Delhi CM urges people to plant trees in mothers' honour, launches ‘Van Mahotsav'
The CM kicked off the Tree Plantation Campaign 2025 from PBG Ground in Delhi Ridge area where she planted a sapling in memory of her mother, urging residents to plant as many trees as possible in and around their homes, neighborhoods, schools, offices, and community spaces.
On this occasion, the CM said a new era is emerging in Delhi's green heritage through this year's 'Van Mahotsav'. She alleged that past governments neither participated in, nor paid attention to meaningful initiatives like 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' campaign.
Tree plantation efforts were long neglected. However, she expressed satisfaction at the 2025 Van Mahotsav, organised by the Delhi government, being designed with active public participation at its core.
The CM further said trees are not merely tools for cleaning the environment but are living guardians to provide clean air to future generations.
'With this in mind, the government has set an ambitious target of planting more than 7 million saplings this year,' the CM said, urging Delhiites to join the movement and treat tree plantation as collective social responsibility.
'If an individual plants at least one tree annually, and commits to its care, Delhi can once again move towards becoming a greener and cleaner city in near future,' she added.

The Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi government to provide two months' notice to staff members of Mohalla Clinics in case it proposes to terminate their services before March 31 next year. The court's order came while dealing with a petition filed by staff members of Mohalla Clinics hired on a contractual basis by the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. The petitioners, employed as pharmacists, assistants, and multitask workers, had sought directions against their termination and replacement with other contractual employees. However, at least seven Mohalla Clinics have already been converted into U-AAMs under the Centre's Ayushman Bharat scheme. Following a protest on May 17 by the staff of Mohalla Clinics, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had given them an assurance that existing paramedical and support staff would be adjusted within U-AAMs.

Atishi writes to CM over water crisis in Kalkaji after reservoir submergence

Addressing a press conference, Gupta said the Delhi School Education (Fee Determination and Transparency in Regulation) Bill, 2025, which was passed in Delhi Assembly on Friday, seeks to prevent arbitrary fee hikes and make private schools accessible to children from all sections of society, including those from underprivileged backgrounds. "There are 1,733 private schools in Delhi, nearly 300 of which were given land at concessional rates by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA)," Gupta said. The chief minister said the provisions will apply to all the private schools in Delhi, not just those allotted DDA land, and that fines ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 10 lakh will be imposed for unauthorised fee hikes, with the penalty doubling in case of delayed payment. Gupta said the Bill was drafted after consultations with education experts and parents, with a focus on protecting parents' interests without putting undue pressure on the schools. Criticising the previou AAP government, she alleged that despite tall claims of an education revolution, the sector was plagued by corruption and inefficiency.
