James Ryan starts final Lions Test as Tadhg Furlong set for landmark cap
McCarthy missed last week's second Test in Melbourne, which allowed Ryan come into the matchday squad at the MCG, and the Leinster secind row has been rewarded for an impressive cameo with a starting role at Accor Stadium alongside captain Maro Itoje at lock.
He's one of two changes to last week's winning team, with Scotland's Blair Kinghorn coming in for James Lowe on the left wing. The Lions are yet to confirm whether or not Lowe's absence is injury related.
Head coach Andy Farrell has gone for a 6:2 split on the bench, but that still hasn't opened the door for Josh van der Flier to get a Test cap, with Ben Earl and Jac Morgan preferred as loose forward options on the replacements.
In total there are nine Irish players in the starting side, with Rónan Kelleher the only Irish player on the bench.
It will be a landmark day for Tadhg Furlong (above) as he starts his ninth consecutive Lions Test at tighthead, a number which has only ever been bettered by four players in history: Willie John McBride, Graham Price, Tony O'Reilly and Rhys Williams. Furlong is among an all-Leinster front row, packing down with Dan Sheehan and Andrew Porter.
Ryan replaces Ollie Chessum in the second row for his first Lions start, while Tadhg Beirne, Jack Conan and Tom Curry continue in the back row for the third game in a row.
Jamison Gibson-Park and Finn Russell are also retained in the half-backs, while Bundee Akki and Huw Jones go again in the centre, with Garry Ringrose ruled out due to concussion.
Last week's match-winner Hugo Keenan starts at full-back, with Freeman and Kinghorn on the right and left wing respectively.
British and Irish Lions: Hugo Keenan; Tommy Freeman, Huw Jones, Bundee Aki, Blair Kinghorn; Finn Russell, Jamison Gibson-Park; Andrew Porter, Dan Sheehan, Tadhg Furlong; Maro Itoje, James Ryan; Tadhg Beirne, Tom Curry, Jack Conan.

Paul McGrath shares rare family pic to mark granddaughter's birthday as fans all make the same observation
An Irish celeb was among those bowled over by the fabulous photo THREE GENERATIONS Paul McGrath shares rare family pic to mark granddaughter's birthday as fans all make the same observation PAUL McGrath shared a sweet photo from his granddaughter's birthday - with fans noticing the striking similarity between him and his son Chris. The Irish footy legend has aged incredibly well given he's only a few months short of turning 66 and hitting the pensionable mark. Advertisement 2 McGrath in his pomp while starring at the 1994 World Cup in the US 2 The 65-year-old still looked fit as a fiddle while celebrating in Rosslare's Kelly's Resort Hotel Credit: @paulnumber5 The former Aston Villa and Manchester United defensive rock captioned it: "Celebrating my granddaughter Talia's 15th birthday." A common theme among the replies from his Instagram followers was how his appearance belies his advanced age. In slightly theatrical fashion, Keith asked: "Is that you on the left or right Paul?!" Another social media user extended that sentiment to include Talia. They gushed: "The resemblance is remarkable among the three of you, happy birthday young lady!" Advertisement Finally Maia Dunphy noted: "What a gorgeous photo!! Your son is the image of you!!" The two clubs the centre-back hero is most associated with are actually currently mired in one of the summer's most layered transfer sagas. Villa's star striker Ollie Watkins is ready to step into the void if Man Utd are unable to lure Benjamin Sesko to the club. Newcastle have launched a £78m bid to try to beat United to the Slovenia international, with RB Leipzig now keen to do business with the Toon. Advertisement And there is growing scepticism in Germany that PSR-stricken Man Utd will come in with an offer to compete with Eddie Howe's side, who have the advantage of being able to attract a nine-figure fee for Alexander Isak. SunSport understands that following interest from Arsenal in January, Watkins feels the time is right to leave Villa Park. Fans slam 'utter woke nonsense' as Tottenham star announces bizarre kit number change And his wishes may overlap with Aston Villa's, who also face a battle to keep their summer spending within PSR limits. The Villans were fined by Uefa earlier this summer for breaching the European body's financial rules. Advertisement Unai Emery had been keen to sell the likes of Jacob Ramsey and Leon Bailey to meet the Premier League's requirements, but have yet to receive the interest they had hoped for. As a result, a bid of between £40m and £50m could be enough to prize Watkins from Villa. BONUS OF THE BUY This would also have the bonus of giving United funds to spare to solve their other major problem position - holding midfield. But a move for Watkins is not inevitable if Man Utd are unable to attract Sesko. Advertisement SunSport understands that Ruben Amorim is looking at two strikers playing in his home country of Portugal. Samu Aghehowa scored 27 goals for Porto last season after agreeing a deal with Chelsea which fell through over an ankle injury and image rights. And Benfica's Vangelis Pavlidis, who scored 30 goals last term, made a name for himself in England by scoring twice at Wembley as Greece nabbed a shock 2-1 win against the Three Lions. Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano claims that Juventus have offered Dusan Vlahovic to United if the Red Devils are unable to sign Sesko.

