The Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame is getting a new member.
The 49ers on Monday announced tight end Brent Jones will be inducted into the team's Hall of Fame and become the 33rd player enshrined there. He's the first tight end to join the exclusive club. It's unclear when the team will honor Jones. They typically do so on a home game day.
'Receiving the call from Jed (York) was incredibly emotional for me, something that I will remember forever,' said Jones in a statement released by the team. 'It is truly the greatest honor of my life to be alongside the legends that comprise the San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame, one of the greatest franchises in all of professional sports. I want to sincerely thank my coaches and the teammates who poured into me and allowed me to be successful on and off the field.'
Jones was a fifth-round pick of the Steelers in 1986, but he didn't debut in the NFL until the following season with the 49ers. He wound up spending his entire 11-year career with San Francisco and started 125 of the 143 games he played as a pro.
From 1989-95, Jones had at least 500 receiving yards in every season. He finished his career with 417 catches, 5,195 receiving yards and 33 touchdowns. Jones earned four Pro Bowl trips and two Second-Team All-Pro nods in his career. He added another 60 catches, 740 yards and five touchdowns in 21 playoff games, and was part of three Super Bowl winners.

His two best seasons—2021 (40 catches, 513 yards, eight touchdowns) and 2022 (60 catches, 788 yards, six touchdowns)—were with a healthy, pre-Achilles injury Rodgers throwing him the ball. In fact, the one season Rodgers was injured and Lazard was catching passes from someone else, he had the worst season of his career (23 receptions, 311 yards, one TD). "Lazard has a well-earned reputation of being two different players. With Rodgers, good. Without Rodgers, not," Florio continued. "... He has a much better chance of [continuing his career] if he can take advantage of his opportunity with the Jets to prove that he can thrive without Rodgers as his quarterback." Advertisement Bonitto led the Broncos with 13.5 of the team's 63 sacks, on his way to a second-team All-Pro season and Pro Bowl appearance in 2024. That was a major jump in production from 1.5 sacks in his rookie season in 2022 and eight sacks in 2023. It may surprise you to hear that Bonitto was third in the NFL in sacks, just behind the highly-paid Miles Garrett (14) and Trey Hendrickson (17.5). Hendrickson is holding out for an extension right now, and according to Tom Blair of Bonitto should be too. "Dividing Bonitto's APY [$1.45 million] by his team-leading 13.5 sacks in 2024 works out to $107,407 per sack in APY. That might seem like a decent amount, until you put it next to Trey Hendrickson's APY-per-sack mark of $1.2 million," Blair wrote. Throw in the fact that Blair believes Hendrickson is currently underpaid, which means Bonitto is making almost 10 times less than he could be. It might be hard to convince the Broncos to put an extension together with such a cheap deal. However, Bonitto's contract ends after the 2025-2026 season, which means the Broncos will have to pay up anyway if they want to keep the star defender going forward.
