Honouring 47 students
The council hosted on Wednesday the festival's closing ceremony, which included honouring the participating students from Al-Aqd Al-Fareed Primary School and Al-Husn Secondary School. A total of 47 students were honoured in a festive atmosphere graced by the presence of parents who expressed their appreciation for the efforts made.
The festival lasted for ten days, filled with interactive activities and creative workshops specifically designed to develop Arabic language skills among students in early grades and kindergarten.
National identity
Activities varied, covering key topics in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, using modern methods that combined fun and education. They were supervised by co-teacher Anwar Ahmed Al Salami, who excelled in presenting distinctive educational narrative content, blending the aesthetics of the Arabic language with the spirit of national identity, within an artistic educational vision that strengthens young people's sense of belonging to their language and heritage.
The final day featured a post-test to measure the educational and pedagogical impact of the festival. The results were compared to the pre-test conducted on the first day, allowing for an accurate reading of the level of improvement and development in the language skills of the participating students.
Supporting the educational process
The festival was organised as part of the operational plan of the Parents Councils at SDAD. This initiative reflects the councils' commitment to enhancing their role in supporting the educational process and providing enriching learning environments that enhance the status of the Arabic language among the new generation, instilling in them a love of expression and a sense of belonging to their identity and language.
The festival resonated widely with parents, who expressed their appreciation for the high level of organisation and the quality of the educational activities. They praised their positive impact on their children and their motivation to use the Arabic language with confidence and creativity.
In a celebratory closing ceremony, writer Anwar Al Salami was honoured, along with the participating students, and awards and certificates of appreciation were distributed. This reflects the council's commitment to enhancing learning motivation, fostering a culture of excellence, and sustaining purposeful educational programs that celebrate the language and bring it to life in the hearts of generations.

In addition, the Sharjah Ruler also presented Arabic and English versions of Sheikh Sultan's book, Papal Bull: Pope Urban VIII Pope of the Catholic Church Dated August 14, 1624. The gifting ceremony began with Sheikh Sultan receiving a special welcome by the university's musical group, which performed classical pieces in Arabic, expressing their deep appreciation for the Sharjah Ruler's contributions particularly through the Arab Cultural Institute in Milan and Sheikh Sultan's ongoing efforts in the field of Arabic language and its study. They also conveyed the profound respect and admiration that Sheikh Sultan commands within Italian academic and cultural circles. In a written address delivered on behalf of Bishop Paolo Martinelli, the Apostolic Vicar of Southern Arabia, he expressed his gratitude for the Ruler of Sharjah's visit to the Sacred Heart University and the generous gift of a valuable historical manuscript dating back to Pope Urban VIII. He affirmed that this cultural initiative reflects the importance of fostering cooperation between nations and institutions through culture and knowledge, thereby strengthening the longstanding historical ties between the Arabian Gulf and Europe. Bishop Martinelli praised the constructive collaboration that embodies a spirit of openness and dialogue, which extends its influence across the university in various forms. On the sidelines of the visit, Sheikh Sultan toured the accompanying historical manuscripts exhibition, which features collections in various languages, along with artefacts owned by the Sacred Heart University. During the visit, His Highness also viewed the original Olympic torch, which is hosted at the university. The Ruler of Sharjah was briefed on students' participation in the Winter Olympic Games, where they will carry the torch during the opening ceremony of the games to be hosted in Milan next year. ALECGS participates in the 14th Board of Trustees meeting in Oman
Representatives of ABEGS member states were present, chaired by His Excellency Sulaiman bin Hamoud Al Harrasi, Advisor to the Minister of Education in the Sultanate of Oman and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the current session, and in the presence of Her Excellency Madiha bint Ahmed Al Shaibani, Minister of Education in the Sultanate of Oman. Promoting the Arabic language The participation, which concluded on Wednesday, represented an important milestone for reviewing ALECGS efforts and pioneering programmes in developing the teaching and learning of Arabic. His Excellency Dr. Issa Saleh Al Hammadi, Director of ALECGS, expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to the Ministry of Education in the Sultanate of Oman for its generous hosting and excellent organisation of the meeting and its accompanying program. Al Hammadi noted the support and cooperation provided, which reflects the spirit of joint Gulf action and embodies the depth of educational relations between the GCC states. Accredited programmes and international