Honouring 47 students
The council hosted on Wednesday the festival's closing ceremony, which included honouring the participating students from Al-Aqd Al-Fareed Primary School and Al-Husn Secondary School. A total of 47 students were honoured in a festive atmosphere graced by the presence of parents who expressed their appreciation for the efforts made.
The festival lasted for ten days, filled with interactive activities and creative workshops specifically designed to develop Arabic language skills among students in early grades and kindergarten.
National identity
Activities varied, covering key topics in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, using modern methods that combined fun and education. They were supervised by co-teacher Anwar Ahmed Al Salami, who excelled in presenting distinctive educational narrative content, blending the aesthetics of the Arabic language with the spirit of national identity, within an artistic educational vision that strengthens young people's sense of belonging to their language and heritage.
The final day featured a post-test to measure the educational and pedagogical impact of the festival. The results were compared to the pre-test conducted on the first day, allowing for an accurate reading of the level of improvement and development in the language skills of the participating students.
Supporting the educational process
The festival was organised as part of the operational plan of the Parents Councils at SDAD. This initiative reflects the councils' commitment to enhancing their role in supporting the educational process and providing enriching learning environments that enhance the status of the Arabic language among the new generation, instilling in them a love of expression and a sense of belonging to their identity and language.
The festival resonated widely with parents, who expressed their appreciation for the high level of organisation and the quality of the educational activities. They praised their positive impact on their children and their motivation to use the Arabic language with confidence and creativity.
In a celebratory closing ceremony, writer Anwar Al Salami was honoured, along with the participating students, and awards and certificates of appreciation were distributed. This reflects the council's commitment to enhancing learning motivation, fostering a culture of excellence, and sustaining purposeful educational programs that celebrate the language and bring it to life in the hearts of generations.

UAE: Meet Emirati woman helping turn toxic waste into clean water
As evidenced by many Emirati women, the words of the late Sheikh Zayed, father and founder of the country ring true: 'Nothing should stop the progress of women.' For Raisa Salem Al Mansoori, the leadership of her country was the driving force in pursuing an unlikely occupation — a machine operator specialist for a waste treatment plant in Abu Dhabi. The 24-year-old spends her days at the treatment plant, inspecting water pumps and taking samples to ensure it's clean. She turns hazardous waste found in sludge — material left over during the process of wastewater treatment and usually consists of solids mixed with water — into clean water. That water is then used for non-drinking purposes, like irrigation for farming. 'At first, people were shocked,' Raisa said when asked about people's reactions to her occupation. 'But I received a lot of encouragement from my parents. As an Emirati woman, I aspire to achieve what Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed said,' she said, recalling the quote by the UAE President in which he said, 'You are an important generation, we want to make you the leaders of the world,' referring to young Emiratis. 'These words encouraged me to take on the challenge of developing our country,' Raisa added. Raisa first went into medicine but decided that it was not for her. She later felt inspired by the words of Sheikh Zayed: 'The real prosperity of a country is its youth." Raisa said that those words prompted her to seek an occupation that would better the environment and our life here on earth. 'It was difficult in the beginning,' Raisa admits. She had no prior knowledge of how to operate equipment of any sort. But the company she works for, Veolia Near & Middle East, put her under an intensive study program so that she could be set on becoming an operator. From waste to clean water The transformation from sludge to usable water begins with what Raisa calls 'equalization,' where the sludge is first collected. From there, it's moved into tanks where special chemicals are added. These substances help tiny particles clump together, making it easier to separate solids from liquid. Once the heavier solids settle, the cleaner water moves through further treatment stages, passing pumps and filters that remove remaining impurities. The final product is clear, safe water that can be reused. 'I believe that my journey proves that it is not difficult for the children of the country, especially women. And thank God, the leadership of the United Arab Emirates supports us in all areas,' Raisa said. 'If the Emirati youth are interested in the environment and safety, there is room for them in the industry. With passion and hard work, the youth and women can achieve the goals of the United Arab Emirates and make it a more sustainable country," she added.

