Major character 'set for return after brutal Coronation Street death'
Beth Sutherland (Lisa George) is set to 'return' to Coronation Street – after a fashion – as the soap airs the violent death of one of its residents.
Beth left Weatherfield last year after being blackmailed by local police officer Kit Green (Jacob Roberts).
Annoyed at being cut out of her own counterfeit clothes selling deal, Beth had demanded he let her back in, or else she'd share the details of all his dodgy behaviour to his police bosses.
Kit responded by getting her son Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) drunk, to the point where he admitted he'd helped cover up a hit-and-run committed by his ex, Faye Windass (Ellie Leach).
He then used this information to force Beth off the cobbles – telling her he'd end her career if she didn't go for good.
But, with Craig's time in Weatherfield (not to mention this mortal coil) seemingly numbered, Beth will return long enough to hear about her son's death… if only over the phone.
As the week begins, Craig excitedly arrives for work, ready to shadow Kit as part of his CID placement.
However, his glee soon diminishes when Kit ignores him all day, leaving him despondent and dejected.
When he complains about the situation to DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), she tells him that he needs to prove Kit wrong.
As he's called to investigate a local disturbance, Craig senses his chance to prove himself.
However, fate has other plans, and Craig finds himself on the receiving end of a brutal beating.
As an ambulance arrives on the scene, paramedic Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) leaps into action, providing vital first aid for Craig.
With Craig fighting for his life, Lisa arrives, and is left shocked at the severity of his injuries. As Asha loads him into the back of an ambulance, Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) explains how she came to find him.
Later, in intensive care, Lisa learns that Craig has swelling on the brain. As he regains consciousness, he tells Asha he knows what happened to him.
But, as he's questioned by Jess Heywood (Donnaleigh Bailey), Craig's health takes a sudden and dramatic turn for the worst.
Soon afterwards, Lisa takes a call from Jess at the hospital. Meanwhile, back on the Street, Craig's friends attempt to comprehend the horrors of the day.
And, as shockwaves resound in the wake of a tragedy, Kirk Sutherland (Andy Whyment) calls Beth to tell her what's happened to Craig.
Star Lisa announced news of her departure from Weatherfield last year, telling Metro.co.uk: 'I've been on Corrie a long time but you know what? It's flown. It's really difficult to comprehend how many years I've been here, because it hasn't computed at all.
'You get so engrossed in this world and it is timeless. It feels like you've only been here a year or two years or something. When you think about people doing 25 years or over 50 years you can easily see how that can happen.'
The actress left the soap to pursue other roles, revealing how she feared her rare eye condition NAION (non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy) – might one day leave her blind.
'What happens if I do go blind? I still want to explore as an actress and do lots of other things,' said the actress, who is partially blind in one eye.
She continued: 'It was the impetus for me to see what else is out there, as I don't want to stop any of those opportunities coming to me.'
Meanwhile, in scenes which aired August 2024, both Craig and Kirk attempted to stop Beth from leaving. More Trending
With Craig's pleas that she stick around falling on deaf ears, Kirk rushed to her side in a last-ditch attempt to beg that she stay.
Unfortunately, neither man in her life was successful in changing her mind, and Beth departed for Norfolk, seemingly for good.

Tragically, it would be the last time she'd see her son alive.