conferences During the meeting, ALECGS reviewed the most notable achievements of the previous session, 2023/2024. It implemented ten accredited programmes, including the publication of six scientific studies and nine publications for specialised conferences. It also organised two conferences and participated in twelve international conferences and eight international book fairs in several Arab capitals and cities. ALECGS also organised nine seminars and participated in eight others, in addition to a series of community events and specialised training courses, most notably ten training courses on the Reference Framework for Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers. New programmes ALECGS also unveiled its new programmes for the current session, which began in January 2025. These include a range of qualitative studies, such as a study on developing reading and writing skills in early childhood in light of digital children's literature, a study on developing Arabic language teaching for upper grades through artificial intelligence applications, and the preparation of a reference framework for curriculum development based on digital citizenship requirements. The Center also held linguistic competitions, contests, conferences, and specialised educational meetings that serve this purpose. At the conclusion of the meeting, the board commended the Sultanate of Oman's efforts in making the meeting a success, expressing its appreciation for the warm welcome, generous hospitality, and authentic coordination. The board also thanked Her Excellency Madiha bint Ahmed Al Shaibani, Minister of Education in the Sultanate of Oman. Field visits The accompanying programme included field visits to several educational and cultural institutions, most notably the Specialised Institute for Vocational Training for Teachers, which briefed the delegation on its experiences in developing educational competencies. The delegation also visited the Royal Opera House and some of the prominent historical landmarks in the capital, Muscat, reflecting the integrated educational and cultural dimensions of this participation. The meeting was attended by representatives of the member states of the Board of Trustees, who expressed their continued support for ALECGS progress and its purposeful programmes, emphasising the importance of this cooperation in building a shared linguistic and educational future for the Gulf states.

His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, presented a rare original historical manuscript to the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, Italy, in the presence, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA). The manuscript dates back to August 14 , 1624, and includes a papal decree written by Pope Urban VIII and sealed in the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. Additionally, His Highness gifted his book 'Papal Bull' in both Arabic and English at the university's premises. In his speech, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Rector and members of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan for their warm welcome. His Highness spoke about the manuscript he gifted to the university, which dates back to August 14 , 1624, highlighting that it is a papal decree written by Pope Urban VIII and sealed in the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore. The purpose of the decree was to raise financial assistance for the Portuguese fleet. His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah discussed the conflict between the Portuguese and the English in Hormuz, stating, 'In 1622, the Portuguese were expelled from Hormuz at the entrance to the Arabian Gulf from the Persian coast, where they had occupied it for one hundred and fifteen years, by English and Persian forces. The mission of the Portuguese leaders, along with the priests, was evangelization, whether in Hormuz, Persia, or India.' His Highness added, 'After the English expelled the Portuguese from Hormuz in Persia, King Philip of Portugal sought to retake Hormuz. However, the Portuguese government lacked the financial resources to send a military campaign for its recovery. King Philip requested financial support from the clergy, which led Pope Urban VIII to issue a papal decree to collect the necessary funds from the churches.' His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah explained that he translated and studied this decree, tracking the funds collected through the churches, which amounted to two hundred thousand cruzados, a Portuguese gold currency at the time. The goal was to build a fleet and send it to India to retake Hormuz. His Highness noted that the fleet required a special type of large ship capable of crossing oceans, which would take considerable time, along with a sailing journey from Portugal to India that would last several months. His Highness indicated that King Philip ordered the funds to be sent to India to build a local fleet there, due to the short distance between India and Hormuz. He explained that the details of this fleet and its armament are mentioned in the book 'Papal Bull ' that he authored, as well as the account of its journey to the battle site in Hormuz against the English and Dutch forces, culminating in the defeat of the Portuguese fleet. His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah received a commemorative gift from the Rector of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, which was an original 3D map of the city of Milan dating back to 1657.