Field Of Gold to miss Juddmonte International at York following Goodwood setback
Field Of Gold will not be participating in York's Juddmonte International Stakes as he continues to recover from a setback experienced during a surprising defeat at Goodwood last week. The Irish 2,000 Guineas and Royal Ascot champion, trained by John and Thady Gosden, was found to be lame after his second defeat of the season in the Sussex Stakes. Despite showing promising signs of recovery, his team has decided against a step up to 10 furlongs on the Knavesmire. The son of Kingman is scheduled for X-rays on Wednesday, which should provide a clearer prognosis. Barry Mahon, Juddmonte's European racing manager, commented: "The horse is doing well and was back sound, which is good. "He's got a little bit of swelling in his fetlock but John and Thady are much happier with him so the plan is to do the X-ray on Wednesday – they've just pushed it back a day, as the longer you can leave it, the clearer the picture is. "That will give us some more insight and if the X-ray is clear, we can hopefully start back into some light exercise towards the end of the week or early next week. "York though is definitely not going to happen at this stage." After dazzling victories in the Classic honours in Ireland and the St James's Palace Stakes at the Royal meeting, there has been much speculation about whether Field Of Gold will attempt to replicate these triumphs over a longer distance or continue to shine as the standout performer of the year at eight furlongs. The Juddmonte star is entered in both the Prix du Moulin (ParisLongchamp, September 7) and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Ascot, October 18) at a mile later in the season, while he could yet try his luck over a longer distance in Leopardstown's Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes on September 13. However, the colt's name was conspicuously absent from the entries for the Qipco Champion Stakes over further on the same afternoon as his engagement in the QEII, with race planning currently taking a backseat until one of the season's top performers returns to full fitness. Mahon added: "It was the plan pre-Goodwood to stick at a mile for the time being and obviously there has been no chat about potential races since Goodwood, we're just going to have to let the dust settle and let him get back into exercise and then when he is fit make a plan from there. "You are getting into that time of year when there is not an abundance of opportunities and there is the Moulin, QEII or you go up to a mile and a quarter for the races at that distance. "So I wouldn't say there is a huge amount of options, but we'll just wait and see and let the horse tell us."

Richard Dunne: Why Ireland have 'genuine chance' of going to World Cup
Republic of Ireland legend Richard Dunne has weighed in on the nation's World Cup qualification hopes, giving a positive outlook on the future of Irish football. Ireland will get their qualification campaign underway on September 6 when they host Hungary at the Aviva Stadium. Heimir Halgrímsson's side have been drawn alongside the Hungarians in Group F, which also features Portugal and Armenia. Ireland are facing a difficult qualifying group. Pic: Sam Barnes/Sportsfile The journey to the 2026 World Cup will be tough for the Boys in Green but Dunne believes that this is Ireland's best chance at making it to football's biggest tournament in a number of years. While speaking with Irish online casino affiliate Dunne said: 'I was chatting to some friends yesterday and I was saying that I feel like this is the first tournament we're going into in a long time where we have a genuine chance of qualifying. 'I think we've got a big pool of players with a lot of strength and depth. We've got a system at the moment that works for us, where we're not going to be that exciting, we're not going to be playing free flowing football but we're going to be difficult to beat. 'This is something that we've lacked over previous campaigns and I'm hopeful that we're going to be in with a chance of getting a play-off place.' The former Manchester City defender added that the current outlook of the Irish side is a 'huge improvement' of what the side looked like over the past few years. Ireland have not qualified for a major tournament since the European Championships in 2016 and haven't made it to a World Cup since 2002. One of the gems of the current Irish squad is, of course, Evan Ferguson. The 20-year-old striker lit up the Premier League during his first full season at Brighton a couple of years ago but started to struggle last season. Evan Ferguson recently completed a move to Roma. Pic: Sam Barnes/Sportsfile A couple of injuries combined with getting stuck behind the likes of Joao Pedro and Danny Welbeck in the pecking order meant Ferguson was out of favour and didn't have the chance to regain his previous form. However, after completing a loan move to Roma this summer, the Meath native already looks like a sharper version of himself and has already bagged a few pre-season goals for the Italian side. Dunne believes that the best is yet to come for Ferguson and he will ultimately be Ireland's shining star for the upcoming campaign. He continued: 'I think you just have to look at what he did in the first couple of seasons of his career. 'He was doing really well in the Premier League and he looked the main man. People were talking about him being a 60, 70, 80 million pound player going to real big clubs. 'It's difficult when you're a young player and you break through and to get those opportunities, certainly as a centre-forward, so I think the last 18 months of his Premier League career probably isn't what you judge him on. 'You judge him on what he was before and that potential, so I think there's a real benefit in him stepping out of that Premier League spotlight and going forward and playing for another huge club. 'I think he'll start to find his feet and start to find out what type of player he is as well and we'll see the best of him over the next couple of seasons and beyond. 'I think he's a fantastic player and certainly the one who can lead the line for Ireland for years to come.' Nathan Collins could be the leader Ireland needs. Pic: Tyler Miller/Sportsfile Ireland captain Séamus Coleman is nearing his 37th birthday and only he really knows how much longer he will be on the pitch leading the side. When his retirement comes, he will be passing the international armband down to a younger member of the squad and Dunne believes it's the new Brentford captain who is the right fit to take on the leadership role. He said: 'It's difficult looking in from the outside but you'd normally go for one of the centre-backs or centre-midfielders and I think the fact that Nathan Collins has been given the permanent captaincy at Brentford means he fits the leading role to do it. 'He's been a standout player at times for Ireland and it's difficult because he's still a young centre-back, he's probably now coming into the prime of his career so it's probably the ideal time for him to become a captain, to become that leader and take on the extra responsibilities, because I can only see him over the next five years improving and becoming a better player. 'Hopefully, he's the one that could be the leader and step up for the next tournament.'