From script to structure: Diwani wins international spotlight
Participation in international art symposium Al Madhloum took part in an international art symposium hosted by Turkey's Gelişim University, where he presented his experience in designing 'Diwani'—the world's first building to integrate Arabic calligraphy with contemporary architecture. A tribute to Sharjah's visionary leadership He dedicated this latest honour to His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in recognition of His Highness's unwavering support for Sharjah's cultural and artistic initiatives and his leadership in preserving Arab and Islamic heritage. Prestigious exhibition with wide participation The exhibition, held from August 2 to 13 at the Taksim Mosque Culture and Arts Center, featured participation from numerous cultural dignitaries and representatives of major regional organisations, including the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Al-Badr Award (UAE), and the Islamic Center in Kuwait. Calligraphers from 13 countries took part, showcasing over 150 artworks and three large calligraphy panels. The event also included a dedicated pavilion for classical calligraphy masters. Diwani project highlighted as architectural innovation "Diwani - Sharjah" was featured as a standout model of architectural innovation. It has garnered three major awards: Loop Design Awards for Best Contemporary Architectural Design, Vision Architizer Award for Best Contemporary Building Photography, and Best Architectural Residence of the Year 2024, awarded by the Sharjah Department of Planning and Survey Recognitions across the Arab World In addition to international acclaim, the project was recognised by the Cairo International Forum for the Art of Arabic Calligraphy, organised by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, and the International Conference on Integration of Creativity, Technology, and Innovation, hosted by Mansoura University in Egypt. A new concept: The architecture of letters Commenting on the project's design philosophy, Al Madhloum said, 'The Diwani project embodies the concept of the architecture of letters. It is the first building in the world to be designed in this way, blending Arabic calligraphy with contemporary architecture. The building is made of letters, and the letters themselves become an integral part of the structure.'

AUB Press Hosts Dr. Lina Jammal at the 66th Beirut Arab International Book Fair: 'Indeed I Saw in a Dream: Dream Interpretation Books in Arab Literature'
As part of its participation in the 66th Beirut Arab International Book Fair, AUB Press hosted an enriching panel discussion titled Indeed I Saw in a Dream: Dream Interpretation Books in Arab Literature, which brought together Lebanese scholar Dr. Lina Jammal and Dr. Bilal Orfali to explore the rich tradition of dream interpretation in Arabic literary and scholarly heritage. The event was supported by the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Chair and organized in collaboration with the Center for Arts and Humanities at the American University of Beirut (AUB). Dr. Lina Jammal, who holds a PhD in Arabic Literature from the American University of Beirut (2021), specializes in the relationship between dreams and architectural space and place in classical Arabic texts. Her academic work stands at the intersection of scholarship and the literary eye. Jammal has previously served as a Research Assistant at New York University Abu Dhabi and is currently Associate Editor of Al Markaz: Journal of Arabic Studies, published by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre and Brill. She has also translated numerous academic works from English into Arabic, further contributing to accessibility and knowledge in the Arab world. In this conversation, Jammal and Orfali revisited the evolution of dream interpretation literature from early Islamic texts to the compilations of the Abbasid period and beyond. The discussion centered around foundational works such as Al-Qadir fi al-Ta?b?r, the most notable surviving Arabic text on dream interpretation, and explored how dreams have functioned as both narrative and epistemological tools throughout centuries of Arab-Islamic thought. Jammal's work approaches dreams not only as historical texts but as living visions, fusing the lens of the rigorous academic with the creative imagination of the writer. In her book, Indeed I Saw in a Dream, she guides her readers through the world of dreams hidden within classical manuscripts and the pages of literary tradition. Through this dialogue, the audience was invited to consider the enduring cultural, religious, and intellectual significance of dreams in shaping perceptions of the unseen, fate, and human consciousness. The session also addressed the challenges modern scholars face in editing, interpreting, and contextualizing these works, which remain deeply embedded in the literary and spiritual imagination of the Arab world. The discussion concluded with an engaging Q&A session, during which the audience directed insightful questions to Lina Jammal. She explained that numerous hadiths affirm the value of dreams, particularly those experienced by righteous individuals and explained their role in healing tangible illnesses.
