's been more difficult than other wars,' Trump said, before listing the various wars he's had an easier time 'ending.' Here's a clip of the exchange. Reporter: 'You once said you would end the Ukraine war in 24 hours… You've now been in office for five months and five days. Why have you not been able to end the Ukraine war?'Trump: 'Because it's more difficult than people would have any idea.' — The Bulwark (@BulwarkOnline) June 25, 2025 Of course, people on social media had thoughts about Trump's inability to end the Russia-Ukraine war in 24 hours. And, yes, there was snark. Lots and lots of snark. Trump being called out on lie, blames everyone else lol — Gamecock Joe- Beamer Train!! Mamdani's Rent-Freeze Agenda Sparks Slide in NYC-Linked REITs

Shares of companies linked to New York City real estate fell Wednesday as Zohran Mamdani, a state Assembly member who has vowed to freeze rents, looks all but certain to become the Democratic nominee for mayor. During his campaign ahead of Tuesday's primary, Mamdani called for a progressive agenda that also included cheaper groceries at government-owned stores and making city buses free, to be financed in part by tax increases. Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who conceded Tuesday night, has said Mamdani's plans would spur wealthy residents to leave.
