Piyush Goyal exhorts nation's youth to be architects of Viksit Bharat

Hans India4 days ago
New Delhi: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, on Friday exhorted the country's youth to actively contribute to building a Viksit Bharat by 2047, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Panch Pran' (five pledges) for 'Amrit Kaal'.
Inaugurating India's International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN) Conference 2025 here, the minister called upon the youth to commit themselves to making India a developed country by 2047.
Recalling the Prime Minister's address on August 15, 2022, he said the 25-year period of Amrit Kaal leading up to the centenary of India's independence in 2047 is a defining moment for the nation.
He elaborated that the first of the five pledges is the resolve to make India a developed nation. Urging the youth to visualise themselves over the next few decades, he said they will be the primary drivers of this transformation.
'This commitment can only be realised if we also embrace the remaining four pledges with equal seriousness,' he told the gathering.
The second pledge, Goyal noted, is to shed the colonial mindset. Referring to India's rich history as a global economic powerhouse, he said centuries of foreign subjugation had eroded confidence and imposed limitations. 'We must not be bound by the constraints of the past but instead aspire to meet global benchmarks and set ambitious goals,' he stated.
The third pledge is about taking pride in India's heritage. Goyal said that India's history, culture, traditions and value systems hold deep significance as we move towards becoming a developed nation.
'Vikas bhi, virasat bhi – we must pursue development while preserving our heritage. Our diversity is our strength, and we must amalgamate our traditions into a collective journey towards progress,' he added.
Speaking about the fourth pledge, the minister said that unity and integrity of the nation must be paramount. Commending IIMUN for its efforts to engage youth from across India and abroad, Goyal remarked that this unity is India's greatest strength and must be nurtured at every level. He underscored that this collective spirit is fundamental to the country's journey towards becoming a developed nation.
The fifth pledge, he said, is the collective resolve of 1.4 billion Indians to contribute to nation-building. Goyal emphasised that a developed India can only emerge when all citizens work together like a family, with shared responsibility and compassion. 'We must be concerned for the marginalised, care for the underprivileged, and ensure that our progress is inclusive and sustainable,' he said.
The minister encouraged the youth to accept nation-building as a duty and a privilege, and to perform every task with commitment and dedication. He urged them to inculcate care and concern for others and give their best to whatever job they undertake.
Goyal also urged the youth to actively consider participating in public life. Recalling the Prime Minister's address on Independence Day 2024, he noted that the Prime Minister had called upon one lakh young men and women to enter politics and public service to become agents of change. 'There is a need for capable and committed individuals to contribute to policymaking with compassion, dedication, and a spirit of service,' he said.
Goyal urged the youth to take charge of India's future, saying, 'Be the changemakers, the movers and shakers of tomorrow's India. With collective resolve, we can overcome every challenge and lead our nation to greater heights.'

KDA for Kannada information boards at tourist places, monuments

Chairman of Kannada Development Authority (KDA), Purushottama Bilimale, on Tuesday, said that they are asking district administrations in the State to set up display boards with basic information in Kannada at tourist places and monuments. Addressing the press in Udupi, Mr. Bilimale said that there were many tourist attractions in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts that lacked Kannada information boards highlighting the significance of those places. Many such places had boards only in English, he added. 'Let there be boards in Kannada, English and Hindi,' he said. The KDA addressed the matter in a meeting with Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi on December 17, 2024. The Union Minister was apprised of the need to display boards in regional languages, Mr. Bilimale said. Mr. Bilimale said that during his meeting with the district administration in Udupi on Tuesday, he drew the attention of both the tourism department and the Deputy Commissioner to the display of Kannada boards. The Deputy Commissioner was asked to hold meetings with pro-Kannada organisations at least once in two or three months, he said. Kannada Bhavan in Udupi Mr. Bilimale said that Udupi city is likely to get a Kannada Bhavan. It required 11 cents of land to build the bhavan. The proposal to construct the building has been pending for three years. Once the Udupi Urban Development Authority gives its approval, the proposal is likely to be a reality. Constructing the building might cost ₹5 crore, he said. He said that KDA has apprised the Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, of the need to post Kannada-speaking staff in bank branches throughout the State. The KDA chairman said that government schools in the State have been instructed to register their land in their names with the RTCs to prevent encroachments. In Udupi district, eight such schools will have to get their RTCs.

‘Great': Elon Musk Backs Donald Trump Move To Reshape H-1B Visa System

Last Updated: The Donald Trump administration proposed an overhaul of the H-1B visa program, aiming to prioritize higher-paid, highly-skilled workers. The Donald Trump administration proposed a major overhaul of the H-1B visa program, aiming to replace the current random lottery system with a 'weighted selection process" that could prioritize higher-paid and highly-skilled foreign workers. The proposal, filed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), would apply to the capped category of H-1B visas- which is currently limited to 85,000 new visas annually, including 20,000 set aside for applicants with advanced degrees from US institutions. The DHS proposal has been submitted to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs for review and is expected to favour candidates based on wage levels, rather than selecting recipients at random. Elon Musk Backs New H-1B Visa Proposal Reacting to the proposal, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk posted a one-word response on X (formerly Twitter), 'Great." The tech boss has previously described the H-1B system as 'broken" and pledged to 'go to war on this issue." He earlier said, 'I've been very clear that the program is broken and needs major reform." The proposed changes align with Elon Musk's longstanding calls for a merit-based immigration system that prioritizes skill and innovation. The overhaul could have a major impact on Indian nationals, who are by far the largest group of H-1B beneficiaries as 77% of approved H-1B petitions in the latest round went to Indian citizens. In 2023, Indians made up over 70% of the approved visas. Under the current system, all applicants are treated equally in a random lottery conducted by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS- disregarding applicants' skill levels and salary offers. The DHS has yet to disclose how exactly the proposed system would be weighted or when the changes would take effect if approved. How Non-Resident Indians Can Use UPI With Foreign Mobile Numbers

UPI Payments For Foreigners: The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has provided a platform for Indians to send and receive money online quickly and easily. The benefits can also be availed by the Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and foreign nationals, as they can make transactions in India using their foreign mobile numbers. There's no need for an Indian SIM card. UPI is an instant payment system, developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), that allows users to make payments in seconds. In 2023, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) allowed access to UPI to foreign nationals and NRIs with NRE (Non-Resident External) or NRO (Non-Resident Ordinary) accounts. RBI had also updated its Master Directions on Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs). On June 25, 2025, IDFC First Bank announced in a press release that NRI customers can make UPI payments using their international mobile numbers, without incurring any charges. "This facility is available to all IDFC FIRST Bank NRI customers from 12 countries: Australia, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, the UAE, the UK, and the USA - for INR-denominated transactions within India," the bank said. The bank noted that NRIs can use the UPI facility even while being abroad, if the payments are for transactions within India. Such transactions do not attract any foreign exchange charges. The service is also supported by ICICI Bank, offering services for NRIs in 10 countries, including the US, UK, Canada and Australia. Managing finances without an Indian SIM card is cost-effective as the transactions are made in INR, avoiding foreign exchange fees. The process is also secure as the system has strong security features, including two-factor authentication and UPI PINs. How to Link Your International Mobile Number to UPI?