Fears gunman is targeting cats in village after pet shot with air rifle
A 'close-knit' village has been rocked after a family's adored pet cat was shot by an air rifle. Vicki Waskett's beloved cat Bella was gunned down 'in broad daylight' on May 22 and needed emergency surgery to stay alive. Residents of the sleepy village of Wendlebury, outside Bicester, 'don't feel safe' as the mystery shooter remains on the loose. Bella, 4, a timid half-Burmese half-tabby cat who doesn't roam far, returned home with an 'odd puncture wound' on her leg. When blood began pouring out of her limb, Vicki, 49, rushed her to the vet, where they discovered a 1cm long bullet lodged in her. The mum-of-two told Metro: 'I was horrified, absolutely horrified. I cried all the way home. 'They were aiming for a vital organ. I couldn't think of anybody who would want to do that. It's a village where people generally feel quite safe. 'Somebody out there close by, potentially one of our neighbours, has got evil intent.' The vets confirmed she had been shot with an air rifle or BB gun, and once the pellet had been removed, it appeared to come from a small rifle. Bella was left 'depressed and crying' for days before a metal rod and pins could be placed in her leg in surgery. Email: The feline is slowly on the mend, but that has not stopped the incident two weeks ago from becoming the talk of the town. Despite posting on a local Facebook page and reporting to Thames Valley Police, Vicki is still in the dark about who shot her cat. Vicki, who owns two other cats, added: 'I actually wanted to move house after I found out. 'A couple of hours later, I thought, 'I just want to move, I don't want to live here any more.' 'I don't think I will ever feel safe, because when the cats go out, I will always be a bit more nervous. 'I hope whoever did this feels a bit ashamed at least. I really hope they feel ashamed of themselves and nothing else.' Her 20-year-old son William has also been out knocking on doors in Wendlebury in hopes of finding answers. Vicki believes Bella must have been shot in Wendlebury because she does not travel long distances, but is unsure whether the shooters live in the town or were just passing through. Cat charity Cat Protection has been campaigning for the introductory licensing of air guns to stop 'cruel air gun attacks' on cats. They told Metro there were 53 media reports of cats being shot with air guns in 2024 and already 8 so far this year. Their Advocacy & Campaigns Manager, Stefan Blakiston Moore, added: 'These numbers are only the tip of the iceberg. It is something that comes up a lot more than we expect. 'It is horrific. Sadly, in many situations, air gun attacks can be fatal. 'From media reports alone, around 30% of those that were reported across the UK were fatal. 'Cats Protection has been calling for licensing of air guns. More Trending 'Essentially, in England and Wales, anyone over the age of, age of 18 can go out and buy one of these weapons unchecked. 'Sadly, that does mean these weapons are sometimes in the hands of the wrong people who are wishing to do harm to people's pets.' Thames Valley Police told Metro: 'The force was called on 25 May to report that a vet had said a cat in their care may have been shot with an air rifle or bb gun in the village of Wendlebury. 'If anyone saw anyone with an air rifle or BB gun in the village on that morning, please contact the force by calling 101 or our website, quoting investigation number INC-20250525-1857.' Rock legend, 78, wheeled off stage in coffin during bizarre exit
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Gig-goers at London's Alexandra Palace were left baffled as a rock icon's show wrapped up with a huge coffin being wheeled out onto the stage. A lone arm waved from the black box, prompting laughter from the onlookers as they realised star of the show and music legend, Iggy Pop, was inside. As the huge coffin faced the front, the shirtless rocker opened the lid and smiled at the crowd shouting 'bye' and basking in the applause. Posting to his social media the 78-year-old star quipped: 'London was a hoot! How you exit is equally important to how you enter.' This marked the penultimate show in a handful of UK dates for the Grammy winner's Lust For Life tour, before he heads to Glasgow on June 3. Iggy kicked off the gig with TV Eye, a song he rose to fame with as a member of The Stooges. He blasted through over 20 hits before wrapping the show – before his coffin exit – with Funtime. The legend had previously performed at Manchester's O2 Victoria Warehouse before heading to London. He's off to In The Meadows festival in Dublin, Ireland, next then to a string of gigs in mainland Europe over the summer. The American rocker will head back to the States for two July gigs before jetting back over to Denmark, Sweden, Brazil, and Argentina. Fans were living for his coffin antics in London, with ktorreg writing on X: 'Only iggy … 😉 … may he long reign … 🔊🎶🎸.' 'Punk's not dead 🤘' added post_punk while Ingeastrid said: 'Always that smile…mischievous charmer.' Off-stage, life is much less rock and roll for Iggy who revealed at Cannes Film Festival he 'likes baths, sometimes with a rubber duck and bubbles'. More Trending He continued: 'Sometimes I get really upset if it's getting late in the day and I think to myself that I haven't done anything I really like. And music is what gives me pleasure you know, well music and the sea.' 'That's my default setting, so I'm always putting my pleasure first – I can get really desperate to seek pleasure – and when that happens usually it means someone takes me to the beach.' According to the rocker, about 95% of life is about being 'chill' rather than raising hell, despite what his on-stage persona might suggest. Got a story?
