2 Shifts Create "Arbitrariness": Supreme Court On NEET-PG 2025 Exam Schedule
NEET PG Supreme Court hearing: The Supreme Court has directed that National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), a national-level entrance exam for admission to undergraduate medical courses, should be conducted in one shift instead of two. The top court was hearing a petition challenging a notification on holding NEET-PG 2025 examination in two shifts. The court said that holding the exam in two shifts "creates arbitrariness" and directed National Testing Agency (NTA) to make arrangements for holding the exam in one shift. The NEET-PG exam is scheduled to be held on June 15.
"The question papers in two shifts can never be of the same difficulty level. Last year, it (NEET-PG 2024) may have been held in two shifts in the facts and circumstances of that stage. But the examining body ought to have considered making arrangements for holding the examination in one shift," the bench headed by Justice Vikram Nath, and also comprising Justices Sanjay Kumar and N V Anjaria, observed while giving the judgement. It asked the NTA to ensure complete transparency in holding the exam.
The result of the computer-based exam is expected to be declared on July 15.
The bench had on May 5 sought a response from the NBE, National Medical Council, and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on the plea.
Recently, the top court delivered a verdict issuing a slew of directions to stop seat-blocking in NEET-PG counselling and directed publication of raw scores, answer keys and normalisation formulae of the exam.
The plea, challenging the conduct of NEET-PG exam in two shifts, said it has the potential for unfairness due to varying difficulty levels between shifts. It was filed by one Aditi and others.

Chennai: In a reprieve to a post-graduate student of Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, who was suspended for graffitiing 'Jai Bhim' and 'Free Palestine' in his hostel room, Madras high court stayed his suspension. Justice T V Thamilselvi also directed the institute to permit S Aslam to appear for exams and the internship programme. The court passed the interim order on a plea moved by the second-year MSW student challenging the suspension order dated May 25. According to the petitioner, on May 24, Avinav Thakur, assistant registrar, visited hostel premises with the warden and assistant warden and found 'Jai Bhim' and 'Free Palestine' graffiti on the wall. An inquiry committee was constituted. Since the petitioner and some other students exposed a pending sexual assault case against Kumar in Jharkhand, he influenced the committee and forced some students to depose against him, the petitioner said. Without providing an opportunity to the petitioner, the committee arbitrarily suspended him, the petitioner's counsel said, adding that if he is not permitted to attend the internship programme, it would be of irreparable loss to the petitioner. Recording the submissions, the court passed the interim order considering the welfare of the petitioner. The court directed the institute to issue a hall ticket to him so he can attend the exam and also permit him to attend the block placement programme in the social service department. The court then adjourned the hearing to June 25.

Nashik: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut called for deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde's resignation from his position as minister for public works (public enterprises), following Supreme Court's strictures on the MMRDA tender process. The Supreme Court passed strictures on the tender related to the Thane Ghodbunder Bhayandar twin tunnel. Raut said, "There was a direct appreciation of Rs 3,000crore in the Rs 14,000crore contract for the twin tunnel. L&T challenged the tender in the Supreme Court, which passed strictures." Raut expressed concern about chief minister Devendra Fadnavis's inaction towards state corruption. "After the Supreme Court's strictures, all that Fadnavis said was that he would not tolerate corruption in the bureaucracy. How did Fadnavis fail to see the corruption in this case and fail to take any action against it?" he asked. Addressing NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar's potential alignment with BJP, Raut assured that Pawar's supporters were certain he would not join communal forces. "Pawar has been the torchbearer of Shahu, Phule, and Ambedkar ideologies, and all those who are with Sharad Pawar are confident that he will never join hands with such forces," said Raut. Raut criticised the three ministers from Jalgaon regarding a tribal woman's roadside delivery. 35,726 teachers being recruited by West Bengal School Service Commission: Details
Almost. a month since the Supreme Court ruled that the previous recruitment of school teachers in West Bengal "vitiated and tainted," the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has released a new notification to appoint 35,726 teachers in state-aided late Thursday evening on the official website of the commission, the notice sets out the recruitment of 23,312 teachers for classes 9 and 10, and 12,514 teachers for classes 11 and 12 in secondary and higher secondary to the guidelines, candidates should be within the age group of 21 to 40 years. Relaxations in the upper age will be extended—5 years for SC/ST candidates, 3 years for OBC candidates, and 8 years for physically disabled candidates. Candidates will also be provided with carbon copies of their OMR sheets, which will be kept with them for a duration of three years.
