Egyptian FM Praises Egyptian Community in Senegal for Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Badr Abdel Aaty, lauded the Egyptian community in Senegal on Friday for their vital role in deepening ties between the two nations and for their active contributions to Senegalese society across various sectors.
Speaking during a meeting with members of the Egyptian diaspora in Dakar as part of his official visit to the West African nation, Abdel Aaty commended the community's efforts in fostering bilateral cooperation and enhancing Egypt's presence in the region.
The minister highlighted Egypt's ongoing commitment to modernizing its consular services and embracing digital transformation. He revealed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration is currently upgrading the technological infrastructure in embassies and consulates, aiming to deliver more efficient, user-friendly services through advanced online platforms.
As part of these efforts, Abdel Aaty announced the launch of a new mechanism to accelerate the issuance of computerized birth certificates and highlighted a cooperation protocol recently signed with the National Postal Authority. The agreement aims to decentralize document authentication services by offering them through local post offices, especially in underserved and remote areas, to reduce congestion and simplify procedures.
The minister also presented several initiatives the Egyptian government has introduced to support its expatriate population. These include the "Import Your Car" initiative, the military service settlement program, and the 'Your Home in Egypt' project in cooperation with the Ministry of Housing, which allocates ready-to-move-in residential units to Egyptians living abroad.
Additionally, he underscored the ongoing collaboration with the Central Bank of Egypt to help expats open domestic bank accounts, thereby broadening their access to investment and financial services within their homeland.
Abdel Aaty reiterated the ministry's dedication to maintaining open communication with Egyptian communities around the world. He confirmed that preparations are underway for the sixth edition of the Egyptians Abroad Conference, scheduled for August 3–4, 2025. The event will serve as a key platform for dialogue between diaspora members and senior Egyptian officials.
'This conference is essential in shaping policies that reflect the aspirations of Egyptians living overseas,' he said, emphasizing the importance of incorporating their perspectives into national development strategies.
During the meeting, the minister welcomed questions and suggestions from community members, assuring them that the ministry is attentive to the challenges they face and is working closely with relevant authorities to address them.

Massive Data Breach at US Dating App "Tea"
Taarek Refaat U.S.-based dating app Tea has confirmed a significant data breach that resulted in the unauthorized exposure of more than 72,000 private images, including 13,000 selfies accompanied by government-issued IDs. The app, which has gained recent notoriety for allowing women to anonymously review men they've dated or matched with on dating platforms, disclosed the breach late Saturday. The compromised images reportedly include user-submitted content from Tea's account verification process. According to NBC News, the leaked materials were published Friday on controversial online forum 4Chan, widely known for hosting misinformation campaigns and extremist content. Screenshots circulating on Reddit and other social platforms showed ID cards paired with selfies, an alarming breach of user trust and safety. "This breach is deeply concerning," said a spokesperson for Tea. "Roughly 72,000 images were accessed without authorization, including approximately 13,000 selfie-ID pairings submitted as part of our verification process." The company noted that the exposed database was over two years old and had originally been retained to comply with cyberbullying and law enforcement regulations. The leaked content has sparked intense debate over digital privacy, particularly for women using dating apps. Critics argue that Tea's system, which encourages anonymous reviews of male users, poses inherent risks, especially when combined with identifiable personal data. The New York Times highlighted that while supporters believe Tea empowers women to avoid deceptive or dangerous partners, critics warn of potential defamation and privacy violations, especially when names and images are involved. Tea founder Shawn Cook responded on the company's website, stating that the app was inspired by his mother's traumatic experiences with online dating, including catfishing and unknowingly dating men with criminal backgrounds. 'Tea was created to protect women by giving them tools to verify men's identities, criminal records, and even run reverse image searches,' Cook said. 'This breach is a painful setback to that mission.' The app claims it donates 10% of its profits to the National Domestic Violence Hotline and has positioned itself as a safer alternative to mainstream dating platforms. Egypt's PM orders road maintenance review, tougher penalties to curb accidents
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has ordered a comprehensive review of all road maintenance nationwide and called for stiffer penalties for traffic violations in an effort to curb road accidents, particularly on the Regional Ring Road. Madbouly chaired a meeting on Sunday in the city of New Alamein to follow up on measures to address the accidents, his office said in a statement. The prime minister acknowledged that while the state has made significant progress in expanding and improving its road network, the focus must now shift to reducing accidents. 'There is a technical aspect that we, as a government, will deal with, but there is another aspect related to the behaviour and violations committed by some drivers,' Madbouly said. He stressed that all practices by drivers must be governed and that while there are problems on some roads, they will be addressed through quality operation and maintenance. Madbouly directed the Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, to conduct a comprehensive review of all road maintenance, regardless of which authority has jurisdiction over them. At the same time, Madbouly said the government would begin to tighten penalties for driving violations and work on an awareness axis. 'There will be deterrent penalties for driving violations,' he said, adding that the awareness campaign would be approached from a religious perspective through the Ministry of Awqaf, and a general awareness perspective through several other ministries and relevant bodies. During the meeting, El-Wazir explained that the 400-km Regional Ring Road is a vital link between all major road arteries in the country and plays a crucial role in connecting various sea and dry ports. He outlined a two-phase plan to develop and upgrade the entire road. El-Wazir also reviewed measures already taken to address accidents on the ring road, noting that, following a presidential directive, sections of the road undergoing maintenance have been closed to protect citizens' lives. He said a committee of specialists had been formed to implement a plan for traffic flow on alternative routes, which will be equipped with various warning signs. The committee also recommended replacing small plastic barriers in traffic diversions with fixed concrete barriers, closing all openings in central and side barriers to reduce wrong-way driving, increasing warning signs and night lighting in development sections, and reducing the length of diversions. The committee also stressed the need for complete traffic control in diversions, monitored by cameras and radars, and the activation of security inspection areas to enforce speed limits and reduce violations, especially by heavy transport vehicles.
