The FDA Is Recalling Tomatoes in 14 States Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination
Two tomato recalls were issued due to potential Salmonella contamination: Ray & Mascari (sold in 11 Midwest and Northeast states) and Williams Farms Repack (distributed in the Southeast).
No illnesses have been reported, but affected tomatoes include specific lot codes and packaging types; consumers are urged to discard them immediately.

On May 3, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published a recall notice for Ray & Mascari tomatoes, specifically its 4-Count Vine Ripe Tomatoes packaged in clamshell containers, as they may be contaminated with Salmonella.'Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,' the notice explained. 'Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.'

According to the recall notice, the packaging includes the UPC number 7 96553 20062 1, and a master case label with Lot number RM250424 15250B or Lot number RM250427 15250B. The tomatoes were sold by Gordon Food Service Stores in 11 states: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. Any consumers who have purchased the 4 Count Vine Ripe Tomatoes are encouraged to discard them immediately.
As for the other tomato recall, on May 2, the FDA released a separate recall notice for tomatoes by Williams Farms Repack LLC, also due to a potential Salmonella contamination. This recall includes tomatoes in a variety of packaging, but all include the lot code R4467 (with some also marked R4470). This recall includes the following:
25-pound cartons of 5×6 tomatoes and 6×6 tomatoes
25-pound combo cartons
2‑layer cartons of 4×4 and 4×5 tomatoes
2‑layer cartons of 60-count tomatoes
18-pound loose packs of 60-count tomatoes and extra‑large tomatoes
3-count trays of tomatoes
These tomatoes were distributed between April 23 and April 28, 2025, to wholesalers and distributors in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Fungal concerns spark nationwide recall of Zicam, Orajel products
(WJW) – Swabs under two well-known brand names have been recalled over potential fungi-related microbial contamination. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Church & Dwight Co., Inc. is voluntarily recalling some Zicam and Orajel products because fungi could be present in the items' cotton swab components. The recalled products include all lots within expiry of Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs, Zicam Nasal AllClear Swabs, and Orajel Baby Teething Swabs to the consumer level. Consumers are advised to 'immediately' stop using the recalled products. Bipolar Depression: Choosing the Right Antipsychotic
Major depressive episodes are difficult to treat in patients with bipolar disorder I (BD-I) using traditional antidepressants. However, atypical antipsychotics can be effective in BD-I, and five FDA-approved monotherapies are discussed by Dr Joseph Goldberg, of Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, NY. Dr Goldberg reports that traditional antidepressants are not overly effective in the treatment of depression in BD-I, and their use can risk destabilizing mood or exacerbating mixed features. In contrast, atypical antipsychotics have demonstrated efficacy as monotherapy for BD-I. Dr Goldberg reviews the five FDA-approved atypical antipsychotics for patients with BD-I. He then discusses the specific indications for each therapy and notes their effectiveness in treating particular comorbid features of BD-I. For example, he cites quetiapine as effective in treating anxiety, and cariprazine as beneficial for impulse control. He notes that antipsychotics, as a class, are associated with increased risk for metabolic changes, including abnormal movement disorders. However, individual agents differ in tolerability and side-effect profiles. In choosing the most appropriate agent for a given patient, Dr Goldberg advises clinicians to target the symptoms needing control, understand the therapeutic goals important to the patient, and identify the agent that has the greatest potential to meet those endpoints with the lowest risk for side effects.
